I’m playing Batman: Arkham Asylum at the moment. It’s so much more than I expected it to be. I love the mix of detective work, stealth and I’M GOING TO BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF 10 OF YOU BECAUSE I’M BATMAN. I enjoy the nice little touches such as the unlockable character bios, and the art style feels very true to DC. POW!
^Yeah, I was a big fan of that one also. The fighting style rocks (though the battle arenas where you have to rack up points can be a major pain). The Scarecrow parts are quite crazy, especially the ones in the morgue. Plus I love Hamill returning to voice the Joker…he’s hilarious throughout. Can’t go wrong with the Joker.
You know what time it is?
MADDEN NFL 12! ![]()
Can’t wait to start playing. Shoot me a message if you wanna play.
Meh’dden. j/k I haven’t played a madden game since the N64 days. I’m sure they are probably better now, but football just isn’t my thing.
What is my thing? Bastion! All you xboxer’s, if you’re only ever going to buy one Xbox Live Arcade game, make it Bastion. That game just oozes charm and is an absolute blast to play from start to finish. It’s 1200 points, ($15 approx), but I would have gladly paid $60 for it. The animation and art style is great, the narrator is one of the coolest things ever in a game and the weapons are all really fun and varied. At least try out the demo.
Other than that I haven’t been playing many games. I bought Dragon Quest V for the DS, but I’m mostly going to be playing that on the trip to Denver. And a little Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit when I find the time. Maybe the greatest racing game ever.
^I feel the same way about Madden. In fact I love sports and I’m pretty “meh” about most sports games. I like playing them in multiplayer with a group of dudes but on my own? Eh…once I won the Super Bowl in Madden 04 with Harrington as QB, I figured I couldn’t do better than that.
And I’m definitely interested in Bastian…I’ve been reading about it for months and it’s getting cool reviews. I’ve heard the narrator is great especially when he seemlessly narrates you dying or something. Sadly it’s for XBox only right now so I’m desperately hoping that it comes out for PC soon enough.
And I’m finally onto some new stuff. I finished my pain-in-the-butt challenge run with God of War 3…I got goaded into it by a friend and I don’t think I’ll be doing another in quite a long time…it was basically a run where you died in one hit, couldn’t upgrade anything, couldn’t use magic or items, couldn’t parry attacks and could only use the blades. But the death in one hit part was the worst. One section took me three nights to beat…about 11 hours total for one part. Yeah, enough of that.
I also played Prototype’s Hard Mode which wasn’t as hard as I thought it’d be. My tactics for handling enemies on Normal (mostly using tanks and avoiding hand-to-hand fighting) worked well in Hard plus it ended up being easier as I used some attacks I didn’t use before.
I’m currently starting a game called Mini Ninjas which got virtually no hype or attention. Pretty generic plot as you just have to stop some evil Samarai Warlord. It’s a standard fighting game kind of like the fighting style in a Zelda game and there’s lots to find in each area. Nothing out of the ordinary but it’s not too bad.
Also got Bayonetta the other day…looks like it could be a fun fight. I’m debating Dante’s Inferno though I heard it can be repetitive.
Madden is awesome. I like it very much.
Hit me up if ya wanna play.
…and I REALLY like playing Red Dead Redemption…that is like the greatest game ever for me.
In the middle of “Medal of Honor” right now, and I gotta say, this might be better than COD. The campaign part of it is just awsome!
But I heard the online play is pretty weak, so that might cancel out my thought. But with the COD online play being pretty bad-ass, I don’t see the point in going with the MOH online play. Just stick with the campaign play.
Oh, and I’m kinda meh on Madden also. I much prefer NCAA football, but that might be because I like college football more than the NFL. Besides, I’m always a year behind with the sports games anyway. Like right now, I have a dynasty going on NCAA '10. So yeah, I rock! ![]()
^Heh…I’m the same way with sports games…I only need to get them once every three or four years just for the updated systems on each. Even then, it’s mostly multiplayer.
Play Jak and Daxter: Lost Frontier which was for the PSP but was ported to PS2. I’m a fan of the Jak series but not much has come out for the series lately (Naughty Dog is busy with Uncharted) so they had a different developer do the handheld. Still, not a bad game so far and it at least feels like a Jak game.
Any you guys play Borderlands? Is it a usual shooter game? Does it have more variety like a Bioshock or Metroid Prime? I’m wary about shooters since many get boring to me.
I just wanted to reply to a few things in this thread…
Gamecat - I’m with you man. Red Dead is an amazing game. I only hope that one day I’ll be able to find the time to play through the whole adventure again.
Clark - Medal of Honor was not my cup of tea at all. It did not have the amazing setpiece moments that the COD series is known for. I just found the whole experience to be pretty bland and generic and nothing about the story drew me in.
Steve-o…First of all, you said in your last post that you were thinking of Bayonetta…play that shit! It is the best action game of the sort that I’ve ever played. Way more crazy and over the top than any God of War, Devil May Cry, or Ninja Gaiden games. It is a game that I still find myself thinking about all the time even two years after first beating it.
