Meh.

I’m into it.

It helps that I was raised Christian, and so it’s not just about the trappings of western culture’s christmas for me; it’s more of a profound spirit, if that even makes sense. Even if it doesn’t.

But here’s what I love about Christmas this year ~

I love snow, even though my opinion of winter has taken an unfavorable turn, now that I’ve started disc golfing. So I hope to see some snow.

Scents and tastes! Subtle sounds too!

Looking forward to busting out my own Christmas music collection! Especially Ringo’s I Wanna Be Santa Claus album, my How the Grinch Stole Christmas picture disc, … and we’re NOT listening to Christmas radio in the office, thank the good freakin’ ship lollipop. That stuff will churn my belly nauseous and rot my whole Christmas mood. They do play good stuff sometimes, but something about the random nature of differing versions of these songs really gets my eyeballs rolling.

My kids are cool in my opinion, so I expect the Christmas-ing with them to be fun and easy as usual. And at this time of year I especially appreciate having a family to be with … they’re not forever, so it’s nice that there’s a season to help remind me to soak it in. I’ve been blessed with a good one. They’re not perfect but they’re beautiful. And I might not be beautiful or perfect, but dammit. I’m typing right now.

I generally enjoy my wife’s company as a big part of my Christmas experience … I get more and more sentimental about her specifically at Christmastime it seems. She and I have a solid budget and a plan on how to pay for it … ! So that’s great for once. And she makes these killer cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning. Yeah.

My boys are young enough to still be mesmerized by it all … we’ll watch some of the specials together. I love the classics; especially that 1964 Rudolf claymation.

“This fog is thicker than peanut butter.”

“Uh, you mean pea soup.”

You eat what you like and I’ll eat what I like!

I prefer the term “crotchety.”

I celebrate the winter solstice. I hear people say that most cultures have some sort of ritual celebration sometime around the Solstice. I mean, Jesus is still cool, yo.

Eh…bah humbug.

I’d like to believe that it’s about giving to your fellow man and such but too much of it about “what am I buying for who” and all that crap. Plus I hate malls and this holiday usually forces me to make at least one trip there this year. I couldn’t care less about the religious aspect of it which is basically secondary at this point anyway and I really don’t like a vast majority of Christmas songs…and I hate the bad cover versions of them by crappy bands even worse. On the bright side, at least it gets people to arrange charities and food drives and such to help those far more this time of year so that’s always a good thing even if folks could probably do that all year. Plus the pretty christmas lights are nice but it’s SO much work to set all that junk up just for ONE day and then spend all the time taking it down. And not to mention that unless you’re younger than 15 years old, the holiday NEVER lives up to the hype. I can’t remember the last time I actually got what I asked for.

Either way, I get the days off work so that’s always good. Hurray!

Also, anyone else notice that you can watch the last half-hour of “It’s a Wonderful Life” and totally understand everything that the movie is about. The entire two hours before hand is completely irrelevant.

Stevo

I did all my shopping online this year.

And I impressed myself… because usually by the time I start shopping for gifts, it would be way too late to wait for shipping and whatnot.

Yay me!

^^always the optimist.

that being said, i’m not that into it this year myself. i’ll get there. Christmas Day is always nice.
