So as some of you know my dad has been ill. He was diagnosed with ChondoSarcoma, a rare form of bone/cartilage cancer a couple months ago, had an operation and has been going through physical therapy and preparing for Chemo/radiation next month. However about a week ago during a check up they found that the cancer had spread and decided to start chemo right away. So he had been staying at the Moffit Cancer Center over in Tampa.
Tuesday night I came home from class and got a call from my brother. He said that our step-brother had called him encouraging us to go over to Tampa for a visit this week to boost our dad’s morale. I had already planned on it anyway so I just moved my plans forward and decided to go first thing in the morning. About an hour or so later my brother calls again saying that our step-brother called again with an update saying that everybody has been instructed to make it there ASAP.
It was close to midnight. We dropped what we were doing and headed out across Alligator Alley and up the west coast to Tampa. We made it there around 4AM and got to see my dad’s face light up when we walked in the room. We stayed with him all night, all morning and all afternoon and then he was transferred to a Hospice facility over on the east coast near his home in Titusville. He was asleep when we got there but we sat with him. And he never woke up.
It all went downhill so fast but most everybody made it in time. Everybody was aware, including him, and we’re all standing by each other. I came home last night and sat with my mom and uncle and cousin and brother. I’m heading back up to Titusville today for the weekend and wake tomorrow. This has been one of the heaviest experiences of my life and I wanted to share it with you all.
Thanks for your love and suppport.
