Yes! Very happy listening to this show. Haven’t finished the entire show yet, but WOW. ;D
I love the enthusiasm Curtain, but lets be realistic…The band is progressing at a very high speed but lets not jump ahead of ourselves…
this was my first show and one of the most incredible experiences of my 19 year life… woo… sand was fantastic! other highlights for me were wolfman’s, first tube, sugarshack, tweezer and antelope. i cant wait till burgettstown!
also… ive never been a huge fan of limb by limb but for some reason, seeing and hearing it live made me groove like a maniac.
Just listening to this now. Great show so far, mattshaw couldnt have done better. Ready for DC>Alpine, Toyota!
Correction. Yes he could have. Welcome tbizzz, welcome.
Absolutely! There will be better shows on the first leg of this tour, you can bet the farm on that. Things are just now starting to phlow…
^yeah i’ve got The Phear.
thank you so much, trey, for reminding me how much i love the wedge
there’s mold on the tube.
^just dip your feet into that sand
Listened to this on the way to Asheville today. I will go out on a limb here and say that was the best Sand I’ve ever heard. They have done nothing but get better every night.
^^ woah…
I love it… I’ve heard so many people talk so much shit about Sand for so long. I’m not pointing fingers at anyone, just saying…
Also, isn’t it funny how after last night’s show there was discussion about how the shows are shorter this tour, and then the very next night they play this monster show with a four song encore?
Thank you, Phish. I love you more than ever.

i have never been a big sand fan, but I really enjoyed the sand from this show
Listening to set II here at work, and it’s no stretch to say that this is EASILY the best show of the tour. Not only is the setlist teh titties, but they are so on in their playing it sounds amazing. I can only imagine what the energy in that place was like.
Listening to Joy right now, and I gotta say, I absolutely LOVE this song. May be considered a piss break by some as the tour goes on, but this is one that I really want to see.
Anyway, they just keep getting better and better with each show.
God, I love this band!
I agree that Sand has never been a song that I got super-excited about, but it worked perfectly as the second set opener at this show and then proceeded to be kickass.
I felt the overall vibe at this show to be very chill which somewhat surprised me due to locale and the energy beforehand being really high. That’s just how it looked from my perspective out on the lawn though.
Sand can and has been a killer of a song, always dependent on how the band responds to it. This is the second Sand that I’ve seen that has been great. First one was

1: Funky Bitch -> Wilson, Limb by Limb, Drowned -> Rock and Roll (0:55)
2: Birds of a Feather -> Catapult -> Heavy Things, Sand, The Meatstick* -> Cities**, Walk Away -> Run Like an Antelope#, Frankenstein, Wading in the Velvet Sea##
E: Character Zero
This PNC show was actually kind of lackluster until that Sand just blew it to pieces. The band went nuts right after it, loosened up and turned this show around completely.
Sunday in Camden there was something kind of odd about the placement of that Sand as well. There are certain songs that have what a friend and I call the Tony Markalis baseline. Think Heavy Things, First Tube, and Sand (even though Tony really only had influence in the First Tube). It’s just that constant, unchanging and rather simple baseline and rhythm.
The First Tube set closer Sunday night was kind of an odd placement because one rarely thinks of this song as being big enough to close a set. But Gordon changed this up on Sunday. I don’t believe they really intended to end the set with this song. It just happened that Mike broke away from the Tony Markalis approach halfway through and the whole thing opened up. Page got more creative and it offered Trey some expanded opportunities. It was a great version and a great way to end the set.
I think they discussed what happened during the break and brought on Sand to open the second set to try the same thing with it. Guess what? Worked like a charm. Played the composed part, worked into that static bassline groove, and then went funky with it and moved the rhythms around the place like crazy.
From the Limb right through the Sand, that was some of the most intense innovative playing that I’ve heard from Phish since the 2003 Tweezer at Nassau. They were just so playing with one another so tightly. NO BAND ALIVE CAN PLAY LIKE PHISH WHEN THEY ARE CONNECTED TO EACH OTHER.
Sorry, didn’t mean to shout, but damn, did I really love that show the other night.
