Are You Ready For Some Football! NFL 2011

Alright…what’s your whiny problem with the Lions THIS week?

Yup. (And spare me this, “I only cheer against them because I hate the Packers.” garbage. I don’t even mind if you now hate the Lions in some sort of off-shoot to annoy me but at least be honest about it. How is you’re so nice in other threads and so bitter and sad in this one? Did the Schwartz sodomize you in a shower years ago or something?..You really should go to the cops with that stuff. )

And ho-hum. Yet another anti-Lions article. All this means is we’ve arrived. How many of these types of articles were written in the TEN years under the Millen era when we had nothing but nice guys who sucked. This justifies EVERYTHING the Lions are doing and if you don’t see that then you don’t get it.

And while you’re at it, go find me all of these “the bullies got shown up” articles from the Pistons Bad Boys era and tell me what a failure THAT was. You can call them bullies but the point is you’re calling them SOMETHING. We win.

By the way, your Vikings are on Monday night. Write about them for once. And funny…I didn’t see any of this stuff when we blew out Denver. Hmmm…

Somehow I doubt it.

Keep it coming, baby! I hope Suh rips off Cam Newton’s helmet and then bites off his ear next week. I’ll buy it on Ebay.

[/tiresome Lions ripping]

I knew it. Flacco was due for another stinker. He’s been near-awful this year. And I saw the game…Rice didn’t run because they couldn’t but five carries is pretty shocking.

And wow, John Fox…I’ve ripped him a little but he’s been awfully clever with changing his approach to Tebow. It’s just run run run and possibly the return of option play to the NFL. I was at the bar watching all the games last night and I loved the run plays they put together. Maybe he’ll run the wishbone next week!

And like always, I don’t hate the Atlanta decision to go for it in their own zone but the play call…YUCK. I just read an article by Gregg Easterbrook about uncreative the short-yardage plays have been lately. Gosh, put a guy in motion, shift the line, shift a lineman and run the other way. D-Linemen are just too big these days to run up the middle when the EXPECT you to run up the middle.

Ug…and come on, Browns…I pick you guys this week and they botch the snap on a possible game-winning field goal. I guess I don’t mean to pile on but…ug…

And holy Jon Sketon, Batman! He throws two picks within his own 20 and someone wins because Vick was possibly worse. Nice work, Cards. This was a classic “You’re probably not winning much with Mike Vick” game. I like Vick and it’s been an amazing comeback and all but he’s so limited at times. And Jackson was suspended but even when he’s played it hasn’t been that great.

TEBOOOOOW!!

The lions have not arrived… I still think they miss the playoffs, and I don’t even know what their schedule is like. da bears seem poised to surpass them, somehow. hard to believe with how terrible that O line was a month ago. mike tice=brilliant

^I’m totally with you on the Bears…they’ve been VERY good since that Monday Night game. I said it in an earlier post.

And the Lions have a pretty tough late schedule. And if they miss the playoffs it doesn’t matter since this type of season is still world’s better than what we’ve had in the last decade. I NEVER expected to make the playoffs when this season started and the fact that they still have a shot is awesome. Just being in it makes this season a success…unless they just collapse again.

And yes they have DEFINITELY arrived. Just this thread is proof. Look at how joyous everyone is that they lost! How many other teams have everyone else in joy when they lose? They’ve definitely arrived, much to everyone else’s chagrin.

And could we get THREE NFC North teams in the playoffs? The Bears and Lions are done playing each other…they could possibly both get in. Atlanta was the best competition to get a wild card and they lost. The Skins, Philly and Tampa seem to be playing themselves out of it. That leaves Dallas who is looking better but the Lions have a tiebreak over. I mean, the Lions may miss the playoffs but SOMEONE has to take it from them.

Stevo - While your child molestation comments might make you smile, until you have walked a day in those shoes buddy, I suggest you carefully review what you have to say/type before you do… Poor choice in words.

I still don’t believe how much hatred there is over a team that has sucked so much ass over their entire existence.

Not such a good weekend for the Bills. Not good. Their old ways are back, I suppose.

I’ve talked to a lot of people who have changed their mind about the Lions, the problem is they went from awesome underdog -> dirtiest team in the league (A segue Phish couldn’t pull of in their prime!) (I keed I keed). I think that is the only reason non Detroit fans are hating on them. They just looked DIRTY against the Bears.

