At the stoplights in your area...

I had only ever seen the green arrow first. Green arrow -> yellow arrow -> green light. I recently noticed in Mansfield, Ohio that the green arrow is at the end after the light turns red. Green light -> yellow light -> red light -> green arrow.

Does this make sense?

EDIT: I was questioning whether or not the post made sense. Whether or not the order of the lights makes sense is not my concern. I’m not a civil engineer either.

i suppose, what do i know though, i’m no civil engineer

usually i’ll see one direction get both an arrow and a regular green light at the same time, while the opposing direction stays red. Then the arrow will disappear while the main light stays green, and the other direction turns green.

It depends on the interesection. I’ve seen it both ways, mostly due to a lot of the lights having sensors now. There’s no “both” option, so I guess I’ll vote for the first as it is more common to see a green arrow first and then green light.

I don’t have a car. The walk sign turns on when I push the button.

In Burlington, I’ve seen the green light first, and then the arrow. Just the other day I noticed this for the first time. I was taking a left and the light was green. I proceeded to get into the center of the intersection waiting for a break, and than, all of a sudden, the green arrow came on and I felt like an idiot for inching forward.

But, I think back home, in NY, they do it the other way around.

I’m not voting.

i’ve noticed this at intersections in my town too. guess it’s because of the higher volume of traffic coming from one direction. i wonder if all those people are going to work? if so then they would all be coming back around the same time and the whole process would need to be reversed for evening rush hour.

also this reminds me that i haven’t listened to a good “slave to the traffic light” in a while.

I have seen all sorts of options.

Pretty much any you could think of.

we dont have stop lights in atlanta

It’s mostly arrow first, but there are some intersections where the reverse is true as well. Very confusing at times.

All options in MN, some even have clocks telling you how long you have to walk across a road…

I have a green sparrow here… lol

Usually I look up at the intersection, and it’s just a psychedelic mess, so I just floor it & hope for the best.

I’ve actually seen both here in Michigan but overall the more common one is the green light followed by the green left turn arrow. I like that one more since if the through traffic isn’t moving, you can still make the left turn on the blinking red light…at least at most lights you can.

I prefer roundabouts.

Just kidding.

I’ve found taht pretty much whichever way would work best to get me where I’m going fastest, the traffic lights will usually work the opposite way.
