Captcha Tough to Decipher

So the Pa has been slow lately, and I’ve noticed sometimes when it’s slow I get logged out.

No big deal, just relog, right?

Well today the Pa decided that I have logged in too many times, or ‘exceeded the number of logins,’ so it asked me for a captcha.

The captchas are virtually impossible to decipher. I had to type in ~10 captchas and use a ‘copy image URL’ and paste into a clean browser to be able to read the last one, which changed colors upon being repasted, therefore being easier to read.

On the one hand, I’m glad the Captchas are there for my protection, on the other hand, can we use some other ones which are a bit easier to read, please. Thanks.

Yes, I have had this problem numerous times as well. I have just started reauthenticating myself, getting a random password, and having to change it back. I can’t read those boxes whatsoever.

I know Ian added the captcha lately to fight off the spam, but I am hoping it doesn’t stop new members from joining as well.

I haven’t been able to log on or post to the ohkeepa in fucking days because of this! After 35 tries, here I am… This is bullshit. If I was wanting to join this site, I probably wouldn’t because of that fucking captcha. Then I would be missing out on the love. What a loss. It was a sickening feeling to actually have internet again, and still not be able to enjoy the Pa fully. ARGH! :thumbdown:

I had the same problem last week and thought I was going mad. I still can’t believe I was finally able to get it right after at least a dozen attempts. So. Very. Frustrating.

Holy shit…I just spent the last twenty minutes trying to figure out the captcha. Please tone it down a bit! :wtf:

I sent a message to Ian, he must be on another 4 month hiatus :think:

I did have to reset my password yesterday again, I find that easier than reading that nonsense.

Do new members have to pass that test??

Last time I ever clear my damn cookies. I thought it might help things move a little quicker for me, but all it did was lock me out and force me through the torture of trying to decipher characters that don’t exist in the english language.

After just coming from the Slow Pa thread and then re-reading this one, I can’t help but wonder if these insane captchas are a big part of the problem with our dwindling numbers? Both new members and old? If people are getting locked out and can’t get through to Ian for help maybe they are just giving up?

I have scrapped this awful captcha. We now have a better system in place and I will monitor registrations carefully. :slight_smile:
