Bonnaroo '07

he does kind of suck in general, too.

I can safely say that I will be at this Bonnaroo. A couple friends of mine have already expressed serious interest (they’re buying tickets on Friday), and I just can’t resist that lineup. I am breaking my vow to never return there after only one year away. Oh well. Its gonna be a great time and I don’t have much else planned for this summer, so what the hell. I just hope we get a cool and relatively close camp spot. The biggest reason why I vowed to stay away was how far away we had to camp in '05.

this years lineup is simply amazing. I’m trying to put something togather around my area.

moma momma, you go girl. These guys are jaded from the brahness. vowed never to return brah, big name bands ruined it brah. HA laughable, show will be incredible if that IS the lineup. I’ve seen’em all and done’em all folks. Bonn is bomb. period.

Let’s not bag on Ryan Adams brah, you go make cazillion different albums then bag. sweet.

Hear hear. 3 albums 1 year…awesome…plus I love it when he plays, “He’s Gone” and “Bird Song” Not everyone gets to rock Jerry’s Wolf guitar w/ Phil on bass either…bad ass…Oh ya and play backup and produce a Willie album and convince him to cover “Stella Blue”.
Let’s not forget Phil regularly covers Ryan’s tune’s and even Phil and Trey busting out Ryan’s “One for the Rose” late night and “Let it Ride” the following night at Vegoose. On 2-12-06 Phil and Friends w/ Trey busted out Ryans “What Sin.” Shit.

im sure the music is going to be out of this world, for me it’s just a case of “maybe you’ve had to much to fast”

^damn man, where is the rest of that video clip with them big ole knockers, thats some motor boating territory right there

This guy is sooo hetty.

HOLY SHIT, tix are crazy expensive. Cheapest is $184.50?? Are you kidding me? Then up to $199.50 and finally the most outrageous $214.50!! Superfly and AC entertainment have lost their fucking minds. You kids have fun. I could support a small country by staying home

I don’t understand all this hub-bub about the price. $215 is a little steep, but 185 or 200 is not. Its four days camping, 100s of bands (more than any other festival, plus they get bigger names (which cost more)), plus many other emergency services, programs, all that kind of stuff needed to host a large group of people for an entire weekend. It costs money. What do you expect it to cost?

Seeing 7 or 8 of those bands on separate nights at venues within your area would cost the same amount, or more.

200 for the ticket + drugs and booze and gas and other travel…shit…it’d be like 2 grand for me.

no way man…fly out here toVA and hitch a ride with us in our sweet RV… 200 for the ticket, 150 to pitch in for the RV and gas, and however much the cheapest flight from Detroit to Norfolk or Newport News is…

DO IT!

oh yeah.

not counting the tickets the trip is going to cost me at least 5 bills, probably more like 6 or 7

I guess one of my main problems with the cost is that the innaugural bonnaroo with many of the same bands was a hundred bones cheaper. I mean, what other fests with similar line-ups even come close to this price? I dunno, maybe I’m just bitter that the scene has gotten so commercial. That’s another rant for another time though. No offense to you PHG because you’re not the only one to make this arguement, but the whole seeing a few of these bands separately would cost more thing is tired. The point is I’m not seeing them on a separate night. That was the allure of the festival, I thought…to see a bunch of your favorite bands in the same venue for around 100-130 bucks. Anybody remember when the first Roo was like $80 or $90 and how expensive we thought that was? It blows my mind that AC and Superfly think so much of themselves when fests showcasing so many of the same bands are much cheaper. I guess it doesn’t affect me since I was never planning on going anyway, but it still bothers me.

mad lineup = higher prices

Telluride Bluegrass is totally exspensive but easily worth every single penny. Just the way things gotta roll I guess.

^What about fests like 10lk weighing in at only $130 and Waka ranging from $119-$159…both with EXCELLENT line ups.

alright, i know you all have been waiting for it so without further adieu, here is my stance on this year’s Bonnaroo thus far into the preceedings…

This is an explosive lineup although there are really only a few bands that i am all that big on myself, there is certainly a lot of heavy hitters here, some of which i am interested to further investigate. By no means does it hold candle to last year’s lineup. I’ve been to Bonnaroos 2004, 2005 and 2006 and '06 was hands down the sickest year of all. I was down at the stages proably 12-14 hours each day seeing all kinds of bands i like/love. This year there are only about 3-5 bands that i really like/love and with the way i expect it to go down, they’ll all play at the same time. The ticket prices are a bit out of control, still not nearly as bad as Coachella or even Langerado considering the punch packed therein.

And I’ll be the one to say it. I love the fact that Bonnaroo has been bringing in all kinds of acts the past couple of years. Bringing in bands like Radiohead and Bright Eyes and more “indie/snobbish” type of acts helps to open up the minds and create a more positive mindset for this generation. The festival way of life is one that everybody should be celebrating and about half the crowd that was there last year would have never been exposed to it if the headlining slots went exclusively to Trey, Panic, Dave Matthews and members of the Grateful Dead. BUT, this year i think they might have gone too far. I think they’ve neglected the hippies here. Out of all the Phish/Dead members, Bob Weir is the only one holding it down here and frankly i don’t think that’s enough. Without a healthy population of heads, the festival way of life will be diminished by a more “Woodstock '99” crowd and the point of releasing positive vibes on the masses will cease to be. Afterall, we the dirty Phish loving hippies are what made Bonnaroo Bonnaroo in the first place.

That last paragraph being stated I think WSP is a bad call for the third headlining slot. I like them. They’re a solid band and they’re shows are really fun but outside of they’re mysteriously loyal fanbase nobody gives a shit about them and most are somehow violently against them. It’s true. There’s going to be like 500 people watching them. If they must be there they should be on in the afternoon. Like i said, they’re a good band but they are in no way capable of holding it down for the entire hippie population against the likes of Tool and the Police and are not much more help than just having Weir there, same goes for SCI. That third headling slot should go to somebody like CSNY, or even just Neil Young. Somebody that has good hippie roots and will draw the masses into a unifying 3 hour singalong the way Tom Petty did last year (Tom Petty’s set was the single greatest headling B-roo set EVER. Hands down, no way to top it). Tool and the Police are going to do the same shows theyll be doing all summer, that third slot needs to be something special. Even something like Trey & Mike with Medeski, Kreutzmann and Hart would be cool. Get some good jammers up there playing Grateful Dead songs and get everybody in a good mood on their way out Sunday night.

With all of this being the case and my financial situation on the skids at the moment there’s a good chance I might be taking a year off from Bonnaroo. I am so satisfied with last year’s that i won’t even mind taking off this year. There’s no way they could top it for me with this lineup.

Still, my brother and our Bonnaroo riders are planning on going and they, along with the Phish community might be lost without me there too so i’ll probably wind up going just for the hell of it.

that is all.

thank you

and Kesey bless Gamehenge
