Ug, I always get whomped in the UFC games since the ground controls just make no sense to me. I’m twisting and pulling and all my guy does is wiggle around on the ground. Of course, I’ve only played it at friends’ houses so I’m no pro but this always gets me. Of course if folks want to just duke it out, I can whomp em.
I’m addicted to NHL’12.

i bought this thing a month ago… its 2ft long, foot wide… big ol thing… plug it right into the usb port, download mame and whatever arcade roms you want and it plays just like the arcade. broke 6mill on zoo keeper yesterday, my goal is 10mill which is supposedly a “world class” score. yes i’m 40. i’m still playing the same games i did when i was 12. that makes me 40 (12) emotionally. ![]()
Awesome stuff. I feel like I’m 12 with this Mega Man game I’m playing since it’s all 8 bit graphics and stuff. I’ve beat it like five or six times now to get various challenges though I’m a bit burned out on it.
Going to try this game called Trine which I downloaded long ago and never got into. It’s some medieval tip action game with puzzles and I guess you can switch between a knight, thief and wizard to solve all the puzzles. The sequel came out and got good reviews and I’d forgotten I had the original.
90 hours later and I’m done the main quest in Skyrim. I’ve completed one guild and basically not touched any of the other one’s. I still have another 100+ hours of content left to explore, but, as amazing as the game is, I need a break.
Mass Effect 3 is coming out in less than a month and I’m considering playing through the first two games in their entirety again, to properly prepare myself, and my Sheppard…but I still have a ton of unfinished, or even unstarted, games to tackle. I barely started Assassins Creed Revelations, but this whole tower defense thing they added to the campaign makes me not even want to carry on with it. I still have Deus Ex: Human Revolution wrapped in it’s plastic, and I have a ton of arcade games that I bought on sale over the holidays that I should probably get into.
I don’t really want to play anything but Mass Effect 3 though…that game can not come out soon enough. Though SSX does come out a week before it, so I might pick that up just for a little change of pace.
^Awesome news about Skyrim. I know if I played that I’d be one of those guys who would play for 30 hours and never touch the main quest. I always do the side stuff before main quests in my playthroughs and from what I read you can have like 30 sidequests going at once in that one. I’ll be giving it a shot when the price goes down (or whenever they clear out all the bugs…whichever comes first). Just as long as I can play in third-person since I hate first person melee stuff.
Speaking of Mass Effect 1, I finally got the PC version since I don’t have an XBox. But after reading about it, apparently the disc is loaded with DRM stuff. Like there’s this program called Securom that it puts on your computer to supposedly stop piracy but it limits certain function and may keep me from playing other games. Plus each disc is supposedly limited to only three installs and then it’s useless and you have to beg EA to give you more. So that’s going back. After reading around, apparently the Steam version is DRM free so I’ll be going with that.
Neat idea to replay the other two ME games…I heard you can really effect stuff with your playthrough like getting side characters killed in the previous two games…perhaps do a “kill everyone” playthrough to mess around with ME3?
For AC:Rev I’ve heard plenty about the horrors of the tower defense stuff but I also read that if you work hard on keeping your profile positive you can avoid quite a bit of those…might be the best option to keep your sanity. I still have to play Brotherhood before I get to that one. I’ve also heard I should play it offline if I want all the trophies because apparently all the patches actually screw up the trophies. Typical.
Deus Ex, I know a number guys with this. They say it’s sweet but can be a pain and if you don’t prepare your character well (like focus on all stealth) you’ll be woefully unprepared for certain bosses (who stealth won’t help you with). Be careful, I guess. Supposedly it’s a good challenge too.
Me, I was replaying Mega Man 9 a number of times to try out the 50 challenges. I have most of them but I’m now going for the “beat the game without being hit” challenge which will be brutal. The individual stages I can handle (got through three so far) but then you have to go through the four Wily stages (and fight the 8 bosses again) and beat Wily without being hit. That will be insane. When it comes to it, I’ll be making only one or two attempts at that per night just to keep my sanity.
