Best Music of 2008

wilde, i gave most of those albums a chance and didn’t dig much of it. for the record, i’m not a person who listens to jambands so please don’t think i’m judging those tunes through the lens of crunchy tunes. ultimately, i feel 2008 didn’t have any great albums. disappoint after disappoint for me. musically, i will remember 2008 as the year that i finally got into The Residents, and i feel like i’ve discovered a musical goldmine with them alone.

You have man. That shit can last you the rest of your days. Do you have Duck Stab yet? Eskimo? Not Available? You need that Early-Mid '70’s stuff and the American Composer series as well. I have a friend with every Residents release now, and he just went down to see them in Chicago for 2 nights this fall. I really should have gone…who knows when I’ll have another chance?

Ten bucks.

^ Most overrated band of the year!

i listen to Eskimo daily. it takes me on a wonderful journey. “the festival of death” is one of the greatest tracks in the history of recorded music. i’m still awaiting a sendspace of Not Available from my friend.

I’m listening to my first track I’ve ever heard by the residents. It is called “Picnic Boy.” This is some disturbing shit maaannn.

But I kind of like it.

Dude…you will love Not Available. My favorite album, with Eskimo being a close second.

Read about it on Wiki. It’s just crazy.

It’s kind of important to know a little about this guy too…

That’s fair enough. I thought a few of 2008’s albums were pretty awesome, but I really don’t have much to compare against. This was the first year I really went all out on trying to keep up with what was current.

Did you listen to the new Animal Collective? I kinda think that album is pretty wicked.

the ziggens. not from 2008 but i just discovered them. nice mix of folk, country, punk, surf, and rock n roll. and sometimes goofy sometimes serious lyrics.

check out the track “on the way”

  1. Bob Dylan-The Bootleg Series, Vol. 8: Tell Tale Signs - Rare and Unreleased 1989-2006
    UNBELIEVABLE

  2. Nine Inch Nails-Ghosts I-IV
instrumental genius madness and best show of the year!!!

3.TV On The Radio-Dear Science
I thought this band was going to die out but this release makes them somewhat viable going forward.

4.Portishead-Third
The return of a classic band.

  1. Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks - Real Emotional Trash
Pavement is still better but thank God Stephen is still playing music

  2. The Faint-Fasciinatiion
Not as good as their other releases but this album gave birth to a KICK ASS tour. AWESOME SHIT!!

definitely the best thing i heard this year but surely does not count.

it says right within the title: 1989-2006

no 2008

^When was that album RELEASED?

/end thread.

I call it a wild card. More qualified for being called “album of the decades”

Fleet Foxes has been going nonstop on my laptop…Quiet house, and Blueridge Mountains are my faves, but the whole cd is phenomenal. I feel like that shouldve been recorded in an old cathedral or something…or was it…

good pick there oscar!

I think this is what I love most about the album. To me it does seem like it was recorded in an old church, with the vocal echoes and resonances. Supremely produced album here folks.

Are they named after the mispronounciation of Nick Lidstrom’s last name?

Well, metal itself is okay but that “The Metal” song by Tenacious D is a HORRIBLE song. In fact it really isn’t metal itself at all. I even saw a live clip where they had some dude in a metal suit representing “The Metal”…it was one of the worst things I’ve ever seen and not even funny. I’d understand if the music was good but…wow…it that’s the best pro-metal anthem we have than I’d say metal is pretty dead.

As for 2008 music, I really couldn’t get into anything. I’m out of it when it comes to the underground music and the mainstream stuff is crap. And I’m a big GnR fan but Chinese Democracy is terrible.

Stevo

Actually, the band is called Lindstr
