Don’t know if you know the back story.
Hicks only appeared on Letterman. He was never on any other American TV shows. Was on a couple shows in England as well I think.
He personally hated Jay Leno and NBC wouldn’t have him on the air that early anyway.

The Late Show had some problems with his last set and asked him to change it.
He said go to hell I’m doing my set. Which he did and Letterman just did what CBS said and agreed to not air it. Bill died not long after and Letterman never really got over it. He said it was one of the worst decisions he’s ever made.

I think Letterman was sincere last night.
He really was upset but has done a good job of redeeming himself.
