Camp Reggae

Well, I just had an AMAZING weekend and experience here. It was absolutely beautiful. I can’t even bring it into words. The sun was hot, but the weather was wonderful. That place had a VERY high energy. I did lots and lots and lots of hard mountain walking around the beautiful trails and gravel roads, and I never really seemed to get too tired. Yesterday morning was pretty rough, but not too bad.

I didn’t even plan on going until one day before. Everything just worked out left and right. I could say so much, but I’ll try to keep it short. It only had about 900 folks. I didn’t see a single cop. There’s a pond and a creek and lots and lots of BEAUTIFUL areas to camp in. Jati and Marla (Natti Love Joys) own this property, and they are wonderful folks. I mean, just down to earth as you can get. Warm, you know.

Well, I played with Ganasita in the day time on Saturday for hours. By the time night came around, I got shithouse drunk. I ended up stumbling through a camp near mine and ran into Jati and Marla and convinced them to play some, because they decided they weren’t going to. They said, “well, alright, everyone wants us to play, so I guess we will, why don’t you go get you sax?” My jaw dropped. What an honor.

So I got to live out a dream I’ve had for a long while now. I finally got to play onstage at a festival. Day and night. And what a place. Check out the pictures on the site, it’s a lot like Wanee, except a lot hillier, and reggaeier. I played with the Natti’s from 1am to 3:30am last night, trashed. I woke up this morning and my lip is swollen and sore from all the saxophone playing. But no problem, because the memories of Saturday flooded my brain, and I haven’t stopped smiling. The lights, the tents, the campfire, the glowsticks, the people, the vibe, all in this one spot glowing together for me to toot my horn and zone out staring at it. It was high times indeed.

You guys should most definitely check it out. Check out the Natti’s music also, they are very well known in the southeast.

It’s biannual! So if any of you are going to be in the area on Labor day, you have to come by! It’s only 60 bucks. I only paid 20 though. What a fucking blast.
