If I Could did kind of just run out of gas there but it was still sweet to hear that song again.
I too was waiting for the ear-splitting crescendo at the end of hood and it kind of just went
into the “good about hood” part with out doing so. I agree the Mr. Minor part was a lil sloppy but just like someone above stated, the train has barely left the station, and this is only the beginning…I am both patient and excited about 3.0…
The Hood had some interesting qualities but the composed parts were massively flubbed to the point where it greatly influenced my feelings of the version.
I would argue it might have been the worst hood in terms of playing the structured parts it did have unrateable albeit brief improvised section.
Nowhere even remotely close to the best hood because Hood is intricate and the composed parts need to be nailed.
The Mike’s Simple Wolf was cool but rushed and the transitions were not cohesive.
This is a function of not having logged show upon show in 5+ years.
My second set highlight was Kill Devil Falls.
Loving Cup was great as was Suzy.
I think Phish is certainly picking up steam and I’m hoping they peak at Shoreline ;D
i’m loving mikes various bass tones that he’s been pumpin out. super funked and spacey.
I don’t think people realize what we could be in store for here. After 5 years off and after listening to hampton, I was a little skeptical going in to fenway. But after witnessing Fenway and last night, and I can’t believe I’m writing this, but this could be their best tour ever. Scoff if you like, and I’ve been seeing them since '92, but everything sounds so crisp and purposeful.
And with the debut of all these new songs, it tells me that it’s just the beginning. Kill Devil Falls may have been the best song last night. I agree with whoever wrote that the composed sections in reba, hood , and foam were nailed especially reba. mike’s>Simple was amazing as was Timber Ho and Cities. Loving Cup absolutely rocked and Suzy was a ton of fun. The crowd was a little subdued last night even in the 7th row but I expect big things from the crowd in mansfield this weekend
Ive made it as far as stealing time from the faulty plan… kinda repetitive but man trey has a pretty mean tone on this one.
If you would have seen the look on Trey’s face during the Hood, you would dig this version 100x more.
And why are none of you mentioning the POSSUM!?!?!?!?!? Go listen to it NOW!
^^sounds like someone popped their cherry
Thanks to the iPhone, I almost could.
Man I’m only on timber but so far this is looking like my favorite show of 3.0. Awesome Jim, Nice Foam, and Stealing Time is definately cool too. Can’t wait for that Groove.
I thought it was a pretty solid show, save for som huge blunders.
Farmhouse and if I could were butchered to all hell by Trey IMO.
On to the Hood. What are you people, on dope? Sure, the middle was out there and quite beautiful. Mike ruined the thank you mr miner section with his muddy effects, and Trey ruined the end (was his monitor broken? He was like a half key off the whole time). Far from the best ever.
Sorry for the rant. I still had a great time, loved the new songs (esp) kill devil falls), and that mikes-simple might be one of the best I’ve heard.
I’d give the show a B+, solid, but not great.
;D
I dont know what you were hearing man, but at no point last night would I call Mike ‘muddy.’ he was loud, funky, and dropping bombs. I was impressed by how deep and loud he could be without muddying up the whole mix.
I thought Mike’s-> Simple was good but my comparison point is 12/6/96 Mike’s-> Simple which is off the charts and perhaps not the best comparison.
Kill Devl Falls seemed to be the best work to me.
I liked Kill Devil Falls probably better than any other new song. ^^ and yeah i agree. I know what ‘muddy’ effect you are talking about but i thought it was Trey that screwed that part up. I thought Mike was on point w the laser beams during the Mr Minor part.
great show last night. the sound at jones beach is great. I really like that venue - except they need to serve beer and have better food. But man, what a cool place.
First of all - it’s been awhile since I experienced that old Phish magic and it happened again last night. They came out for he encore, I looked at my friend and said, “if they play Suzy Greenberg, I’m going in the water.” Well - boom! Suzy it is. 29 shows-first Suzy for me. Wow.
Other highlights for me - Reba, Possum, If I Could, Cities, The whole 2nd set. Great show. Pick it up.
You got that right Hank…
That first part to Mr. Minor is killing Trey, he needs to really take a look at that…And I agree, Trey’s got to snap at the end of the song…
Keep those Road stories coming and see you at Alpine!!!
OK I listened to the board a bit and Foam was shaky. Timber was off and shaky at the beginning then smoothed out and sounded normal again. Reba composed parts were shaky, jam was beautiful, whistling was classic
That new song Stealing Time From The Faulty Plan is SOLID. I really like this one
that’s it for now
I’m listening to the Simple last night, Trey’s flub during it was funny; Mike gave him a dirty look when Trey sang skyscrapers where be-bop should be. anyone else see that? it’s an obvious flub on the recording
I heard it was the other way around from a guy who was on the rail.
