that Moma Dance is NOT tight.
Page Clav solos make my pants tight.
um, okay, sowwy.
The LW version of “Tweezer” has some quite good clav work, which I think is the only known version of “Tweezer” to contain clavinet playing during the intro/composed parts…
looks around
Oh, sorry.
clears throat
4/15/04 is…cool.
on the way back from vegas i thought something terrible was going to happen. no joke. i really didn’t think they could continue on with shows like that. seriously, if they consistenly played shows like 4/15, who would see them?
^ Yeah but if they played consistently like they played at any show who would see them? What makes Phish great is not knowing what to expect from show to show. I shouldn’t speak my mind as I haven’t heard 4/15, but I have heard 4/17 and I don’t think that it is that bad. I’d rather be at that show then almost any show by any band ever. (other than Phish…there are many phish shows I would have rather been at)…
phish made a name for themselves by being a “jam” band.
the majority of bands out there dont jam, and people are always filling seats.
i love Radiohead, and have followed them through Japan, Europe and the US even though they very rarely dig deep in their song bag.i see them because i get a major thrill of seeing them perform, and feel like i am actually seeing “rockstars” and not just another phish show.if phish were like every other rock act out there, people would still go see them.
that was once true, regarding setlists and antics, but it shouldnt be up in the air if phish was gonna bring their chops on any particular night.
if you went to see the Stones or U2, you expect them to play a solid show.what if the Edge was fucking up your favorite guitar solo night after night?you’d prolly be pissed.i think as time went on, we were forced to accept the sloppiness.
i skipped a ton of PH shows because i “didnt have to accept it”.
personally, i think the 'o4 vegas shows are in the bottom 10 shows that they ever played.
not trying to single you out, goldenroad, just venting?
a
the Edge has never made a mistake.
oh, what? that one time? nope, you’re wrong. your ears made the mistake.
uhhh…
it was an example.
and dont kid yourself, either.
a
Heh it’s cool.
^^it was sarcasm?
that was my big problem with the live Phish i got to see, which was all PH, it was the chops
i know it’s tuff to be spot on in the compositions
it is just tuff to take b/c back in the earlier years of phish, the compositions were almost always spot on, as years went by, less touring occurred, more songs were added to the repertoire, so they didn’t play all the songs as often, and the chops seemed IMO to decline with time, the jams got better and all, but the chops, the freakin chops, got left behind. since trey was normally the most audible of the group, when his chops were off it really shows, everybody has off nights, and off songs.
Once Phish made it, I think there drive to be spot on became less and less, then as we know the scene exploded and all kinds of negatives got added to the equation and the result was other areas of the equation didn’t receive enough attention
variables can be a bitch, and the more you add, the harder it is to control
but hey, i still friggin love my Phish
i haven’t found another band that makes me feel the same way i do when i listen to Phish
