A Song I Heard the Ocean Sing

Discuss!

is it true this song was never played live…

god its one of my favs to

Yeah, they opened the summer tour with it in Brooklyn. Then played it once or twice more in the first leg of that tour.

edit: I forgot to mention that I really dig this song on the album, they just never really perfected it to be a live song.

three live versions: 6.17, 6.19, 8.10.04–great song

timmy… the 6.19.04 version is really good. if you’d like a copy send me a pm and we can work out a bnp.

Another song I think had limitless potential if they had stayed together.

I think it came across beautifully live, but I really don’t get the production on the album. You know what it reminds me of? That Dave Navarro solo album…there is a song on there that has the same kind of “runaway runaway runaway…” type thing throughout it…it sounds really similar. I’m not saying go and buy that Navarro album for this purpose (or any purpose for that matter), but if one of your friends has it, look for that song and confirm that for me. I think I bought it when it first came out, listened to it twice and gave it away, but I know there is a song that sounds exactly like ASIHTOS on it.

i’ve never been too hardcore on this song, but it’s fun to listen to here and there.

i think its a kick ass song. studio and live.

What is the story behind the song? Trey told it at some show in 04…

shit, id really like to know to… anyone… anyone…

anyone…?

Trey didn’t really explain the origin of ashitos at the 8.10.04 show. All he said is that it was written in memory of “Captain Kevin,” who is an actual seaboat captain, who was at the show that night. Moma Dance was written about him, as trey mentions after weekapaug.

Every time I hear this song, it gets better and better. I know that I talk about SPAC '04 a lot, but the 3.19 version is TITS. I haven’t heard the Brooklyn version but I was also at Greatwoods for it, and it didn’t have as much flair as 6.19 and it wasn’t really jammed out.

This song is great… kinda of Beatle flavored and that is a good thing.

Really?? Beatles?? It doesn’t sound anything like them to me. The song just envelopes me like a tidal wave.

No, I never said it sounds like a Beatles song, but it has the Revolver flavor in my opinion.

Nothing but good thoughts coming from me on this song…Me Gusto Mucho!

This is one of my bigest sorrows for Phish breaking up. No new versions of this song. Great tune.

yeah for sure, i would looove to hear this live. hopefully when they come back

It reminds me a little of Free.
