No wonder you are as great as you are, Ryan. What you did and what you are doing is so unbelievably difficult, but it demonstrates an internal strength, honesty, and courage that has been evident in most of the posts that you have ever shared with us here in OKPland.

I’m truly grateful that you took the time to share this with us, not just because many of us were concerned about you, but because the level of love and intimate emotion that this obviously means to you and your family is also bestowed to us in the OKP by the expression of it in this thread.

No one deserves such profound happiness more.

wow ryan, great story. glad to hear you and danielle are happy with how everything turned out.

I am adopted myself and haven’t thought too much about meeting my real parents…maybe someday though.

This made my day. Hell this might have made my week. This is the kind of stuff that they make up for television to make it riveting, but it is a true story for you, and that is incredible. I hope that you will continue to be who you are, because you truly kick ass from the sound of it. I hope to get to meet you at a Phish show sometime very soon!

ryan, awesome story. like ship said, this isnt something you normally hear outside of a movie/tv. glad everything worked out the way it did. you guys obviously have strong family values, and it sounds like the family you two chose have the same values. i hope everything continues to work out the way it has so far. let us know if anything else comes out of this. we need more things like this in the world.

What a beautiful post!

Is it really that easy to check up on children who are given up for adoption? I always imagined there were barriers or some sort to prevent that information from being so readily accessible. Always seems to be that way in the movies anyway.

As it goes, we had an ‘open’ adoption, meaning the adopting family is willing to let the birth family ask for information, updates and what not! This family had been through a similar adoption in the state of Minnesota prior to our adoption and this is one of the smaller reasons we choose them!

TV is TV, now adopting from outside of state lines can add for some extra issues, like the lawyer we had told me I had to sign some paperwork waiving my parental rights and I had to take out an ad in the local Brookline MA paper claiming this since Danielle and I were not amrried at the time, which I refused, and the adopting family told me they were fine with me not doing this!

It is really a magical deal… Thank you OKP for the great feedback, it really helps me!!! :thumbup:

You are such a beautiful, warm individual that has really blessed me over the past few years. You and Danielle are such great people, and I felt that the first time we met. This is such a heartwarming story, and what I really mean to say is that no one really deserves this more than you guys!

that’s great ryan! i just met my sister who was put up for adoption for the first time a couple of years ago and it was a powerful experience. i can’t imagine what it would be like with a kid. i hope everything continues to go well for you :slight_smile:

I’m adopted too and haven’t had a desire to meet my birth parents either. Adding more family into the mix just seem stressful :crazy: I always thought it would be cool to see what they look like though. My parents adopted 5 kids and when I was younger I wished I looked like my brothers and sisters. Having 2 Korean sisters meant I had to tell my life story all the time. Not really a bad thing but not something you want to explain a million and one times.

Adoption is only one way and how you want to pursue it will be different for everyone. I am glad as a birth Father, to hear from my child, the delight and heartfelt questions are welcomed! I think it makes her and I both stronger. Also, the look on my wifes face when they met, changed my world forever! There is nothing better then PURE JOY!

I am very proud and happy with were this stands and hope to continue building that relationship with her and her adoptive family as well, they’re good people!

I cannot wait to share more information with you all as we get it and continue this magical ride I am on. When it all comes down to it, there is nothing more inportant than family and friends, without some of each we would all be nothing.

Ryan, this is good stuff! You guys are a stunning family!

I’m all about adoption. We’re done with the parenting thing, but I much prefer the idea of caring for an existing human that has nobody to care for them over the idea of bringing yet another human into the world in an attempt to grant immortality to my genes. My genes don’t need to live forever.

I am blown away by this amazing story. When situations of unexpected pregnancy arise, it seems the option of adoption is often not considered or dismissed too quickly. I think it has got to be just about one of the bravest and things a person or couple could ever do. You two gave your daughter the best opportunity she could ever have gotten. Even if I don’t “know” you or your wife, I couldn’t be more proud of you both, not only for being so strong to follow through on something so difficult, but for having the courage to reconnect after so many years, not knowing how it would go AND for having the outstanding emotional capacity to recognize that you did the very best thing for everyone involved. I have had some fairly hard things happen in my life, but in the end having spent so much time with Anna last week anad having her accept us in such a loving way makes me feel whole again!!!

Thank you all for the kind words, I am hoping to share some more visits with you all.

I am a little nervous thought, because at some point the questions should get deeper and harder, but I will always be honest and upfront with her!!!
