Best Albums of the '90's...

If Nirvana Unplugged is an album, Phish A Live One is as well.

explain your logic. Nirvana Unplugged was a recording of a single live concert they played. A Live One is a compilation of songs from different shows on the summer '94 tour. they’re definitely not the same thing.

That was not my thinking…

I was more on the point that a live show isn’t an album.

I guess it is a live album though… whatever.

A Live One is a live album.

So LivePhish 1-20 are albums and A Live One isn’t? If what makes Nirvana Unplugged an album is that it’s all from one show, than I guess all the LivePhish releases must be as well no? And Anthem of the Sun isn’t an album because the performances are pulled from various shows and studio performances? If Nirvana Unplugged is an album, then you bet your ass A Live One is too.

LOL!!! Man, back then I used to get SO high and listen to “Little Pig Went to Market”

Yeah, I’m weird about her. I LOVE When the Pawn but I just can’t get into her first album (though Criminal is a nice tune) or her latest album which is fairly bland. I wonder if Pawn was her catching lightning in a bottle or something…

And I didn’t know we were including Live Albums here…I assumed it was all studio stuff. If we’re including live stuff, I’d have to compile an entirely separate list with stuff like Join Together, Pulse and Live One right at the top.

My thought was studio album…

Some people have differing ideas though.

i’m not so sure i consider live releases albums in the first place.

i wasn’t making one point or another - i was merely playing devil’s advocate. i just didn’t understand what you were saying. i think i agree with you, though. i don’t consider live releases to be albums period.

I wasn’t considering them albums either, so I guess we are all in agreement. Because you could say NYE’95 then I guess, and that just doesn’t make sense.

I’d echo the Jane’s Addiction, Fiona Apple, Ween and pretty much everything else here. I’d add Air’s Moon Safari.

Back when they weren’t so untz-untzy. This album has a really raw sound to it.

Nirvana unplugged was billed as a one-time show that was going to be recorded and sold. They all knew this ahead of time. All the songs they decided to use and practice beforehand were in preparation for that album. It’s not like they were an acoustic band that happened to release a random show from one of their tours nor is it a compilation of live shows (a la A Live One) that were listened to and chosen for release after the fact. But I guess it really doesn’t matter as this is just a list of cds people like from the 90’s.

I just thought of this yesterday. A MAJOR oversight on my part.

Also…

There we go…

a live one is a “real-time” live release, therefore it qualifys as an album.

I assume that all live albums are “albums.” Except they are “live albums” while ones recorded in a studio are “studio albums.” Not that complicated, really…

Stevo

i think Nirvana Unplugged is their best work

I’d also add

They Might Be Giants - Flood

The Verve - Urban Hymns

holy shit, how could i forget about Flood!?

good call!!

^no kidding. Their 1996 album, Factory Showroom, pretty much rules as well. Mink Car is probably even better, but I think 2002. Which is not 90s. Forget I said it, and don’t you ever forget it.
