yes SLAVER IS SO DAMN GOOD. but yes, all of them are. there really are no bad versions. IMO, it is so damn underrated.
I don’t much care for the Bozeman Tweezer. Some of it is just irritating and I wish they’d stop effing around–self consciously playful and experimental, in a bad way.
The great thing about ‘A Live One’ is that, when you really get into Phish, you realize that there ARE better versions of all the songs on it–it’s almost like an album full of teases.
Maybe So, And Maybe Not
zing.
classic.
The Hood on ALO is my favorite, the best I’ve heard so far.
their aint no time to stash the gumbo…
It’s pretty good.
Try the Lemonwheel version, or even HCA for versions that rival its tastiness. There are even some post-hiatus versions that go above and beyond the normal “Hood”-jamming.
Yeah I find myself loving all the post-hiatus Hood’s I’ve heard. Even the ones that don’t go type II.
I think gorgeous, well-played “Hoods” can be placed in the same category as “Reba,” “Slave to the Traffic Light,” and “The Curtain With” as Songs That Have the Potential to Make Me Cry
great cd awesome song selction for it what an awesome selection to open with the crowd noise before bouncin makes you feel like you were actually there but only gets better when it enters into the amazing stash gumbo is always a plus SLAVE=greatness as always and how can you ever top a quality harry hood to sum up a shitty summary this is an awesom live disc makeup
Oh why oh why didn’t I hear this album when it came out? I’d have gotten on the Phish bus before the hiatus, that’s for sure.
I love the way they spliced in the excerpt from Miles Davis A Tribute to Jack Johnson before the Wilson, like it was set break music. From the Companion, 2nd Ed.:
“The Squirming Coil is mostly 10/9/94 but the Page outro is from 10/23/94”.
I love the Slave from this disc. Trey has such amazing control of his bends and tone during those piercing high notes at the end of the buildup, it just kills me every time.
As for Hood, I’ll just copy this bit from the reviews section of Phish.net:
Yep, that’s it. When Fish starts pounding out that beat on his toms, and Page and Mike just hammer the D note, when Trey does those hyper-distorted bends that then go in to the full band riffing (from 12:55 until 13:27 on my CD’s counter) well, my head nearly explodes every time. Yes, indeed, I can feel good about this Hood.
I love fall 1994 and I’ve been trying to download as many shows from that tour as possible. Check out the 11/26/94 show that Slave was taken from for an amazing 37 minute Bowie.
no question best gumbo ever!!!..in my opinion
Question… I just came upon this realization after finishing my listen to 11/2/94 Set Two SBD…
How was this legal to grab off of eTree? Was it not legal I guess? I recognized the Tweezer while listening, but couldn’t figure out from there… And now it just dawned on me…
Maybe this is a dumb question… But any thoughts?
hmmm…it was a sbd? i dont know then…
It had the complete show as an AUD. Then the second set in a different torrent was SBD.
if its the whole set and not just the tweezer then i would think it to be legal…maybe im wrong…
someone musta leaked it somewhere along the line.
It’s funny you say this man as this is one of the few tunes i’ve shed a tear listening to.
ALO - my first Phish album, also my second fav behind New Years 95. The Hood probably is my all time favorite Phish performance ever. I was curious, the only Phish songs I had heard at that time were Chalkdust, Bouncing, and Wilson, and I saw that this album had all 3. I bought it and I couldn’t stop listening to it.
BUMP
Bump and grind.
