A change of heart

So a couple of days ago, I was having a really chill, somewhat hungover, very stoned morning at home with the dog… The weather was shitty and I didn’t feel in the mood for anything. I put on Round Room and just laid on the sofa watching the wind blow and listened to it all the way through. As a result, I realized that I really like Friday. I’m sure I’ll take some shit for this, as people on this board tend to go out of thier way to hate on that song. I will say that I don’t think it’s a very good live song, but that’s ok. I think it fits nicely into the flow of the album, and captures emotions that most Phish songs don’t even approach.

I guess while I’m at it, I might as well stick up for Anything But Me. I really like that song too.

I hope all the rotten tomatoes were used up on ghost420…

I dig the whole album. I’ve never disliked a Phish song (even The Connection…). There are some I don’t like as much as others (like ANYTHING BUT ME), but I still think the songs are good.

ROUND ROOM is brilliant. It flows very well…

I dig Round Room. Friday may be a bit of a corny song, but I think its pretty enough to be considered good. Pebbles and Marbles is probably my favorite post-hiatus song, Seven Below isn’t all that bad either.

I remember when RR came out, people kept telling me it was the best album that Phish had ever made, of course, these were the same people who thought that Farmhouse was the best before it, so I guess that says something too. Still though, a pretty solid album, just like every Phish album, its got its ups and downs.

I like Round Room, too…

It’s a step above Hoist and a step below Farmhouse in my book. “Friday” isn’t that bad.

Why isn’t it Friday today? Simple yet poignant…

Friday is a great song…one of my favorites on the album. It took me a while to realize it, but it is very beautiful, the progression at the end has a bittersweet quality to it that will get you in that “happy depressed” mood. Gotta love it.

Round Room will always be my favorite Phish studio album. It’s so easy for me to get burnt out on/tired of Billy Breathes, but not Round Room.

I am listening to Round Room in its entirety at work this morning…I forgot how much I liked it. “Seven Below,” “All of These Dreams” and “WOTC” are just beautiful. It’s slowly gaining on Farmhouse

When I listen to/think about this album, I get sad b/c I know that Phish was trying in vain to get the magic back together. They did, but only to some extent. This album is a prime example of it. There were darker days ahead, and we know that now, but they didn’t know it then… :’(

I like how round room has rough edges about it. I think Phish did this album in anywhere from 4 to 7 days, and there’s captivating raw energy there. You can say what you want to about Phish’s extracuriclar activities. Round Room is poignant album with very unique endeavors, and some damn good songs. I guess its tough for some people to keep an open mind, with all of Phish’s baggage. The title track and Waves knock my socks off. The album has six or seven spectacular songs, with the middle containing the least fulfilling material.

I love Round Room! So much depth and soul and freshness to it.

you all talk about round room and ghost and billy breathes as being your favourites and stuff like sum1 said sumthing about roundroom being a step above hoist and a step under hoist and stuff about like being the best studio album…all i have to say is…shitt…its a sick album yes but…junta…a picture of nectar…those are the albums that give me those unexplainable feelings that make phish what they are to us phans

*step under farmhouse sorry bout that

I like the song Friday but it does have a couple of real clinkers in the lyrics:

Your lack of trust is hardly just

Please follow me, into the sea

I don’t know, they just seem like obvious rhymes, something Tom usually avoids. Good song though. I wish they’d played it a fraction quicker in the studio. I can see why people hated this song live, it usually comes across as a total setlist buzzkill. Yes, Coventry, Day 1, set III closer, I’m looking right at you. I saw that show in a movie theatre and the groans and boos when they started this song nearly drowned it out.

I like the song Anything But Me but Trey’s voice is just so shakey on all the versions I’ve heard of it. His voice declined after the hiatus, so I think maybe Page should have sung this.