Still playing Trine which is pretty fun and creative. The knight is the brute character who kills stuff and smashes things, the thief has a grappling hook to reach high-reaching areas and has arrows and the wizard is most interesting as he can make crates and planks out of thin air. These can be combined for some creative solutions for some puzzles. It’s really just side-scrolling with light fighting and light puzzling and small story elements mostly told by the narrator between levels. For a download game, both the graphics and music are really well done. Why is it all the independent, download-only games that seem to have the best music these days?
Ug…I’ve still got a ton of games to plow through myself…I always go out and buy tons of games because they’re cheap and take forever to play them. Right now to play I have Monster Tale (Metroid-esque game for DS), Bayonetta, Lego Pirates of the Caribbean, Miles Edgeworth Investigations (an Ace Attorney game), Nier, Majin and the Forsaken Fortress, Dante’s Inferno, Saint’s Row 2, and the PS1 Rayman. I also just got Uncharted 1 & 2 for cheap and have Mega Man 10 downloaded to play. I need help.
That worries me. I just recently beat Brotherhood… and it took me a little while to grasp onto that after AC2. AC2 being one of the greatest games I have ever played (and still holding the title I think…)
Yeah, AC2 was pretty darn good. I was really down on AC1 so I was glad I gave it a chance. They really improved it from AC2. They even cut down on the Desmond segments which was nice. Most reviews I’ve read really have said Revelations is very good and it’s just that one tower defense part that drives everyone nuts. And like I said, apparently playing in a certain way can avoid most of them.
I’ve played the first Mass Effect about seven times now and Mass Effect 2 three times. You totally make decisions that alter various events in both games and apparently many of those decisions carry over to the third game as well. Having said that, what Bioware has done well, (or has done to hurt the series depending on your perspective), is that each game is kind of a self contained story within the greater Mass Effect fiction. I know they are doing this so that people could jump on board with just the second or third installment of the franchise, but it is kind of bothersome that many of the larger plot points of the first game are never referenced in the second game, but maybe they will be in the third. It just seems like a lot of the decisions that you make that impact the games aren’t really all that important to the overall stories in the games, but more to how characters and certain events carry over. It’s tough to explain if you haven’t played the games…but the strongest part of Mass Effect 1 and 2 are the stories and that’s really why I keep replaying them. Same reason I rewatch the Star Wars movies every so often; it’s just amazing epic sci fi story telling.
AC2 and Brotherhood are two of my favorite games this generation. Maybe I just need a longer break from the franchise. Once a year is too much for a 40 hour game like this unless you are going to really switch things up and not just add a stupid minigame that, if anything, takes away from the overall experience. If they keep releasing them at this pace, I don’t think I will buy the next Assassins Creed.
I only had to beat the one tower defense and never did another one. although i was kind of disappointed with the overall length. it seemed much shorter than the other games, and it did little to explain where desmond was going to go in the story.
^LOL! Yeah, I actually read that was an upcoming game in a magazine I got a couple weeks ago. They’re milking that one pretty bad. However, I believed they’ve ended Ezio and Altair’s story with Revelations and will be going with someone new so hopefully they’ll actually take some time on the next one.
Overall, no surprise with the Desmond stuff not geting wrapped up. It’s mostly because there’s no end to it. They’ve placed the modern-day Templars as being so uber-powerful and all-seeing and all-knowing with their hands in everything, it’s silly to think that Desmond and his little Scooby Doo crew will do anything to stop them. I wish they’d just tone that part of the story since it always goes nowhere. Thankfully, the period pieces are much better.
On ME, I can’t imagine them allowing players to change TOO much of the story…in a game where story is such a big deal, it’d be near-impossible to do a plot that changes THAT much with the player’s actions. I figured it’s a few scenes here or there or having one character fulfill a role instead of another. However, I’ll liekly see little of it as I’ll be playing ME1 on PC and then getting the PS3 versions of ME2 and ME3. I’ll be getting to Part 1 eventually.
And now I am too…
Soooo much fun…Had some EPIC games…
Love the new Goalie animations…Scoring is sick!!!
Gonna pick up UFC sometime soon, heard its much better than the 2nd…
Not enough time for all these games damnit!!!
::buys lotto tix::
PS3 and 360 owners…go download the SSX demo. It’s a significant chunk of content that you get and will help you practice up for when the game comes out. I played it for about an hour last night and I’m just sitting here thinking at work how I could improve my game. Probably the best Snowboarding game I’ve played in a long long time…or maybe ever.
