Bar 17 on Trey's MySpace

Posted this in the “Bar 17 Album Cover” thread, but don’t want to steal it.

You can listen to the studio parts of Dragonfly, Bar 17, Cincinnatti, and Host Across the Potomac.

Dragonfly has horns, Bar 17 has a really nice piano/violin/acoustic instrumental intro and I love it. Host Across the Potomac has some nice bass lines…Cactus?

I know I’ve said it enough, but I can’t wait for the album!

Trey haters, don’t even start with me!

I loved what I heard, especially the title track. Trey’s voice has become really croaky and pretty, but bare in my mind that I’m not so familiar with his work 2000 onwards. I’ll have to find this album somewhere…

It was pretty cool, but I’m not really a fan of his voice anymore.

Wow, I was not expecting dragonfly to be like that on the album. I am not a fan of it, but I think I could come around after a few listens.

Is this the album with Mike and the Duo on four tracks? I thought it was supposed to come out in summer, in support of the GRAB tour.

I haven’t really been keeping up with this. I still don’t have Shine, and I don’t think I ever will, but this album will be better I bet. I’ll bite the bullet and buy it new.

^ I think there is one song with Mike and one song with the Duo, though there might be more stuff on the second disc.

What do you guys have against his voice. I think it sounds great…his voice always sounds different on studio recordings than it does live, and I think his voice on most of the songs, except Dragonfly, sounds pretty much what Trey studio voice always sounds like. As for Dragonfly, it’s got kinda that McCartney “Oh Darling” type thing going on…I think he wanted to make his voice sound kinda raunchy and road-weary for that song…

I don’t see how anyone can deny that this will be a great album.

^
I think his voice sound raunchy and croaky on every song!

And I hope it will be a great album…you never know with these dirty hippie jam bands…

j/k

In general I’ve heard far too much criticsim of phish’s vocals on the OKP. I don’t get it.

For the most part I think they sound wonderful. Part of what makes phish songs like Fee, Forbin’s->Mockingbird, Lizards, etc., so awesome is singing along! I’ll admit Trey and Page’s vocals may not be what they once were, and Trey especially sounded terrible at points post-hiatus (Vegas 04 mainly), but they can (could) still mesh well together. Mike sounds better every time I hear him!

best trey studio work (solo) = Push on Til the Day IMO.

but new trey just flat out blows in my book. hate all you want, and no i wont be at trey shows. look for me on southeast traveler shows.

No no no, funnily enough I like his Bar 17 vocals…love them in fact! They’re far better than those Phish 91s I can tell you…he must’ve had some more tuition or something…

Dragonfly sounds amazing. I can’t wait!

100 posts…good one man! Joined the same time as you too…

Is it called Push on 'til the day, or is it self-titled? Or are they two separate albums? I’m confused.

I have the album that I think is simply called Trey Anastasio. I like that album a lot, especially that last track.

The album was just called Trey Anastasio, yeah it had Push on on there somewhere. Got a good review from AMG if I remember correctly.

Man, I don’t really dig Dragonfly when its slow.

Here’s a little info on Dragonfly and might spread some light onto his vocals. This must have been taken from an interview he did, but I got this from PT…

“I felt completely unleashed for the first time while recording,” he admits. “For example, the song “Dragonfly” was completely done in real time; it was written and recorded that night as you hear it. Vocals were done from a stream of consciousness. I had nothing written down. I just grabbed the mike and started singing.”

Wow, that is pretty interesting. I don’t have a problem with the way the words are sung, I just don’t really like the raspiness of it.

“Trey Anastasio” is a must have! Out of the new songs on myspace, I like Host the most!

That’s gotta be Mike…i could tell immediately

And for the record, I’m really glad i didn’t buy shine, so i can afford to buy this album…It sounds really textured and i wanna say this is going to be trey’s majorly successful album even though it seems like a flook or a rushed album. I have a feeling its going to be reeeeally good

sounds ok so far