Secondly, don’t get into Borderlands expecting a great shooter. I never found it to be. It’s a lootgrab game, best played with friends. It is a pretty shallow and boring single player experience. Sure, there are a ton of guns, that you get to roll around a barren wasteland with shooting similar enemy after similar enemy, but the whole reason you play the game is to collect new guns to use. The “story” is pretty bland, but like I say, it’s a game best played with friends. If you’ve got two or three people who you want to play with, then definitely pick it up, but as a solo venture I think it’s pretty disappointing.
If you want a decent and underrated FPS that you can probably pick up for $10-15 now, check out Singularity. Also, the Dead Space games are totally worth your time.
For me, I’m just trying to play less games until October when the flood of holiday releases start. My wallet is going to be hurting over the next few months…I’m pretty set on picking up all of the following:
Assassins Creed: Revelations
Uncharted 3
Elder Scrolls: Skyrim
Zelda: Skyward Sword
Gears of War 3
Batman: Arkham City
Super Mario Land 3D
ICO and SOTC HD
Rage
Gunstringer
And probably more I can’t think of. Anyway…lots of good games coming out. I’m pretty excited.
I got this from my brother for my birthday a few months ago so it’s on the waiting list. Gotta get through some older games first…
Actually I had already bought it since I had a coupon that was expiring and I needed to get something. Sounds good but, again, I need to get through some of these older games I bought and haven’t played yet. I buy too many games.
Ah, that makes sense. Reviews are sometimes hard to tell whether their reviewing the main game or multiplayer or both.
Assassins Creed: Revelations - I just finished AC2 recently and I liked it so I’m in on this. Gotta get Brotherhood eventually.
Uncharted 3 - Man, I really need to get into this series…Uncharted 1 is only like $20 now.
Elder Scrolls: Skyrim - I played Oblivion for maybe a couple days and hated it and returned it. Mostly it was the leveling system since it required you to change how you play too much to level up certain parts of your character. Weird leveling systems always drive me nuts. The ones in Grandia and FFX drove me nuts too so this seems common.
Gears of War 3 – Meh. X-Box not an option.
Batman: Arkham City – Definitely in on this one.
Zelda: Skyward Sword
Super Mario Land 3D – I’m just compiling a list of Wii and 3DS games I’ll get for when I eventually get these systems and both of these are likely on it. I’m still kind of down on Zelda but not enough where I won’t try the new game…I just hope they get a little more creative than just slashing enemies in different ways.
ICO and SOTC HD – I bought both of these recently for PS2. Ico’s not bad but it’s vastly overrated in the gaming community as some amazing storyline or something…I didn’t see it. SOTC was pretty sweet though.
Rage
Gunstringer – Meh.
I know I’m also pumped for Darksiders 2, Prototype 2 (both not until Spring), Bioshock Infinite, and the new Kingdom hearts for the 3DS. I’m sure I’ll be getting Final fantasy 13-2, and Saint’s Row the 3rd (though I need to get the 2nd game first) plus there’s the Last Guardian game by the guys who made Ico and SOTC but who knows when it’ll actually come out. And I KNOW I’m getting God of War Origins for PS3 which has the two PSP GOW games that I haven’t played. There’s a new Kirby one for the Wii also and I’m a sucker for those (I also just saw one for the DS. Hurray!). Also, there’s a new Sly Cooper game coming which was a secretly clever series that maybe not enough platforming fans tried out. Plus I just got Luigi’s Mansion for the Wii and I know a sequel is coming out for the 3DS, same for the Phoenix Wright vs Professor Layton game and a new Paper Mario RPG game which is an awesome series. And of course there’s Mass Effect 3 but that’s not an option until I get internet so I can play the 1st on PC. So yeah…there’s no way I’m going to be able to play these but I’ll get to them eventually.
^ Dude, don’t “meh” the Gunstringer. I just played the demo and it was really funny stuff. You have to fight Wavy Tube Man…which is just a wavy tube man. I also watched a preview of the game on Giantbomb.com and there is a Phish reference in the 2nd stage of the game. I’m really excited to actually play a real game with my Kinect. Child of Eden is fucking awesome too, but it’s barely even a game, more a psychedelic escape from reality. I think that’s out on PS3 right away too…you should definitely pick that one up.
And yeah, I’m with you on Oblivion…it was not my cup of tea, but have you seen Skyrim? It honestly seems like they took out everything that bugged me about Oblivion and may have just made the perfect fantasy game experience out of it.
Oh, I wasn’t bashing it. I was meh-ing it because I don’t have an XBox so it’s not an option. Plus I’m naturally wary about the motion games. They’re usually fun but really for only a short time before it gets tired (though that’s just my experience…I’m sure there’s some good ones out there).
I did read about Child of Eden and it’s a sweet concept for sure.
