OK, just got done with my first full listen to Shine 2.
I mean Bar 17.
mehhhhhh…
I was expecting a lot more. I can’t find any specific quotes, but I remember people being excited because it was going to be completely different than Shine.
And I should say I liked Shine, but I haven’t listened to it in about 6 months. There is just no repeat value for me.
And this is exactly what I think of this new album.
Trey wants to be pretty. Trey wants to sing. It hurts my ears. It kinda feels like someone is pissing in them.
edit- And after thinking about it, I prefer Shine over Bar 17.
^That’s kind of why I’m expecting to like it.
Right now, I’m kind of digging that pretty, singing side of Trey. I know his vocals aren’t the best, but they’re Trey. And I love that.
yea im gettin teh same feeling, although i feel like its def a step up from shine. but very pretty singy.
i feel like hte songs have more material to them than in shine. i feel like they’r a little slow though, and hte few upbeat songs, mud city, and dragonfly, are kinda not what i expected from trey. actually mud city i kinda like the rhodes line in it, not hte lyrics as much though. dragonfly just doesnt really do it for me yet.
i feel like i need to listen to it multiple times over to really get the gist of it though.
sry for hte double post, but i jsut realized. i kinda had a similar reaction to round room initially, that there were a lot of slow/pretyt songs. but now i love round room. hopefully bar 17 will grow on me as well.

poignant? yes. honest? yes. i respect that a lot. it’s one of trey’s most admirable qualities, his integrity to his experience. musically interesting? god, i hate to say it…but not so much.
though i do like Let Me Lie quite a bit. it has that “something” that only trey does right. for me, anyway. same w/ What’s Done. aaaand that’s about it for me. shit. well, that’s okay. the good news is he’s always evolving and pushing himself. i believe he maybe has gotten all the tender feelings recorded, and he will grow bored w/ that, and bring back the rock. please.

well, yeah. he has evolved from where he was before to where he is now hasn’t he? and he will evolve from where he is now to wherever he’ll be next. pretty simple really.
