Bathtub Gin

No other original song, in my opinion, poses a bigger threat in the jamming arena. Balls to the wall. This song give the band the best chance to lock gears and rock out.

Best version ever?

11/7/96 - Very arguably the song and the version of the song that really got me into phish…I mean REALLY…

i’m a big fan of the one from the filler on LivePhish 17…killer high energy for all 23 minutes

Haters of the post-hiatus are going to hate me… but I have said it many time (I think) on this board, 2-22-03, second night in Cincy… Unbelievable… Normal Gin jam for about 10 minutes, then Trey just switches gears, Page follows, and what conitnues is pure great jam. I would put this jam (in my opinion), atop the post-hiatus songs.

Murat 93, Worcester 95 or UIC 98!

Cannot decide?

^UIC 98 is pretty badass

6-28-00 has a peak that is hard to match.
8-16-96 is also gorgeous (a little short IMO)

I feel that I haven’t heard enough to offer an informed opinion on this, but I quite like 4/5/98 if only for the smooooth segue into Cities. A unique version, even though I know it ain’t the best.

That is a good call.

how about nassau 2/28/03

Murat 93 GIN is a killer of all GINS!!!

I really meant 11/2/96, not 11/7…

This song is one of the first three songs that got me into phish. One of my favorites is 11/23/97 regular gin, then trey/fish swith gears on things. a raging 30 min jam that segues into DWD>Low Rider>DWD. Awesome show!!! Highlighted by arguably one of the best gins.

i’d like to offer 12-29-95, The Real Gin

lexington’s not bad either

^ He caught you buddy…now whatcha gotta say boy?

Nelson laughs: Haw-haw!

my personal fave is 7/29/98. it opens the show and is just a 23 minute non stop high energy groove.

also, the Great Went Gin is fantastic.

and Murat 93…

Ok, so this is just for the sake of controversy and argument. I have over the years held the famed Murat Gin of 1993 in high regard. THis is one of those jams that every serious Phish head knows and loves. When I was first seriously getting into Phish this was one of the first tapes I was issued by a friend.

I lately broke out the show and realized: I don’t think the jam is all that! Sure, for about two minutes there is a really big jam towards the end. But, this is a Weekapaug jam. How can the best Gin only be considered the best because of a jam of another song just kind of thrust into the middle/end of a fairly standard effort? How did this gain so much acclaim?

Don’t get me wrong, I have gained a lot of joy from listening to this jam. But, I still think that this one is a little overated. Especially the begining. I hate the section where they are singing the notes they are jamming.

Thoughts? Outrage? Agreeance? Im curious to see how many people yell at me!

the one i’m listenin to now its pretty awesome. amazing intro. from 11/28/03 Nassau Coliseum long island NY.

I just heard this one on Live Phish Radio. It fucking rages at the end and segues into Free veeeryyy well.
