Also wanted to mention how much I like the song selection in this first set. It looked like it was going to be a bit of a sleeper, IMO, but definitely proving not to be. Pagerson owned that Rift. Owned it.

I’ve usually understood and agreed with Mr. Miner’s blog, and I’m certainly a sucker for No Spoilers, although there was one thing he did (I think pre-reunion) that kind of bugged me: he made a compilation of jams with the songs attached to them removed. That kind of seems to emphasize the disregard he has for the songs themselves; I guess it’s all fine to love the jams (I love jams too!) but one of the things that makes Phish special to me is how good the SONGS are. They can make a totally jamless song on a studio album, and it’s still perfect; in fact, as if I hadn’t said this a million times, it was the short studio songs that got me into Phish. Looking at that setlist, I just can’t write this show off as a weak one. I don’t think Phish would, either; remember Hampton, with the jams mostly cut off and the performances focusing more heavily around the songs themselves?
Anyone slowed it down and notice that they seemed to have a slightly different arrangement for that Mcgupp? Page took the lead at the end with a slow build up. This could get real nice when they finally work it out proper.

Yeah, clearly Mr. Miner is suffering from some sleep deprivation and/or pharmaceutical side effects. How can you not talk about some of the more important bust outs of not only this show but of the entire tour?
That being said, watching the broadcast the other night, I thought this show was going to be TITS (pardon the expression, ladies of the OKP) once the sndbds hit. And certainly the set list is one of the most interesting of the 3.0 era thus far. But once I downloaded and listened, I gotta say it wasn’t as impressive as what I thought it might be.
Don’t get me wrong: I still think it’s a good show with lots of great highlights (Rift, Halley’s Jam, Frankie, MCGRUPP!!!) but some of the playing this night was certainly sloppy, as evidenced in Slave and a few other tunes. I get that they are mortal and are gonna flub things from time to time, I’m not expecting perfect renditions night in and night out. But every now and again, I feel they play a song or a series of songs where they don’t listen to each other as closely as in others, and it’s hard to hide that in the sndbds. So while this show had a fantastic setlist and great energy - or at least a different energy than several other shows Phish has played recently - in the end I’d give this show a B- for the sloppy playing/communication.
I’m now gonna pull out the umbrella to duck outta the criticism and rain that is expected tomorrow in Deer Creek. I’m feeling if it’s a stormy night, a Divided Sky is in order! CAN’T WAIT!!!
Agreed. He also said that the Slave was a highlight of the show which reminded him of '93-'94.

Yeah, the end was REALLY weird, huh? I wonder if Trey had to take a leak really bad or something. It’s like he started ending the song long before everybody else was ready for it to end. When he first cued it and nobody went with him, I figured he’d keep jamming. NOPE! Just plowed right along with the ending, even though nobody else was playing it. It was almost like hearing two different recordings at the same time. Super weird.
Hope he made it to the bathroom in time…
i like Minor. he’s def a “real phan”, as in, he LOVES phish. i don’t think anyone can dispute that. that being said, yeah sometimes i don’t quite get where he’s coming from in regards to his ‘best ever’s’ and his nonchalante attitude toward meaningful bustouts. but whatever, to each their own. all i know is reading his posts makes me feel better than reading PT. of course, reading Mein Kamf makes me feel better than reading PT too.

Tell you what… The KDF opener then Ocelot, is a PUMPIN way to start the show. I absolutely LOVE the new Phish material. This show is SECK!
i just listened to the entire show then read miner’s review. i loved the show, even if slave did end rather weirdly. i guess that goes to show that it’s different strokes for different folks.
I don’t understand why people are getting so angry and up in arms with what Mr. Miner is doing. He’s just someone who started a blog on the internet about one of his favorite bands. He’s not a member of the band or affiliated with them at all, just a regular Joe blogging on the internet.
Ya people gotta get off his ass already. He’s not a super-human know-all of every Phish fact. It’s his own opinions. You don’t like it, don’t read about. But, please, stop bitching about it, EVERYWHERE. Thank you.

Im currently on Franky Sez. So far a good show. Slave was a little rough but other than that good so far.
and i have my own opinion and am entitled to post it as well. nothing was said about fact. he can know all he wants to about phish. i just don’t agree with him on his review of the show.