I also decided I’m not going to play through the first Mass Effect again, since I have played it 7 times already, and have a totally maxed out character. But I started a 4th playthrough of Mass Effect 2, and I’m trying to beat it on Insanity. It is really fucking tough though…I don’t know if I’ll be able to beat it by March 6.
Also still playing through Dragon Quest V on the DS. Just downloaded the demo for the new 3DS Resident Evil game too, and it looks really amazing for a 3DS game. Too bad it still plays like a shitty resident evil game. I’ll probably pick it up anyway when the price drops, just because it seems like it will be good for some cheap scares.
I had SSX Tricky for Gamecube, and it is still one of the funnest game I have ever played. Will definitely be picking this one up.
I just started up Dante’s Inferno recently. It’s basically identical to God of War so far though using the projectile cross attacks seem to be a bit broken from what I can see. Even better is how over the top and vulgar the game is. I’ve come across such enemies as Unbaptized Babies, Lust Demons who have a large tentacle springing from their vaginas, A boss who spawned monsters which crawled out of her nipple, and a fat Glutton creature with man-boobs who does both a vomit and diarrhea attack. Hilarious stuff.
Thoughts on UFC3
Much improved career mode with tons of shit to do and more emphasis on actual fighting than doing dumbass drills over and over like the 1st one, much better than EA MMA as well, just lots more in-depth and you can watch any fight on any card during your career during Pay-Per-Views…
Ground Game is sick, lots of new animations and positions and much improved Subs, only issue so far are wayyyyy too many Reversals…
Striking feels a tiny bit stiff compared to EA MMA and I need to improve my blocking since it’s now 2 buttons (Hi and Lo) instead of just one like in EA MMA…Had some sick KO’s last nite, some were Counter-Flash Ko’s which look insane…
Only issue so far is the Camera which tries to Zoom in and out too much which cause some minor glitch’s, other than that a damn good game with a ton of stuff to do and I don’t even play online…
Now with this game and NHL12, FIFA12 that I already have and the fact that MLB 2k12 is about to come out, I’m gonna have a tough time figuring out what to play since all these games are highly addictive… ![]()
Me, I’m the champion of the world for finally getting the Mr. Perfect challenge in Mega Man 9 this weekend…which is beating the game with no hits. You can save after the first eight levels but there’s no saves for all the four Dr. Wily levels and you have to go through all eight bosses in a row before fighting Dr. Wily which killed almost all my runs. I FINALLY did the damn thing on Saturday morning after a ridiculous amount of tries and much gnashing of teeth and rending of garments. I’d never gotten past the boss rush part with no hits before and when I did I was a nervous wreck before fighting Wily (since I’d failed so many times) but I’d done it enough times that I knew how to react to every attack. Plus I saw a video using a pause method to see what attack Wily would do before he did it so I could react accordingly and that helped. But either way, I rule and I got my 100% of all the Challenges in that game. I have Mega Man 10 waiting but I need a break from the little guy…apparently they have the same challenge in that game but I read you can go on easy mode to save in between Wily levels so I may do that. Even if it’s cheap, I don’t care…up until I got it, the run in MM9 was quite soul-crushing.
Still playing Dante’s Inferno and it’s not bad…though a bit repetitive with fights as I get into the later levels but I still enjoy the rush of fighting. Either way, the atmosphere is still quite evil and gruesome so I like that. I also stopped using the cross weapon since it’s so broken that it’s demolishes everything if you use it…It knocks back all the monsters and does far more damage than the scythe. So I’m sticking with a “scythe-only” melee playthrough to spice it up and keep the challenge fresh. There’s also a spell that creates an armor that heals you and you can combine that with a relic that refills MP which could give you infinite healing…I try not to use that too. Not sure why they made these so unbalanced. It’s a good challenge without using those two though…
I freaking flared up my carpal tunnel pain playing that stupid video game too much. That was dumb.
SSX is out and it is fucking awesome. It’s got this great Asynchronous multiplayer thing going, so all you xboxers should pick it up and I’ll show you all a thing or two.
Just kidding…I kind of suck at the game, but it is really awesome to be able to race with your friends whether they are online or not.
