American Idol, Tourettes... and Phish!

Many with Tourette’s find that when they concentrate, particularly on something creative, their tics stop. On “American Idol,” for instance, Pittman sang before a television audience of millions without a single twitch. Just losing yourself in music seems to help many others. My husband is a huge fan of the jam band Phish. At concerts, the line between dancing and twitching fades for him. The parents of a child with Tourette’s heard about Michael’s Phish “phan-dom” and reached out to him not long ago to say that their 8-year-old had gone to his first Phish show and loved it: For once, his movements didn’t make him stand out in a crowd.

I agree with you 100%. However, one of the things that I do love about our lil Phish community is that we just wouldn’t care if you have tourettes.

Dancing to music is the BEST! For me, dancing to Phish brings out some of my best moves! I love finding other great dancers at shows to dance with and feed off their vibes!! Totally enhances the experience to yet another level!

I honestly love every post in this thread.

The thought of the Phish community being notoriously bad dancers because is great to me because it makes our level of acceptance limitless. I enjoy experiencing and contributing to the dancing diversity and energy at shows and it makes me happy to know that it provides an outlet, and even relief, for some that goes further beyond the awesomeness of what it does for me or the average show-goer.
