Which songs do you think best show off each band members individual instrumental talents?
I always thought Foam showed Fishman’s best work, as Moma Dance does with Gordan.
Other examples?

Limb by Limb is a good Fishman showcase tune. Any tune that has open space for Page to unleash his grand piano runs (Lizards come to mind but there are plenty of other tunes).
For Trey, I would go to songs that have those delicate composed solos like Lizards, Divided Sky, I am Hydrogen and the end of Waste, Dirt and Wading.
It’s hard for me to point to any specific Mike moments. He’s the anchor, always.
Interesting thread.
For Mike examples, I always think of Jibboo and Ghost. Because when the jam starts, he seems to be quite prominent…and that can play a large role in the direction of the jam (see NYC 2000 “Ghost”!).
Great thread! I think part of the reason I’m so drawn to the early composed work (The Curtain With is a great example) is because ALL of them shine in those demanding, intricate compositions.
Good call on Foam for Fish and Moma Dance for Gordon. I remember Mike saying that Moma was one of his favorite songs to play live (that might have been in the context of the other SotG tunes). Easy to see why, he rips it.
Fish- Taste or Limb X Limb
Page- Gin
Trey- I love his playing on the ballads. He is the only cat I can think of that can take a slow one like Waste or If I could and turn them into blistering rock infernos
Mike- Ghost
michael bolton, i celebrate his entire collection. it doesn’t get any better then when he sings “when a man loves a woman.”
Mike - Ghost, FOAM, Weekapaug
Page - What does one gauge this on?
Fish - Wedge, Fast part of Guyute, Mound, FRANKENSTEIN!
Trey - Julius, Guyute, YEM, the guy wrote all of this too
BWAHA!
As far as gauging Page, I can see how it’d be tough. Hmmmm. I tend to listen to a lot of "It’s Ice"s and find Page shines!
coil is a nice page showcase, some of those coil outros are just so damn magnificent it brings a tear to my eye
1 song each?
Page - Maze
Mike - Weekapaug
Fish - Limb x Limb
Trey - Bowie
The thing with Page is, what accents his talents on the Piano, what accents his talents on the Clavi, what accents his talents on the Hammond Organ? I celebrate the guys entire catalog.
Trey- Any Ballad, Any Gamehendge tune
Page- Coil, Gin
Fish- LXL, Mango Song
Gordo-DWD, Moma, YEM, Mikes Groove, Ghost
One may be alone on this one, but Fishman’s work in Time Turns Elastic is very impressive, IMO.
^I’m with ya 100% on that one as well…
Light is a fantastic showcase for the entire band. It’s Ice is probably up there. There are so many songs they do that show off their talents…
Fluffhead pretty much shows off all their chops.

I concur.

Agreed.
i gotta add fishmans work on the composed part of reba.
Trey - Mike’s Song, Bowie (I read this above, but this one melts my face more often than any other)
Page - Squirming Coil
Fish - Cavern (this one gets me), Guyute (I’m copying on this one, but damn UB-40…you are right! I love his beat in this one.)
Mike - Maze, Ya Mar/Weigh (maybe I think these 2 because he sings, but he drops the bombs), and of course Weekapaug
