CK5

There may very well be a thread like this already, but quite frankly, I don’t know how to use the fucking search function, so here it is.

After being able to watch a lot of Pheeeeeesh on YouTube, I get to see the visual aspects of being at shows again.

I firmly believe that Chris was in fact a member of this band, because there is nothing like being at a show and experiencing IT.

He added that final touch into greatness and really helped get you “there”.

Just some props to my man Chris and for all the smokes we had together.

thanks dooooooooooood

Some will say that lights can’t make a show. And they will be wrong. The magic that this man produced, coupled with wonderful music from those four boys we love the best was just a thing of beauty. A great combination for the senses!

No Chris, YOU’RE on the back of the worm!

But I like it here!

He is integral.

I actually forgot JUST how great this man is at what he does.

As I mentioned in another thread, last weekend I finally got around to watching all of 1997-12-29 on DVD, and that Antelope just blew me away. (Along with the finals minutes of Fluffhead, WOW, I never got one of those, and now understand all the hub-bub about that song even more).

The last time I was graced with the light that is CK5 was GRAB in Cleveland last year. That is far too long!

favorite CK5 moments:

10/30/98 Antelope- maybe just because this is the only show I ate acid at, but this was a super intense light show. Just Perfect

10/7/00 YEM- this was a great way to end the pre-hiatus run. The vocal jam at the end also featured a killer light show that almost made me think that the rig was on pulleys and rising and lowering. Very memorable stuff

Just to contribute to this thread, the most recent memory I can conjure of the lights was 8-11-04 during 2001. The band was back lit with some smoke giving the stage that space ship feel… you could barely make out the band with all the swirling lights going behind them streaming out to the crowd. Different parts of the crowd lit up in different colors. It was sweet. When I listen back on that show it comes back easily.

ck5 added sooo much to the live experience! he really took you inside the jams, if you never saw them live you’ll have no idea what i’m talking about. i wish dvd’s could replicate the majesty that was ck5. :’(

The lights were always a treat. Chris is definatly the man and he was glorified just as the others in the form of lot shirts and bumper stickers.
I always used to get really geeked to see the circle lights during Antelope!

I think some of my favorite lights were during Hydrogen. I used to just “float” there. It was weird, I swear sometimes the effects of the light+music could almost send a breeze over the crowd and it would kind of cool you down.

or it was the doses…

prolly the doses…

i think CK5’s lights were analagous to seeing the aurora borealis. always sweet as hell, many times awe-inspiring the way they coupled with the music to make light and sound truly a living, breathing and changing Thing of Beauty…

i’ve always tried to explaine the incredible lights to my non-phish friends (which is all of them, pretty much). they just mock me and say things like “whoooooa doooooooood…trippy.” and proceed to make fun of Trey’s red hair, Mike’s entire face, Phish in general and of course voicing their sharp distaste for the lame and dirty hippies.

i say a bunch of sons of motherless goats is all they are.

I always liked the candy cane color lights during mikes with the smoke machine.

yah.

just sayin’.

thats all.
