You’ll get no argument from me. You know how the Raider fans were kinda hoping that Al Davis would keel over but would never say it out loud…well we’re kinda, maybe, possibly, hoping for the same…ahem…

Overall, the only reason that Matt Millen was able to become the worst GM of all time was because no GM has ever been that bad and not been fired for that long before. Because Ford Sr. is half-comatose at this point. There were stories that on the Monday after each game, Millen would watch the game again with Ford and explain the intracacies of the game…and likely shifted blame for all the bad players from himself. And even then Ford Sr. only fired Millen mostly because Ford Jr. publicly said in an interview that he would fire Millen if he was in charge and it became a pride thing.

Even his hiring after Millen was fired was lazy as he just promoted a few guys under Millen…I guess we were lucky that they’ve done fairly well so far. But the article is legit…you can’t suck for this long and not see people eventualy stop going…as bad as the Lions have been it wasn’t until around 2007 that we started getting consistent blackouts in Ford Field. But after this year, it’ll likely go back up…that place is packed each game this year…they’re really pumping up this “Be the loudest crowd. Get false starts” promotion which is pretty fun.

Man I’m typing a lot…sheesh. Sorry folks.

Eh, classic case of a bunch of guys making decisions about something they know nothing about or really care. “We need an act for Thanksgiving” “It’s Detroit so let’s get a rock group” “What’s the big rock group these days?” “Eh, the stats say Nickelback is pretty popular…plus they have a new album to promote” “Eh, book em. Next”

Decisions made by folks who A) Don’t like music and B) Don’t really care who the acts are.

And wow @ those afternoon games. For almost every one of those game, the team I picked was down and rallied back to win. Arizona, the Giants, Denver…all big comebacks. I had to jump onto a computer to follow them all. Nice win by the Giants…I had a feeling the NE defense would let them down…they’re just not that good. And I love betting against Oakland ever since they picked up Palmer…I swear I’m the only one on the planet outside of Cincinnati who remembers that he sucked his last two years.

^Maybe it’s me but that drive that Cutler put together right at the start of the 4th quarter was a work of frickin art. How many crazy busted plays did he pull out of his behind? He had to work for everything on that drive and it proved to be the winning score. Really good stuff. In fact, since the Lions loss, Cutler has been on a tear with some really solid play.

I guess it’s just appropriate that it’s Lions@Bears this weekend. With the Bears improving, it’s a huge deal for the Wild Card and such.

The Lions are embarrassing themselves and like I said before, it started with their coach and has transferred to the field today…

Oh, and I know, I know, disgruntled Vikes fan etc… No, I just love watching these divisional games and I was rooting for Chicago from the get go, as I think they are the only Division opponent that could possibly make it hard for GB later on here… And as I have explained before, if the Vikes cannot win it, anyone other than the Pack makes me happy… Yes, even the Lions but…

Lions are looking like thugs. There were so real questionable actions yesterday and it all comes back to Schwartz. Stafford made himself out to be a real sore loser as well, can not believe Moore got ejected and nothing on Stafford. Suh seemed to learn a lot from his meeting too, that you ARE allowed to rip of QB’s helmets . End complaining.

That being said, Bears looked pretty good, but the Lions just looked sloppy and weak. Bears played physical football, Lions only got physical when the game got out of hand, and it was more chippy physical than anything else.

There are few things more satisfying than seeing a bully exposed as a fraud. And when the bully gets hopping-up-and-down mad about it, and keeps trying to act tough, yet keeps getting exposed, well, that’s just straight-up comedy.

Jim Harbaugh didn’t turn the Detroit Lions into clowns. He just started the process a few weeks ago with his cocky, mocking, post-game handshake with Detroit coach Jim Schwartz, who hopped around and tried to go after Harbaugh. That was the beginning of the end for what had been portrayed as a feel-good story.

Since then, the Lions have become more and more of a joke every week. But on Sunday, they were at their worst, cheap-shotting the Bears at every chance, tearing off helmets and throwing them out of bounds, trying to rip off heads and intimidate the Bears.

