final/last “Satisfaction”: 06-18-92 [148] - Jerry Garcia’s 52nd birthday

^ I was there too. That Stella Blue was great…

^1st and only Dead show.

I watch that clip and it feels like I’m looking through old family albums trying to catch the essence of a grandfather I never was alive to meet, but appreciate all the same.

God, I miss Jerry…and I never really even got to see him live, but if the vibe you feel through the music is any indication of the man he was on stage and in life, I"m sure he’s was a character worth missing.

^You might have summed that up in the same manner as I would of, never saw him live but …yeah… you said it!

Damn, I thought there was going to be video of that show. My absolutely favorite non-GD Jerry. “One more? One more? OKay. One more.”

Alas, alack, alum. RIP Mr. G. I never knew yee but through recording.

happy birfday Jerry!

Just heard a four-play on Cleveland’s classic rock station.

Studio Touch of Grey
A live Deal I did not recognize. Shredding Garcia at his best.
Studio FOTD
A live Franklin’s Tower, I believe it was from Live At Nassau. But I could be mistaken.

^nice.

the only Dead i’ve ever heard on the radio down here is Touch of Grey and Sugar Magnolia once on the classic rock station’s 2 for Tuesday.

Happy birthday fat man, I love and miss you more than words can tell.

He’s gone and nothins gonna bring him back

Well, today is the day.

Fo sho.

Man.

It was touching to see Trey play “Ripple” on 8/9/05, even though there weren’t many other highlights from the show.

Marley and I spent some time in the chatroom yesterday reminiscing about Jerry. Kind of a bittersweet experience anytime you start discussing Garcia, for sure.

I only saw the Dead twice, but believe me, it changed my life.

R.I.P.

I want to say to my sisters and my brothers
Keep the faith
When the storm flies and the wind blows
Go on at a steady pace
When the battle is fought and the victory’s won
We can all shout together, we have overcome
We’ll talk to the Father and the Son
When we make it to the promised land

If we walk together, little children
We won’t ever have to worry
Through this world of trouble
We’ve got to love one another
Let us take our fellow man by the hand
Try to help him to understand
We can all be together
For ever and ever
When we make it to the promised land

Our bible reads
Thou shalt not be afraid
Of the terror by night
Nor the arrow that flies by day
Nor for the pestilence
That walketh in the darkness
Nor for the destruction
That waiteth in the noonday hour

This world is not our home
We are only passing through
Our trail is all made up
Way beyond the blue
Let us do the very best that we can
While we’re travelin’ through this land
We can all be together
Shaking a hand
When we make it to the promised land

When we make it to the promised land children
Make it to the promised land children
Make it to the promised land children
Make it to the promised land
When we make it to the promised land sisters
Make it to the promised land children
We can all be together, forever and ever
When we make it to the promised land

Such a long long time to be gone and a short time to be there…

A pistol shot, at five oclock, the bells of heaven ring,
Tell me what you done it for, no I wont tell you a thing.
Yesterday I begged you before I hit the ground,
All I leave behind me is only what I found.

If you can abide it, let the hurdy-gurdy play,
Stranger ones have come by here before they flew away.
I will not condemn you nor yet would I deny,
I would ask the same of you, but failing, will not die.

Take up your china doll, take up your china doll,
Its only fractured and just a little nervous from the fall.
La-la-la-la-la-la-la.

I remember being 17. Music at the time was something you listened to, 'cos its what the other kids were listening to. Whatever was on the radio, Whatever was on MTV, etc. In the summer of 93, I listened to a show on a couple of Maxell XLII that a friend had lent me.

I wound up being priveleged enough to see the Dead subsequently a few times that summer. Everything changed. Music went from being a casual pastime, to a passion. Garcia is one of the main reasons I can’t go through a day without listening to, playing, or talking about music. He had the ability to sing and play to fifty thousand people and make each one of them feel like he was serenading them personally. Twelve years ago today we lost one of the true Genius’ in the History of American Music.

So at some point today, kick back(with or without recreationals), and put on some GD.
