4/3/98

04-03-98 Nassau Coliseum - Uniondale (Long Island), NY

1: Mike’s Song > The Old Home Place > Weekapaug Groove*, Train Song, Billy Breathes, Beauty of My Dreams, Dogs Stole Things > Reba**, My Soul

2: Roses are Free -> Nassua Jam -> Piper*** > Loving Cup^ > Run Like an Antelope^^

E: Carini+ > Halley’s Comet > Tweezer Reprise

Filler: 4/2/98 Soundcheck (Funky Bitch > Nassau Soundcheck Jam > Birds Of A Feather)
4/4/98 Soundcheck (Providence Soundcheck Jam, Shafty, Roggae)

*With jam over band "ooo"ing - basically a “Crosseyed and Painless” jam without the actual vocals. **With whistling. ***Jammed out a bit, all drop out except Page who solos for about a minute and then takes it into “Loving Cup”. ^During which someone with a backpack jumps onstage, runs across stage, and is chased by Pete Carini. ^^Which starts out with Fishman saying “The game is don’t let Carini get you – it’s okay to jump onstage as long as Carini doesn’t get you – don’t attack the drummer” and includes a chant throughout of “Carini’s gonna get ya”; during which the lights go out and a glowstick war ensues. +Pete Carini is brought on stage.

Pee break during Beauty and Dog’s. Other than that it is a tight show. One of the best Antelope’s ever!

I love this show so much… Killer Reba, killer Lovin Cup, killer Antelope. This is one of my very favorite shows.

Had a ticket to this show. I was pulling out of a parking garage in Syracuse to pick up my friends and head to LI. Got cut off and cut the wheel one way, misjudged a turn because of that and sideswiped a big yellow pole which shattered the back window. I told my friends to go without me, stupid stupid stupid.

This show is damned good. Better than 4/2, I’d say. The ‘Weekapaug Groove’ is one of those “keeps goin’ and goin’” ones, though I disagree with the Crosseyed and Painless jamming. They did not tease the melody even remotely, it was just a jam that sounds Crosseyed-like. Also, my first versions of ‘Billy Breathes’ and ‘My Soul’!
I think that there should be a ‘jam’ after ‘Piper.’ But otherwise, flawless second set. Encore is great.
The filler is really cool, in case anyone’s been ignoring it. The first is interesting but not remarkable, while the second soundcheck has a great, groovy jam that I listened to twice while driving around today. ‘Shafty’ is a fully jammed version, and the ‘Roggae’ is an odd half finished one with Fishman leading the band in shouting ‘ROGGAE!’ rather than the traditional ending/repeated chorus of “if live were easy.”

the “roses > piper” is incredible no need for a ‘nassau jam’ asterisk er whatever…straight jamming from the roses to the piper…easily the best roses ever played…at least on DVD…

oh yeah…

DVD’s coming soon…

a trade tree is on the way…

p.s… the antelope with the “carini’s gonna get you” shtick is HOTTT (three t’s…thats right…)

THREE T’S!!! that is intense i can’t wait.

The jam out of “Roses” from this show is definitely tight…I’ve been wanting to hear it and I finally did Friday night and was NOT disappointed. Great all-around show!!! Set II rocks. It will be in my CD player for weeks to come…

For me, this is my favorite show out of the run for sure. Both sets are awesome!! I’ll get my hands on that DVD soon enough. It’s on theeee way sooon.
