Hell yeah. We’re the CHAMPS!!! It feels good. We haven’t won at Penn State since the 60’s and it was pretty cool to see us manhandle them for most of the game. Of course we had to make it interesting at the end, especially when we picked them off and then promptly fumbled it but, oh well…the way this season has gone, I guess we couldn’t have it any other way.
Whatever. I don’t really buy into this prestige that a “BCS Bowl” is any different than any other bowl game. The only people who care about the BCS is the school itself because they get more money for getting a BCS bowl game…but as a fan, I couldn’t care less.
The one thing I DID want was a Rose Bowl bid, though. The tiebreaker for a three-way tie is the ultra-retarded concept of using BCS rankings to determine who goes. I don’t get why a national poll should be used to determine the fate of one division. This is the exact same problem that Texas had a few years ago…they beat Oklahoma early in the season and then by the end of the year, they had the same record, yet Oklahoma got in ahead of them because they were ranked higher because they ran up the score on crap teams just like Wisconsin has done for the last month. It makes no sense and never has but, of course, it’s just to keep the big-time schools at the top and the small-timers at the bottom. In fact, when they did the vote among coaches to include BCS as a tiebreak in the Big Ten, it won 10 to 11. The one coach who didn’t vote for it…Michigan State’s Mark Dantonio. He knew this would happen.
Plus, if it went by the old system of tiebreakes, MSU would be in the Rose Bowl. We had the best strength of schedule amond OSU and Wisconsin and we have the “team with the biggest Rose Bowl drought” as another tiebreak. Frankly, I wouldn’t have even minded has Ohio State got in because MSU never played them, but we frickin beat Wisconsin and beat them pretty soundly…that’s the part that is the worst.
In the end, it’s always about WHEN you beat teams. What if things get reversed and MSU loses to Iowa in their fifth game and instead it’s not until Week 10 or 11 that we beat an undefeated Wisconsin team…would they have ended up the season ranked ahead of State? Of course not. As always, this is why I don’t worry about rankings much and I never worry about who ends up as the Fake National Champion. It’s a farce and it’s always a farce. Even when MSU was undefeated, I fully expected some sort of screwjob so this is no surprise. I don’t care. We’re the Big Ten Champs. We’ll still likely be in the Capital One Bowl on New Year’s against Alabama.
Spoken like a true bitter Wolverine who doesn’t know how to take losing and just came off a 37-7 ass-whupping by their so-called rival after losing to them for the 10th out of 11th time. And what are doing talking smack about bowl games?..you weren’t even IN one for the last few years. And you’re projected to be in the “Insert Generic Company Name - Insight Bowl” which is so bad that it’s on NFL Network so nobody even sees it. I guess it’s just as well since no one will see UofM embarrass themselves on national TV once again. (And I hate to tell you…basically every bowl is the “Insert Generic Company Name” Bowl…sign of the times). But that’s okay, UofM…we already own you in basketball and will for eternity and now we own you in football and we’re the Big Ten Champs…and, oh yeah, we won a National Title in hockey a couple years ago too if you care. Actually, I kind of hope you win the bowl game and maybe they’ll stupidly keep Rich Rod around…he’s my favorite UofM coach ever. I love watching him blame media and his own players whenever he loses…good times.

And here’s my favorite clip of your coach crying a year ago against Ohio State. Kind of like you now. Heh. Go State.
Yeah, I almost always cheer for USC in this game but it’s just impossible to cheer for that weasel Lane Kiffen. Nice work, Irish. I gotta agree though I was pretty livid that ABC gave me this game instead of the ultra-exciting Oklahoma/Oklahoma State game. Even worse, both Notre Dame and the ESPN game ended with about 7 minutes in the Okie game and they STILL didn’t cut to the end where about four TDs were scored in the final two minutes. Once again, thanks for blowing it again ESPN.