The NFC North will always be my favorite division and outside of playoff implications or the North playing the Vikings I’ll root for the Lions and Bears (never GB :imp: )

I was hoping for a better matchup last night. Every couple weeks there is a game that’s gruesome and that was the one. I still think the Lions match up well against other teams but their schedule is crazy from here on out:
Sunday, November 20 CAROLINA PANTHERS FOX 1:00 p.m.
Thursday, November 24 GREEN BAY PACKERS FOX # 12:30 p.m.
Sunday, December 4 at New Orleans Saints FOX 1:00 p.m.
Sunday, December 11 MINNESOTA VIKINGS FOX 1:00 p.m.
Sunday, December 18 at Oakland Raiders FOX 4:05 p.m.
Saturday, December 24 SAN DIEGO CHARGERS CBS 4:05 p.m.
Sunday, January 1 at Green Bay Packers FOX 1:00 p.m.

I do see 4 wins in there maybe, and that’s a WC berth. Lions vs. Bears will be the NFC N storyline to watch the rest of the year.
The only thing I don’t like about the Lions is coach Schwartz and I even liked him before the year began. But I like Stafford (DJ Moore assault aside) and Calvin Johnson. Once the Lions get a top 10-12 defense and LeShoure back they’ll be consistently scary.

Finally, I’m kind of dreading tonight. But AD is crazy fun to watch along with Ponder’s development so it might be interesting.

The above rings so TRUE - Schwartz ruined the Lions IMHO… (Although I do think Stafford is a pussy for that Moore play)

And yes, AD and Ponder are the silver lining for the Vikes, but less we forget about Allen, I think he might have 2.5 sacks tonight…

Vikes lose by 10 but I’ll bet it is a decent game for most of the night!

Me neither. What exactly have the Lions done to other teams to make them so annoyed? What, that 11-game road losing streak to the Vikings wasn’t long enough? Was 0-16 not pathetic enough? We’ve seen other so-called “dirty” teams over the years (Raiders, Ravens, Pats, Jets, Steelers, etc) and they don’t get close to the amount of hate I’m seeing. I don’t get it. And it’s not like the Lions are the only team with nasty hits and scuffles…I see them every week in this league. It’s football.

What is dirty? Pushing a few guys after the play a few times? Again, that’s football. And for the billionth time, the Lions have had years and years of nice guys who got trucked and then just shrugged their shoulders after the game. And this includes getting rolled by the refs who would screw us out of wins and NO ONE cared. Give me this “dirty” team over that bunch of nice guys any day.

Only problem is I’m not sure what’s so different about him this year aside from the fact that his team is winning.

Assault? Really? The guy went at Stafford because you’re allowed free hits on a QB after an INT and Stafford threw him down. Then Moore was pissed and went at him. I don’t see an issue either way. Moore went at Stafford and all that happened was he looked a little silly at being thrown down. Again, a little too much dramatics over what was overall a pretty lame hit…it’s not Moore got hurt at all. This isn’t like Suh flinging Jake Delhomme to the ground or anything. I’d expect any QB to defend himself in that situation.

But oh yeah…Stafford’s a pussy for playing with multiple injuries and a broken hand. I forgot.

If taking an 0-16 disaster of a team and making them a contender three years later is “ruining” the Lions then I hope he demolishes, crushes and destroys the Lions before he’s done.

And seriously, Mr. Insky…no one is overtaking the Pack this year…they’ve got the #1 seed and that’s that. If you want to cheer for them to go down then start cheering for their opponents in the playoffs because the only way they’re going down is through some upset in the playoffs.

And why are we ripping the Lions after we all just witnessed that crime against football that was Monday night? Someone tell the Vikings that they’re allowed to throw more than ten yards on plays other than the flea-flicker.

^Vikes lost, told you they would… so…?

Not much you can rip on the Vikes my friend, I have said it all prior. THEY FLAT OUT STINK!

The Lions had a great chance this season, I guess what sucks is their HC is a cock a maniac psycho, that is what will ruin your team. That, and they are dirty…

BTW, it is the same thing I said about Chilly, just watch Schwartzy slowly fall into the Chilly realm…

Yeah. By ten. That seems to imply that the game wouldn’t be over after the opening kickoff.

