This was a fantastic event.
Brian(Grabs) really knows how to put on a show.
I got there around 8:30 and the place was already rocking.
I got 2 free drink tickets. Yup, FREE BEER!
There was vegetarian punk food (whatever that means), which was like pastries, small finger foods and stuff, really good actually. They had people making T-shirts (for free as well!), they sewed patches on them and made them really nice. American Apparel shirts actually. Really good shirts.
DJ spinning records and everyone having a good time.
The M’s came on around 10:20.
They sound like the Strokes, Jet etc. But not really as good IMO.
They had some cool vocal harmonies going on but you couldn’t hear them. I’m not sure if it was the sound op. or just the heavy guitars, but it really was a problem for me. I like to hear lyrics and you couldn’t hear anything.
They just were not really original. There are alot of bands who do what they do right now and I think you have to do something to set you apart. If they could work on the vocal stuff that might help.
Catfish Haven was next and they were much more up my alley.
The front man George Hunter (I think that was his name) has a voice that sounds like it was rubbed in sandpaper and coated in Jack Daniels and cigarettes. Awsome voice and he has a great stage pressence. He commands attention, or at least his voice does. They had quite the set up, Acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, and 2 back-up singers. The back up singers really tied it all together for me. Behind George, their voices really filled up the room and balenced the scratchy sound his voice had. The band has a nice Blues/Rock/Soul sound that I liked. You can listen to some of their songs on Myspace. Check them out.
I want to thank you Brian, I had such a great time (Again!)
This was the second event of his that I’ve attended and he really does a good job of booking diverse bands and making you feel welcome. The Ohkeepa has a great producer in its midst.
Bill Graham who?

I’ll talk to you soon Grabs, have a great holidaze.
