Bar 17 on Trey's MySpace

Don’t feel sorry for Trey man…he’s doing pretty well. Making music that he wants to make and having a great time doing it. He’s got what seems like a good family life and he’s not too terribly fucked on drugs anymore…Someone wanting to be successful in aspects of his/her life/career that they previously weren’t is no reason to pity that person…I feel way more sorry for people who are too hung up on what Trey did and don’t want to see him move forward…their the ones that are going to be let down. Just be happy for him and listen, because he has many great years left in him, and if you just get hung up on his past, you won’t able to enjoy what he is bringing to the world still.

Nicely put GR!!!

And welcome back by the way (with the normal name that is)!

yea i think whatever trey continues to do is a huge upgrade from the ‘drugged up’ trey,

honestly i gave shine another go the other day, and while i dont think its the trey i love, its not bad at all, good song writing, etc.

what im really hoping for is a solid album in bar 17, im positive im gonna like it, anyway trey can piss in my ears and i would not give a shit

I never said I’m not happy that Trey is sober, healthy, and making the kind of music he wants to make. I feel sorry for him because the kind of music he has made post-Coventry is not just a step down from Phish but a step down from TAB.
I concede that GRAB was good and I haven’t heard Bar 17 yet in its entirety, but this isn’t a matter of not being able to let old things go. Hell, we had a whole thread about how I never saw Phish, so I’ve never had anything to hold unto anyway. I don’t have this whole childlike inability to not let Phish go because I never ‘had’ Phish. The truth as I see it is that the music Trey is making now is watered down crap and I don’t understand how he can listen to it and think it’s remotely satisfying. I respect that artists change and follow their muse, but you can only give someone so much of a leash before it turns into a noose. I realize this sounds like a fan demanding too much or being a brat, but I guess I’m not used to artists changing and growing in ways I perceive as ‘wrong’ for lack of a better term…

i love that trey went with some simple singer/songwriter stuff. i mean, why not? i like the deeper side, hearing what he has to say. it’s not the most EXCITING stuff ever, but the guy has 20 years of stuff to tell us about. i’m all ears.

that being said, i’m super pumped about his return to the ROCK! ; )

^^ I still stand by what I said. There is no need to pity Trey…I just feel bad for those people who don’t like Trey’s new stuff…you think it watered down, fine, but like you say you weren’t there to enjoy Phish in the first place (nor was I), so maybe you wouldn’t have liked them at the time either. In fact you didn’t…so like I say…I feel sorry for those who don’t like Trey’s new stuff, because looking back on it, you are going to wish that you would have gone and seen Trey on this tour…and I am too. Unfortunately I don’t have the means of travel or financial resources to make it happen…I can’t believe any of you that could possibly afford to go to a show aren’t going…

sorry for rambling…I’m saturday afternoon drunkj…

I understand what you’re saying Greg…I just completely disagree.

I doubt I will ever regret not seeing Trey on his solo tours post-Phish. This doesn’t mean GRAB, I mean his 70 Volt Parade dreck. If I ever listen to Shine someday and think it’s good music I will know I’ve lost it and jump off a cliff.

you ought to see him, if not for his music then the fact that its fucking TREY ANASTASIO, perhaps one of the greatest current guitarists

With Trey shows, you take the good with the bad

Some moments are great but of course there’s a lot of somewhat lame lyrics and poppy stuff

when you are in the same room w/ Ernest the 3rd, you feel a charge. i don’t care what material he’s concentrating on, there WILL be a moment (or many) that takes you somewhere you wouldn’t be able to go if you weren’t in that room. always worth it to me.

UPDATE!!!

i got the phish email today and my heart is POUNDING!!!

each preorder of Bar 17 will not only come with the free 18 Steps cd

but ONE PERSON WILL WIN 2 TIX TO A TREY SHOW OF THEIR CHOICE (not vegoose) AND GET A 30 MINUTE GUITAR CRASH COURSE WITH THE GUITAR GOD HIMSELF!!!

ahhh i wanna win!!!

Sweeeeeeet deal! What if your choice was Phish’s comeback gig? That way, they’d HAVE to play again in order to keep up their end of the promise.

Always thinking.

Always.

Then Phish would reunite at Vegoose, where you can’t get free tickets, just to screw with the winner. ;D

Ahaaaaaaaaaaaa!

If you want some reunion news…watch sirius the next couple of days…

I smell Chili.

!!!

where!