Yup. No bitterness at all… Nope Nope Nope. And the only thing Schwartz is ruining is your opinion of the Lions which I doubt he cares about.

So now that we’ve established that Schwartz is Satan and the Lions are evil demonic dirty players, then let’s stop whining about it EVERY week, yes?

You never said he was dirty. Just that he was an idiot and everyone on his team hated him.

Alright, enough of this bullshit.

The Lions are pissing so many people off because of their attitude towards winning.
All year, since their first victory, they have been talking about how this team is different than any other team before it. And how they are so much better than before. At first the media, and gen. pop agreed. They looked better, they played better. Hell, 2 huge comback victories in the first 3 weeks? Hey they might be better. Good for them, they deserve it.
Then, as a couple of more weeks went on, and they showed that might just be for real, they started puffing their chests more. And they were beating some teams who were supposed to be successful. Good for them, they just might be the real deal. But it seems like all the accolades that they were getting went straight to their heads. And the chest puffing went to full on “we’re the best team in the NFC, easily, and maybe all of the NFL”. And I think that’s where the public perception seemed to change. I think that it’s great that a team believes in themselves and feels they can win. But what the Lions were emitting was something else. It was full-on cockiness and arrogance. And for a team that has YEARS of futility to come around, puff their chests out, and claim to be the best in the league after 5 weeks, well, that didn’t sit well with the “public”. But the people in Detroit didn’t/don’t see it this way becaus their hometown heroes were finally winning games. No fault of theirs, nature of the beast. No one see’s that their husband is an asshole who treats her like shit, cause he’s bringing in tons and tons of money. See the connection?
So, then the Lions started losing. And they were losing to quality teams. But the Lions can’t take it as being outplayed. No, they seemd to blame it on refs, and not getting calls. And the refs being out for them and not letting them win.
So, now you have a public who’s positive opinion is waning, and now they are not taking accountablity for losing. And it’s just not a good mix. They are just coming across like whiney kids who don’t get their way.
A sure sign of team that has not arrived is how you handle adversity. And from the way the team has comported themselves in the last 5 weeks, it is reflective of a team that can’t handle adversity.
It starts with the coach. After what happened with Harbaugh after the 49ers game. They way he handled it was readicculus. You are a head coach in the NFL. You are supposed to be above chasing another coach down and threatening to kick his ass. Now, the way Harbaugh acted was just as childish, but he did what he did and moved on. But Schwartz could have just shot back with some comment, and went into the locker room and flipped out in private. But he couldn’t compose himself and decided to try and fight Harbaugh on the field. Not a good sign when that comes out after your first loss.
So then the next week, they lose to Atlanta, and if memory serves, the play on the field was representative of the loss of composure. Many more penalties on the Lions, late hits, unsportsmanlike conduct, etc…
This wasn’t some conspiracy by the league or the refs to keep the Lions down.
Now we come to this past week against the Bears. As I’m watching this game, it’s very easy to see what I was talking about above come to fruition.
Once the Lions got down so fast, the wheels seemed to come off.
To sight just a couple of examples:
-Suh ripping off Cutler’s helmet and throwing it. Why? couldn’t just make the tackle? Letting out some frustrations? Don’t see him doing that the first couple of weeks when they’re winning.
-The hit from Vandenbosh on Cutler in the Bear’s endzone. After Cutler threw the ball, Vandenbosh laid a hard hit on Cutler. No problem there. But when looking at the replay, it was a dirty hit. Legal yes, but dirty. QB’s have had their seasons ended countless times becasue of hits like that.
-And the one I want to point out the most is the Moore/Stafford “fight”. You can’t honestly believe that all Stafford did was toss Moore to the ground, can you? Moore was blocking him down the field. And he kept blocking. Stafford couldn’t disengage, so he did whatever he could do. Which was grab him with both hands by the facemask, twist his head, and throw him to the ground. Again, dirty. If you can’t handle being blocked, then it’s best to stay away from the play as it unfolds. No one would blame the franchise QB for doing that. But then to get all pissy when Moore comes at you after the play, well, that just screams sore loser. Moore went after Stafford for an illegal, dirty play.

boy, I should be working right now, so I’ll leave it at that. Just my .02

oh, and for the record, the Vikings have as many wins as the Dolphins, so yeah, we stinks!!! (Dolphins & Vikings) But at least we’re not the Colts!!! heyy-oooooo

There isn’t much denying the Lions are at least somewhat dirty (unless you Suh or Schwartz I guess). I mean penalties and ripped helmets speak for themselves. That being said it’s not like other dirty teams haven’t gotten press. I am sure Steelers fans hear enough about it as well.

