Best of Netflix Instant-Queue

Typically like Spacey, and he was good in this movie as Jack Abramoff, a sleazy Washington lobbyist during the Bush asministration. I just didn’t find the story all that. I mean who gives a shit about these crapheads in Washington. Plus the book he wrote upon which the movie is based made it sound like Bush and the republicans were the only ones who were sleazy in that town, mostly because Bush wouldn’t pardon this douchebag when he got caught and was sentenced to six years.

Triangle

Awesome idea for a movie, maybe not quite the best acted. But it works. That is for damn sure. Consider it something like a Memento, where you learn the story from different angles a lot. Definitely worth a view.

p.s. Don’t look up other movie posters for this movie, because it totally gives a huge twist away. I almost posted that one before I noticed.

“Terror Comes in Waves” …hee hee, I love it!

Sin Nombre

The Thing Blue Line

Oh, and forgot to mention this one… Tucker & Dale VS Evil.

Wasn’t expecting it to be funny, but it may be the funniest movie I have seen in quite some time. The chainsaw/beehive scene had me rolling.

They just added Futurama and all the spin off movies up here, so that’s pretty alright.

Damn those Oscars!

In 1971 and 72 I was pretty much obsessed with a PBS series entitled “Upstairs, Downstairs” that was basically a soap opera that followed the lives of a family of means in England and the lives of the staff that served them. I believe it aired on Sunday nights, but I can’t be sure. Suffice it to say, I did nothing during the slot it aired but to make sure I had a good seat in front of the tube.

Well, this past Sunday night when the Oscars aired, all the major networks on the cable decided to show reruns and crap during the same time period. To escape this level of mind control, I tuned over to streaming Netflix and we began watching Season 1 of Downton Abbey, about the Crawley family of the British nobility in 1912 and the staff that serves them.

And those pesky Brits have me captured for sure. What a great, great series. Well written and acted with all of the subtle drama and humor that quality British TV series have been noted for ever since Upstairs Downstairs and before that as well. The fact that I can watch the whole set of shows at one time is wonderful also.

Highly recommend it.

^I’ve heard nothing but good things about that. Definitely intend to check it out once I hit the road again. PBS kicks ass!

I was initially resistant because of the similarities between Upstairs Downstairs, but they had me halfway through the first episode. The directing and editing is also top notch.

Concur completely about Dame Maggie. She has always been one of my favorite actresses.

She’s been in the business over 55 years, and apparently still going strong. Although it is unbelievable that she is probably most recognizable to most people these days from her role as Professor McGonagall in the Harry Potter series of films.

Oh boy, just started Downton Abbey… Totally hooked! I knew we shouldn’t have started this 1 week before my finals

Great music, solid acting. The story gets a little untenable as it gets harder to understand what Gabe remembers and is leaning to remember, but it’s nice to hear some dialog from a passionate music lover. Also kind of neat how actors stood in for the Grateful Dead in a key scene at the end of the movie.

Rango

Really good movie, not quite great though. Definitely enjoyed the Fear&Loathing in the beginning of the film.

Anthem To Beauty is now on Netflix, and they have added 6 or 7 other music documentaries, along with a Queen full concert…

I also watched Everything Must Go with Will Ferrel, he is so underrated as an actor in the drama thread of movies…I think that’s his best stuff right now, I think he’s just done too much comedy over the years in too little time and has fallen into the same old role like so many have in the past few years…but this one really is good, better than Stranger Than Fiction but it’s been a while since I’ve seen that one

Also watched Humboldt County, actually twice so my buddy could watch it, really dig it…lot of cool messages and keeps em pretty balanced

Great documentary on the now defunct nyc venue, Wetlands. Interviews with at least one member of all your favorite jam-type bands and lotsa music from past performances there including a little yem. It’s called Wetlands Preserved. Go now. You watch!

Used to love going there. I saw Moe open for the Dude of Life with Trey, Page, and Fishman there. They also used to have the Konkrete Jungle parties there. Alot of good times in that basement… :smiling_imp:

They put up a TON of the Classic Album series. We rocked this one last night:

Witness to Jonestown.

Wild documentary, with some absolute crazy video/audio that I had never heard before. Plus some stories from Peoples Temple goers who survived that fateful someday (they never explain how, I wish they would).

But definitely worth a watch.

I watched this too, neat. Got a better sense of the history of the band. They played up the “we didn’t play “hip” music” angle a little much, that was my only complaint.

You never complain, so it must be real.
