3D?

So… what does everyone think about the whole return of the 3D fad? Personally, I think it will be short lived the way it was in the 60’s and again in the 80’s. 3D seems to pop back up every twenty years or so. But, I just don’t really see the draw. I mean, it’s cool for a couple minutes… but after a while it just becomes sensory overload and starts to give me a headache. And it gives filmmakers even more excuse not to worry about things like plot or character development.

I guess I sort of understand for movies like Avatar and Alice in Wonderland (Tim Burton never cared about story or plot anyways), but for concerts? That’s just lame. And now they are hocking $9000 3D television sets? Really? How much more detail do we really need to see? Are Jimmy Kimmel’s nosehairs that sexy?

I haven’t even made the jump to hi-def. This just seems like total overkill.

I think its totally fucking awesome… hi def is fucking awesome too… your missing out if you don’t have hi def in your life… kangfirmed

^Haha, well there ya go. My parents have hi-def at there place. And we’ve got in in the office. Our company always shoots in hi-def, because you have to nowadays… but I never saw the reason for it. It doesn’t look that much better than good quality standard def. And there are some things that just shouldn’t be seen in too much detail anyways…

Hi-Def blows out regular def 10 times to one… If you like seeing detail, there is no comparison… NONE…

Yeah, I guess I just don’t care about it.

But what about 3D? You guys gonna be dropping $9k for that TV?

No my new 46" Samsung will hold me fine for some time I am sure…

I did like Avatar in 3D, they have smoothed it out a bit nowadays too.

Nothing beats watching a football game on HD, or Hockey actually!

There is most definately a difference between HD and non-HD. Waaaay better!

As for 3D, well, I guess I’m for it. The few movies that I’ve seen in 3D (Polar Express and My Bloody Valentine), I thought it was pretty cool.
I haven’t seen Avatar, but I heard it was wicked in 3D, and Alice in Wonderland, hopefully, will be bad-ass in 3D.
With concerts, I don’t see what all the hub-bub is. I mean, HD, absolutely. But 3D, seems a bit like a gimmock to me. But when the 8 movie comes out, I’ll be there to see it, glasses in hand.

Would I shell out $9,000 for the 3D tv, hell no.

But, just like all the flat-screens from a few years ago, the first ones out were pretty damn expensive and most thought it a pipe-dream to have one.
Fasst forward to now, and there is at least one in every household in America.

I may just wait this one out a few years and then revisit it when the prices come down substantialy.
Not a big deal to me.

Porn will be interesting.

Not mine.

True. :shifty:

Whoa, LMAO never thought about that aspect, ha!!! :open_mouth:

Every day Glenn.

Yeah man, we’ll spin rotary telephones & records and watch 2-D programming on old-style 3-D shaped monitors. I’ll bring the Atari 2600. Um, as soon as I can leave for England.

I think 8 will be cool in 3d. HD is the only way to go. Blu ray-movies look sick and you need HD if you watch sports.

Never been a fan. I remember when they made a Friday the 13th in 3d then a Jaws sequel. Those sucked!

nor mine.

My excuse is I don’t want to wear my glasses to watch TV. . .so everything is blurry. . .so why pay for a hi def TV if that will be blurry too.

(bad excuse, I’m probably just cheap and don’t watch enough of anything to make it worth getting).

I have no HD as well.

Only 3D things I have seen is the live action movie type deals down at Disney. Like, Terminator, Honey I Shrunk the Audience, Shrek, etc. Those were fun.

I’m not too thrilled about a movie in 3D, not sure why… I am sure I would enjoy it.

I am hearing terrible things about Alice in Wonderland, but I still would like to see it. No interest in seeing Avatar.

I’m not much of a movie / TV guy… I rarely watch either anymore… but I can see how 3D could be cool. But I think Dooj is right… it’s the kind of thing that will get milked too much just for the fad.

I don’t even have a flatscreen TV yet - I keep meaning to remedy that but it’s just not a big priority. Outside of some Olympic events, I haven’t turned on my TV in over a month. So no… no $9000 3-D television in my house either.

2 years ago I was reading up on the latest 3D research. I think Toshiba had some $50,000 prototypes that were amazing. It projected light off 14 different planes of a pixel to replicate the original image from different viewing points. I heard the price was going to be cut in half in Japan and a toned down more affordable model was going to jump into the pack for the U.S. market. I want one of the original versions personall. Maybe it had a 1,000,000 contrast ratio. I’ve heard of people throwing up while watching them.

Everything will be in 3D soon and I’m all for it. It’s like when the switch from black and white to color was made. Sure, there are still some good black and white movies, but come on, how do you not prefer color overall? How do you not prefer 3D overall? It’s a step forward. I wonder what the step forward from HiDef 3D will be though. Anyway I wasn’t sold on the whole 3D thing until seeing Avatar, and now…I’m sold. I’m fucking sold. I don’t care about gimmicky shit like a shark jumping out at you or something, but now movies can have vivid depth. That changes everything, absolutely everything…and I could really carealess about movies and tv overall, but I can’t wait to see how this changes video games. Shit man…Super Mario Brothers 3D…how I envy the kids that get to grow up with that.

As far as the hardware goes…if you buy a 3D TV at $9000 or more than you are, plain and simple, a fucktard, or filthy rich. Same as if you were one of the first people to buy a color television. I mean think about it…why? Just wait until 3D becomes the standard, then you’ll be paying a standard price for a 3D tv…ie. no more than you pay for a regular LCD or Plasma TV now.

I can see not being excited for technological progression, but I don’t get why anyone would be opposed it.

I believe the Avatar video game is 3D. So shell out some bucks for a shitty game, and nothing else! Muahahahaha!!