I think we are talking about it because… there are a decent amount of NFC North fans on this site. STUNNER!! And we like to talk about our teams.

^^Clark, I’m sorry but that is the same biased anti-Lions drivel I’ve been reading for a while. If you were just presenting facts, I’d understand.

The thing that bugs me most are these comments that the Lions were “puffing their chests out” and acting like jerks because they were winning. It’s just not fucking true. That’s the same sensationalized garbage that I’ve seen in these other articles. People stick words and actions in their mouths that just didn’t happen.

Before the season, they talked about how this team is different and could be good?..Yeah so does EVERY frickin team that wasn’t good the previous year.

What is this puffing the chest crap? Schwartz has said again and again and again that they enjoy a win for that evening and then the next day that win means nothing and they move on. He has EMPHASIZED this in almost every interview he’s ever been in and he’s said the EXACT same thing after wins and losses. And it’s passed to the players and I’ve heard other players like Suh repeating the same thing. DO SOME FUCKIN RESEARCH before you put labels on our players. This is NOT Rex Ryan. All this team has done is try to defend itself against this garbage who puts comments and attitudes on players that don’t exist. If anything, these tired accusations are what is GIVING them this attitude since they feel like everyone is out to get them.

When were they “not taking accountability for losing”?? HUH?? Even after the Schwartz/Harbaugh thing the VERY FIRST thing Schwartz said was that he regrets it because it took the attention away from the great game and the players. But NOOOO you conveniently didn’t hear that because you want to attach a label to a team that doesn’t exist. And you REALLY think this team gives a shit about their “public opinion waning”?? REALLY?? Schwart himself has also said he doesn’t care about that either. And I love how you just can’t POSSIBLY fathom that maybe Schwart regrets that incident and won’t be doing it again…no one can POSSIBLY imagine that happening? He’s a young coach and made one mistake and he’s tainted for life? REALLY?

And where were all these unsportsmanlikes and late hits and other garbage against the Lions in the Atlanta game? There were penalties but it was retarded stuff like false starts, pass interference and other things that killed our drives. I was at the game and I WISH there had been more violent stuff because the game was somewhat boring otherwise. The Lions were just bad. And all that crap about them making fun of Ryan was garbage…I already ranted far too much about that. I was there…it DIDN’T HAPPEN.

And you didn’t see Suh nailing QBs and doing stuff when they were winning? I beg to differ. He’s had FAR less of those types of penalties these last few weeks when they haven’t been than earlier in the season. That was the first thing he’d done in a few weeks but nobody cares about the truth, right?

Oh, and how nice of Clark to ignore Suh himself contacting the commissioner’s office himself after the SF game and then him, Schwartz and our GM meeting the commissioner in the bye week to discuss all of these allegations and such. Boy, that’s sure the actions of “dirty” player who wants to just hurt guys. Nice of you to leave that part. See what I mean about sensationalism? This is also just part of the ignorance of the media…I heard multiple national shows who actually thought Suh was summoned BY the commish because they simply didn’t do the research. This garbage goes on all the time and it’s part of how half of this stuff gets out.

And what the bloody hell was Stafford supposed to do? That wasn’t a simple block and you know it. He came at Stafford because that’s what these guys do. Trust me…defenders KNOW that Stafford gets injuries and they’re going after him for it…I’ve seen it game after game…and yet he hasn’t said a thing about because he doesn’t want to complain. Then he defends himself and he’s considered some dirty player because he’s on the Lions since every player is apparently required to make an oath to Satan when they sign here. The dude can’t fucking win. We’ve even got Phishinsky calling him a pussy despite him getting an injury in almost every game and playing through all of them. Yup, don’t let the truth get in the way of your bias.