Eh…I still believe they’re doing some of the annoying leveling quirks that I didn’t like before. In the end Bethesda in general is not my cup of tea…I’ve never liked any of their games and I even tried Obilvion despite this. If I get any RPG it’ll be Dragon Age though I have Golden Sun 3 and Radiant Historia to go through too.
Also, I’m intrigued by that El Shaddai game which could be a good beat-em-up game and is getting some high marks. I also would like to get Insane Twisted Shadow Planet but again it’s XBLA only right now so I can only hope it gets the PC treatment down the road.
Gears of War 3!!!
What a game. That is all.
^ getting it this weekend. very excite.
Me, I’m finishing up Luigi’s Mansion which is not a bad game…lots of collectibles in that one.
Going to be getting into Red Dead Redemption next. Can’t wait!
Yeah…Luigi’s Mansion is pretty fun. Really short, but pretty damn fun. I’m excited for the new 3DS version they are working on.
I’m leaving for BC in two days to go visit my mom and sister, but that’s gonna be 10 days without my gaming consoles and shit, so can anyone recommend some good DS/3DS games for the trip? I’m playing Dragon Quest V, which could arguably take up all my gaming time, but I’d like something fun like a Mario or Kirby game or something more action oriented.
Yeah, I was surprised at how much I’m enjoying Luigi’s Mansion. I also like how you can get a “gold frame” if you suck up the portrait ghosts in one pull so I’m trying for that too. I believe if you earn enough cash, it improves your ending or something so I’m a money-grubbing fiend.
And DS games…
For action titles, there’s Super Princess Peach and Yoshi’s Island. If you liked the original Yoshi’s Island for the SNES, the DS one is almost as good a lot more challenging to get 100% on. I played New Super Mario Brothers and I didn’t like it…it’s not bad and it tries to be a tribute to the older games but it just seemed flat to me.
In terms of cutesey games, I liked Kirby Squeak Squad…it’s stupidly easy but lots of fun. Also, lesser known is The Legendary Starfy which looks like a Kirby clone and plays like it but is another fun and clever game with some surprising comedy thrown in.
Of course, if you want a little more in depth, there’s the Castlevania games. Plotwise, Dawn of Sorrow is a continuation of the GBA game before it but Portrait of Ruin and Order of Ecclesia are both great games with their own unique storyline where you don’t need to know much else about the series.
If you like Mega Man, Mega Man ZX and Mega Man ZX Advent are solid action entries that are basically like every other Mega Man game you’ve ever played. Don’t try Metroid Prime Hunters…it’s not that great and the controls makes your wrist and hand hurt like mad after long sessions.
Less action-oriented are the Phoenix Wright games which are fun as well and can be saved at any time so you can easily pick it up and play when you want (though they can be hard to find in stores). For puzzles, there’s Professor Layton which another “pick up and play” game that you can save anywhere but I found the puzzles wore on me after a while.
NHL is grand.
i just got madden 12 and i’ll be playing late tonight.
i know that i’m xbl friends with streetbum, will, and goldenroad. add me if you haven’t already: H3ttyBrahmigo
Well, since I have internet now I finally got into plugging my Playstation to it last night and created my PSN account…I was pleased to see that “Hotel_Security” was available with no numbers at th end (that’s my alternative username since El Bastarde gets blocked in certain places). I don’t know if I can be searched on the system or something but I doubt you’ll see me on much…I’d rather only have it connected when I need to.I’m not sure how these PSN cards work so I still entered my credit card info for buying stuff…if the Anonymous hackers want to use my crappy low-balance credit card then go ahead (but I don’t think they’re in the business of stealing that stuff…just annoying Sony).
So I got a few downloadable things from the store. I first went on because I’m playing Red Dead Redemption and wanted a few of the extra quests that they have online…There were a few free downloads for RDR so I just grabbed all of those. Then I got the Undead Nightmare pack and I also got the Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty downloadable game since I know I’ll be playing that eventually (I’ve been holding off on playing the latest game so I could play that first). Undead took a few hours to download but the R&C game took a while…it took about three hours to get to 50% and then I just went to bed with it still going.
I also just looked at the stuff available and checked prices and such. Also nice was I saw the Daxter game for PSP on there! And another PSP game I was interested in named Gurumin was on there too. Yet another reason to not get a PSP. That leaves the PSP games I want down to 1 with the Kingdom Hearts game. Not looking good for the PSP.
Other games I’m interested in on there: Mega Man 9 & 10, the Scott Pilgrim game, Explodemon, Stacking, Outland and maybe the Sam & Max game. I was apparently unaware that Splosion Man and Super Meat Boy were XBox only cuz I still checked for them on PSN…silly me.
Also in other good news, that Bastian game will be out for PC so I’ll be grabbing it that way. Awesome.
By the way, RDR is pretty sweet. I love the huge world to explore so I find myself getting lost for hours in between missions. I’ve done some missions but a lot of messing around with getting trophies or doing the Challenge missions by hunting animals and such.
