I have to agree with dan on this one. November has some indeed sickkkk shows. I have a set of 94 from November (11.12? Julius, Fluff, Disease>Mercy>Disease) and am very impressed. Also the Hampton runs are awesome. Hampton 98 has some great moments and no one can dismiss 11.2.98 as one of the most legendary shows. Then again it was followed by December but I am liking November.
wow, no votes for August (festivals) or October ('ween). i think it’s cuz not a lot of people have seen this poll yet…
I went with November as well. Mainly becuase I’m a fan of the fall shows, fall 94 and 97 inparticular. I though November edged out December only becuase December has the obvious good shows or the NYE runs and what not, so I went with November becuase it was good by itself and it doesn’t need to have any NYE runs to make it great. It’s great all by it self.
Any month where they had been playing alot the month before seems to be the one. If you really think about it they always got better as tours dragged on! Go and research it OKP!
^
summer 03
first half (through 7/19) average at best
second half (through IT) they were on FIRE!
that one just popped into my head.
I’m sure if you go back to their hey-days (93-98) you can find better examples
I would have to disagree slightly with that. ^^ Although the first four shows of summer 03 were rusty and average at best, the gorge shows were solid and had some great moments, UTAH was AWESOME, and parts of 7.18 and all of 7.19 were EXCELLENT. Conversely, I don’t think 7.21, first sets of 7.23, 7.25, and 7.27 are very good at all. 7.21 had a great setlist, but the playing was not inspiring. So, I would agree that the tour (and most tours) got stronger as a whole as it went on, but dismissing everything before 7.21 and saying everything after that was golden is going too far in my opinion.
The only reason December is getting all the votes is for New years runs, right!!! That’s my guess…
^That’s why I went with November. December is too much of an obvious choice becuase the NY runs are going to have more energy either way…
i think that’s partly true, but i also think people are smart enough to recognize the outstanding playing in the weeks leading up to NYE, particularly in 95 and 97
HELLO! December 95! 12/14/95! HELLO! December 97! 12/7/97!
let’s not forget the other outstanding shows…
12/2/95, 12/8/95, 12/11/95
12/6/97, 12/11/97, 12/13/97
yes there are many more, but i think these are, consensus-wise, the cream of the crop
I had to go with August and all the lonely festivals that didn’t get votes. I consider it a tie with December, so I broke it by giving the festivals the edge over New Years.
I think that the New Years Shows are probably the best band of Phish. I saw trey on 12/31/05. If Phish gets back together I’ll see them!
December. The December portions of the phall tours in '94-'97 are all amazing, particularly '95 '97. in December were hot as hell, and obviously NYEN always has some great shows. I also enjoy 12/1-2/03. There’s Big Cypress there too.
I pick august becuase of all the festivals. Those are just so awesome but december comes in second and october third
Yeah, August is definitely second. All those amazing legs of the summer tour that took place in August (August '93 and '97, the festivals). I’ve always loved 8/13/96 too.
agreed, august takes second behind december
Apparently they save the best for last.
Or something.
Have to go with the majority.
December 95 may be my favorite month of Phish ever
other?
