2008 NCAA Football Thread

Yeah we all know USC has a good defense playing against inferior opponents in the Pac-10. I know they are a solid D, but I’d like to see their rankings if they were in the Big 12 or SEC.

Also that Ole Miss game was a stinker for Florida. Everyone has them. Kinda like when USC lost to Oregon State. They had trouble scoring against Oregon State. Didn’t Oregon just put a 60 spot on them?

That’s a rivalry game. You throw everything out the window in those.

Oregon barely got by Purdue in 2OT, if that tells you anything.

^^
$50!

If you lose, next time (first time) I’m in Vegas we’ll hit up the early bird special at Denny’s - my treat. :sunglasses:

$50?!?!?! I’ll do $20 today at lunch.

When Bama wins straight up, you’ll be sorry!

I hope they do win straight up, but I think it’s gonna be a close one…

OK Neil, just placed $20 on Bama to cover the spread…

Wahoo!

I’ll be watching and rooting for Bama!

A #1 team getting 10 points is just unheard of. You almost have to take that. With that being said I still say Florida covers. I guess we’ll see how it plays out tomorrow.

GODDAMIT NEIL!!! Corso picked 'Bama! That’s like the S.I. cover jinx!!! D’oh!!!

:frowning:

Those oddmakers know what they’re doing don’t they?

ugh the lovey-dovey sucking up to this Tim Tebow character by the announcers is vomit-inducing

kid looks like a biatch

pretty good game though, I guess.

so i went with mi madre to the official Broward County Gator Club watch party. Finally a close gators game. Any other time i’ve gone its been over and done with by the 2nd quarter. This was a game worth watching.

and watching it with a sports bar full of raging drunken gator fans…a game worth the gators winning.

My bad Sean.

Early bird dinner on me sometime.

Those damn oddsmakers are too smart!

Texas is good, and they probably will kill Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl, and probably have an argument about beating OU on a neutral field…

… but everyone knew that if Florida won they’d jump UT.

Actually this almost never happens in college football…it’s definitely the case in the pros, but not in football. If that was the case, than OSU would be the two-time champ. Heck, in that USC/Texas game a few years back, there wasn’t a lick of defense in that game.

Overall, Texas WAS screwed…no bones about it. It’s quite silly to have the same record as another team, beat that team, and somehow be ranked lower. But, whatever…this stuff means nothing.

Good game by Bama…I actually expected Bama to cover as well and they almost did. Oh well. And someone said it right…the way Danielson was drooling over Tebow was shameful. They even gave him credit for things he had NOTHING to do with. “He’s slapping hands with his defense!! He’s the greatest leader ever!!” Even worse was them making a big tackle on a kickoff and Danielson creditted it to Tebow firing them up when Tebow wasn’t even on the field. Good Lord. Thankfully it looks like a QB that can actually throw the ball will win the Heisman this year…thank goodness.

Overall, the bowl games look kind of crappy this year. I mean, is it that hard to pair 3 vs 4 and 5 vs 6 and all that? We could have had USC/Texas but instead get USC likely killing Penn State and Texas demolishing OSU. Texas Tech/Ole Miss looks like a joke and Utah will MAYBE score 10 points on Bama if they’re lucky. At least TCU/Boise will be fun but why in the Poinsettia Bowl…way to show those teams what you really think of them. Just looks like a lot of mismatches. And my Spartans get Georgia in the Capital One Bowl. It’s nice that we get a New Year’s bowl but I think we’re gonna get killed. If we couldn’t hang with OSU and Penn State, we’re not gonna start against Georgia.

Of course the worst is that most of these teams will go 30-40 days without playing a game which throws all of these games out of wack anyway. That’s easily the stupidest part of the bowl season.

Stevo

That’s because both offenses were so potent.

Texas was #5 in the nation that year in points against per game. USC was #27.

And the past 2 years that OSU went to the title game, they were #2 and #1, respectfully, in points against per game. They didn’t win, but they dominated the Big 10 with their D.

Go Gheytors!
