Ck5 question

to those who saw some shows on the first leg, is Kuroda still creating “thematic” lighting schemes?

he definately was at Hampton, but i’ve noticed a difference in his work from the vids i’ve seen of summer tour. i don’t really know how to explain what i’m talking about, except to say he always had a certain unmistakable asthetic style and created very specific lighting patterns that seemed to build in intensity with a song/jam. from what i’ve seen recently, he seems to be more haphazard with the color combinations and patterns, kind of ‘blowing his load’ from the getgo.

anyone know what i’m talking about?

Well he did get the new lighting rig which has a lot more color combinations and shit that you can do.

I’m not sure though, I enjoyed the fuck out of the light show that I saw in Knoxville.

I was at 3 shows this tour and CK5 rocked the fuck outta all of them. He “blows his load” only at peaks of songs like the yem vocal jam and the main hook of 2001

Calvin Klein blew his load all over the shows I saw.

New circles and new colors.

Loved it.

And the lights on the stacks/equipment boxes at some of the smaller shows was pure nummy

just to be clear, i wasn’t trying to be pessemistic or anything. CK5 is a wizard. i was just wondering if his general style had changed. i loved the new lights at Hampton.

i guess i’ll find out for myself at Toyota Park.

Yeah, the way I saw it, he was definitely matching the songs with the lights. Obviously I have nothing to compare to, as Asheville and Knoxville were my first shows, but he has impeccable timing and he seems to be able to read the band members’ minds. What really, really blows me away is how he always knows when the climax will hit and responds with an explosion of white lights. Now every time I listen to Phish I can picture the white lights when the climax hits.

CK5 DESTROYED ALPINE!!!1st night Antelope, Maze and 2nd night Crosseyed>Alpine Jam>DWD were lighting masterpieces…He is really getting down some fantastic color combinations and patterns this Summer…

Its only going to keep getting better…

Me too. I think it has to do with the fact that they have been playing outside this whole tour.

^^ Yeah definitely. The lights are way more intense and in your face for the indoor shows. Also the smoke/fog tends to drift away outside, and inside you get to witness all of the lighting themes and stencils that CK5 uses. I tend to enjoy the outdoor lighting as it is much more subtle.