Meanwhile, the Bears calmly put an absolute, complete beatdown on the Lions, punking them in winning 37-13. It was as if the Bears were just patting the Lions on the head.

“Sometimes, teams do that when they get down, I guess,” Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher said. “It didn’t really matter. We didn’t partake in any of their stuff.”

Remember the old Looney Tunes character Yosemite Sam? Little guy with an enormous cowboy hat and bright red beard, always losing his temper and acting tough before being humiliated by Bugs Bunny?

That’s the Lions. Or maybe it’s just Schwartz, their leader.

They aren’t even tough. They can’t run, can’t stop the run. And quarterback Matt Stafford threw four interceptions Sunday, though he was playing with a broken finger.

“It was more the wind than it was anything else,” Schwartz said. “The one interception he threw, the ball moved about 3 yards on him after he threw it. It was very unpredictable wind.”

The wind?

“It seemed like it was gusting at all the wrong times. It was the same thing with the kicking game. All of a sudden, it came for a field-goal attempt, and it seemed like for the Bears, the wind died down.”

The wind.

Yosemite Schwartz has set the example with his big, overly excited shows on the sideline. Defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham adds his own craziness. And now defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, never known as a cheap-shotter in college, is turning into the dirtiest player in the NFL. The rest of the team is following Suh.

The truth is, there is nothing wrong with some cheap shots. The league’s old-time tough-guy legends were built on them. They add a certain thrill and nervousness to a game.

Yes, this is in defense of the cheap shot. But you can’t let them define you. You have to be defined as something else, and then work in a few cheap shots.

In the middle of the second quarter, with the Lions already down 20-3, Bears quarterback Jay Cutler ran for 10 yards, and Suh made the tackle by ripping off Cutler’s helmet and throwing it to the sideline.

It was only good luck that Cutler’s head wasn’t still inside.

“Crossed the line?” Bears coach Lovie Smith said. “I think it’s safe to say you shouldn’t do that.”

Later, when a play was over, Suh pushed Cutler down from behind. In the third quarter, Detroit tackle Nick Fairley also hit Cutler late and drove his head into the quarterback.

But the height of the Lions’ clown act came early in the fourth quarter. Stafford threw an interception that Tim Jennings ran back 52 yards. Stafford ran all the way downfield to try to make the tackle, but Bears cornerback D.J. Moore was lightly blocking him all the way.

In the end, Detroit receiver Nate Burleson hit Jennings hard after he had stepped out of bounds. Meanwhile, Stafford grabbed Moore by the helmet with both hands and threw him down. Moore got up and ran over Stafford.

A fight broke out. Plenty of players from both teams joined in. And Moore was thrown out of the game.

No penalties for Detroit.

“He kind of blocked me and I was just trying to get him off of me the best I knew how,” Stafford said. “I guess he didn’t like the way I did it, and he didn’t want to talk about it.”

Did you like the way you did it?

“Yup.”

The Lions’ narrative changed so quickly. A few weeks ago they were 5-0 and a story about the little guy growing up. Losers becoming winners. It turns out, the Lions didn’t know how to be winners.

Schwartz might want to revisit the whole idea of team discipline.

“Discipline for what?” he said, face getting red as he started to stomp. “For their guy getting kicked out of the game? Did Matt get penalized? No, Matt didn’t even get penalized.”

So you don’t think there is a discipline problem?

“I think it was a turnover problem,” he said.

Which he blamed on the wind. The wind.

Afterward, the Lions sounded delusional. Defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch said that the Bears had cheap-shotted Stafford by hitting him after the play. He said there is an unwritten rule that you don’t hit the quarterback after he throws an interception.

But there is also an unwritten rule that the quarterback doesn’t chase after the ball if he doesn’t want to be hit. He also doesn’t grab a defender by the helmet and throw him down.

“I don’t see anything wrong with what Matt did,” Vanden Bosch said.

The Lions were a fun story for half a season, anyway. But like it is in the NCAA tournament, we fall in love with low seeds early on, and then when the business end of a championship comes, it’s time to focus on the big boys.

It just doesn’t usually happen this way, though. Cinderella doesn’t usually grow a long red beard, put on a huge cowboy hat and start stomping around.
