never broke any bones

pretty sure I got a concussion in my last high school football game, but that’s about it

jesus, Thom.

broke left wrist x2

broke both pinky’s

seperated shoulder

think thats about it… I try to not hurt my wrist and hands at all costs, need to keep them working well to play the guitar, and to type about what I have broken, U all don’t want me using my nose now do U

remember that thread, wasn’t there one, where u typed out you name with your nose and just posted whatever was in the reply box, i remember doing well in that, hmmm, lets see if i can find that ole thread

Fuck, i’m having no luck

I broke my neck. Three vertebrae and the first rib. Two of the vertebrae were broke twice. Small miracle I’m not paralyzed or dead. I broke them on a Monday and lingered in pain for a few days and didn’t go to the doctor until Thursday. It hurt like a motherfucker too.

What about Eli?

He fell off a ladder and wears an eye patch!

I’m pretty sure he broke something, though.

Maybe not an eyeball, but some other body part.

The assbone, maybe.

Haven’t had any broken bones yet. I have had carpal tunnel syndrome and, most recently, shoulder impingement syndrome. I don’t whats up with me and syndromes but its painful.

I haven’t broken anything either which is amazing because I’m fairly scrawny. I’d knock on wood right now but it might break my knuckles.

Eli totally has us all beat. Where did he go?

My inventory:
broken collar bone
broken left hand
broken left leg
ripped ackilies tendon in right leg
3 fingers
4 toes (1 twice)
6 stiches in the bottom of my right
and one more I won’t mention here (its pretty gross)

oh…now were moving onto stitches?

10 in the head.

7 in the chin.

12 on the side of my knee.

32 in my left forearm.

i think thats it.

I don’t have time to post now…I wasted all my spare minutes scanning and posting Calvin and Hobbes. I’m sure I’ll post later when everyone has set fire to their computer and moved on to enjoy the weekend. I really haven’t broken too many bones. The problem is that I broke my brain. Fuck.

That’s #1 in our books, buddy.

As for the rest of you people…do you spend all day playing in traffic or something?

broken bones?

no.

For 28 years I had never broken a bone or had surgery or been really sick or anything. Then I fell off a ladder. First I hit my head on a pointed wooden fence. It tore my scalp open over the top of my head from ear-to-ear. It left divets in my skull, but it didn’t actually break the bone too much. My skull just opened up along the suture line. (I think that ended up being one of the good things. The opening in the skull eased the pressure and cut down on the brain damage.) I fell the rest of the way to the concrete upside-down and I landed on the back of my head and my neck. (I imagine it like a watermelon rolling off a table and landing on the sidewalk.) The back and sides of my skull were broken…the occipital bone on the back…the temporal bones on the sides around the ears…the vestibular canals in my ears (which has fucked up my balance.) Two vertebrae in the middle of my back had compression fractures. (Like Marley said about his injury, being paralyzed was a definite possibility. Probably Neck too.) EDIT: I also cracked my sternum and bruised some ribs. I initially had aspiration pneumonia in the hospital from sucking down blood. My knee got all torqued and the top of my tibia is bruised. I’ve been using this bone stimulator thing for a few months, and I went to an osteopathic doctor to get the joint/leg adjusted/lined-up. It feels better and better, so I hope to avoid surgery.

And then my brain. Maybe not broken…definitely damaged. They don’t call it traumatic brain injury for nothing. (On a side-note: all the stories of Iraq War veterans with traumatic brain injury are rough…especially the guys who lost limbs and other pieces of their bodies.) The trochlear nerve in the human brain controls the muscles that control eye movement. My trochlear nerve…so small and tiny deep inside my brain…branching off my brain stem and winding up to my eyes…was knocked around. For whatever reason, a common side effect of head trauma is trochlear nerve palsy. I see double all the time, which sucks. My eyes are not correctly lined up. So most of the time, especially at a distance, my eyes don’t look right. You can get away with a lot of things, but fucked up eyes are something that everyone notices. Any other problems relating to brain damage have all improved. The more I do and the more I think, the more my brain gets better and faster.

Well, it’s a pleasure to be the most injured member of the OKP. At least I can be #1 in someone’s book for something. EDIT: I shouldn’t say that. I am #1 in Jamie’s book for everything. That is something that really is a pleasure. Despite my brain injury…she will be home soon. That means everything.

In 2000 I broke my tibia, fibula, and shattered my growth plate in my left leg, right below the knee. My doctor was amazing and pieced it back together the best he could. He put three pins in it to hold it together. It took a while to know if it was going to take or not, because I hadn’t stopped growing yet. After time went on, half of it took, and half didn’t, so my leg is slightly angled at the knee. It’s no big deal now, I guess, but I’m sure I’ll be in line for early arthritis, which will undoubtedly suck.

In '04 I broke my left arm, right above the wrist, had to have surgery on that as well.

All of these were done racing motocross.

I can’t think of anything I’ve ever broken even after 8 years of gymnastics and 7 years of softball. I think I fractured my 5th metacarpal once though (below the base of my pinky) when my brother pulled my “Get in Shape Girl” mat out from under me as I was in mid air about to do a running slide on it. Little bastard! I rolled over it during the fall and fractured it in a couple of places. No plaster cast, just a splint and an ace bandage. I had to sit out off All-Stars for softball for that shit.

I sprained my ankle once in gymnastics doing a back handspring and was on crutches for a week, but nothing too serious.

I had to get stitches in my forehead when I was 4 because I tripped over my blankey and hit the outside edge of the brick stairs. I dunno how many stitches it needed, but there’s definitely a pretty noticeable scar, especially when I wrinkle my forehead.

p.s. We must have one clumsy bunch around the OKP ha…and DAMN Eli, you’re one lucky man!

a few days after my fall my chest started killing me. it hurt the day after but then the pain kept getting worse. i went several times to have my chest x-rayed because i was convinced my sternum was cracked. i actually went back three times to keep having it x-rayed because the pain was THAT bad. they kept telling me it wasnt broken…well…that shit hurt…soemthing was wrong with it…i still get tinges of pain in my sternum and ribs. my back gives out every once in awhile too.

fuck.
