I’ve been trying to get out of the hippie hole as well! I still love moe. though, and a few others that aren’t too generic. I have mostly reverted back to Blind Melon, Porno for Pyros, Janes Addiction and then onto Ben Folds and Elliot Smith, its the real world comin at me.
Frankly I just don’t understand hating on music at all. If it’s understood that it’s only your opinion you are touting, why make it a point that everyone knows you don’t like the disco biscuits? I guess when people hate on the disco biscuits it just gets out of hand and couched in vague references about “the scene” and there is never any qualitative analysis of their music. I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently and I just don’t understand it at all.
But I do agree that jam music or whatever is not the end all be all of music. I’m all for music equality I suppose.
Yeah, I wasn’t intending on biscuit bashing… My understanding, appreciation and excitement about music has increased exponentially since i stopped listening to ‘jambands,’ whatever that means. I wouldn’t have believed that 4 years ago.
I’m never gonna hate on what other people listen to, obviously there are so many paths. But ya gotta search around for those paths…
i wouldn’t even lump tdb fans into the ‘jamband’ scene. most of the kids i know are most into the electronic scene and don’t waste their time going to moe. or umphrey’s shows