If you want to rip them for late hits and rough play, then fine. That’s not something you can refute…it’s right there on camera. And again, I don’t fucking care if they’re considered “dirty.” It’s the NFL and they’re all men here…deal with it, you babies! You don’t like it, then do what the Bears did and punch the Lions in the mouth. What’s the damn problem here? As Phishycubs said, they’re not the ONLY team doing this stuff and you guys act like they are! I haven’t refuted anything about the ACTUAL dirty plays like ripping that helmet off…and since when is everyone sympathetic to Jay Cutler anyway?..This is the guy who whined his way out of Denver and bashed everyone on his team and fans on the way out…I’m supposed to feel sorry for HIM? Please.

But all this stuff about the Lions having a bad “attitude” is crap. They’ve had a fine attitude about not getting too up for wins and not too low for losses. Stop sticking words in their mouths. It’s tiresome.

And for God’s sake can we PLEASE actually talk about actual FOOTBALL. Does anyone here actually WATCH games or do we just read negative, biased articles about the Lions?

What the heck about all the injuries? Schaub and Cassel possibly done? Roethisburger and Stafford breaking fingers? Vick might be out with ribs? Holy backup QB, Batman!!

^^ & ^^^Both points are true and well stated - There are limited discussions about the Packers so with all the talks about the Vikes, Lions and Bears, I would agree. Only one person takes it all to personal…

Now to close this door:

Stevo - I have no retort, you continually add words and twist things, which is too bad but I always accepted it. I have had fun with you until you brought up child molestation, that showed your true colors, and it sickened me…

Never, in any manner, would I reference a child being molested in any venue and you did that, which crossed my personal line. Your quotes, comments and thoughts were ALWAYS respected and I enjoyed the banter but those comments about a child being molested ruined it for me.

Lions suck, your coach is odd and I always played to that, but you crossed a line in my mind.

Next time ask yourself, “If it were I who heard this and had lived through something like this, would it be a good comment to make?”…

Don’t play in the oven if you don’t want to get burned, I guess.

It doesn’t matter because I’m NOT making these comments to someone who lived through it. It’s disingenuous for you to get offended by it because you have no reason to. We have too many folks who try to get offended in favor of other people when they have no reason to be offended in the first place. Not to mention that my reference was so silly and ridiculous, it’s impossible to take seriously like you are. It’s a joke. Get over it. And if you think this “showed my true colors” then you haven’t been paying attention.

You can joke about anything. The world is a joke and people take things too seriously. I’ve believed this from the start and always will. I have ALWAYS said that our parents teach us that “sticks and stones break out bones, but words will never hurt me.” So why are we taught that as kids but once we become adults, that goes out the window? The words don’t change when we get older and they’re no less harmless than they ever were. Why do adults elevate themselves to lower than a child when it comes to this stuff.

Heck, for all I know this is another of your ploys to rope me in…you’ve done it before. It’s the boy who cried wolf at this point. I mean, I posted that, you make a few responses afterward and then two days later you finally decide to get offend and take me to task? Please. Unless, of course, you’re not reading my posts which would frankly explain a lot. And if you “enjoyed the banter” then that makes one of us because I’ve found this media-fueled garbage to be very tiresome and it’s the exact stuff that I watch sports to escape.

And hey, if me throwing a molestation blast gets these stupid anti-Lions debates to end then I should have done it early.

Defiant to the end,
Stevo

P.S. I am NOT addressing this garbage again. Talk football. You can’t POSSIBLY tell me there’s nothing in this entire league to talk about.

But as a peace offering here’s Spock versus Kirk.

Schizophrenic to the end,
Stevo

Anyway, Jets/Denver this Thursday. Should be interesting. I still think it’s awesome how Denver is getting it done with this run-option stuff (also great to help revive McGahee also) but I wonder if they’ll be able to move the ball against a pretty solid D in the Jets. The Sanchise has been pretty awful lately so it’s hard to say what you’ll get from him. Ah, crazy NFL…we love you.

I hope the Bronco’s won’t (and I don’t think they will either) because I got the Jets D for my fantasy match up. But we will see. I am excited to actually watch Tebow play a game instead of hearing the ridiculous arguments about him on First Take.
