College Football 2010

Yeah, that’s just it…The Spartans putting up an 11-1 season would ALSO be something really special. A few years ago, I was just happy if this team made a frickin bowl game…and now we could have a possible one-loss season. Sadly, I saw the Iowa loss a mile away. The Spartan’s biggest strength is running the ball and we couldn’t run the ball against both Illinois and Northwestern and we were expected to do it against Iowa? No way. And with Illinois, their offense was so pathetic, he had a chance and with NW, their secondary was so pathetic we could pass on them the entire time. Cousins was due to have a bad game and he had a really bad one. But like you said, if we can run on the rest of our games and that would be huge and still get us into a pretty badass bowl game. There’s still a chance for a Rose Bowl also which would be the first time for the Spartans since Jesus walked the Earth. That would be nuts.

And yeah, I assumed Boise wouldn’t make it either way. Boise’s better than my Spartans but we would have been ranked above them had we run the table just because we’re in the Big Ten. Either way, this is why I just don’t worry about Championships in college football…it’s not what the sport is about and it never will be until they have a playoff. And why no talk about TCU and Utah getting screwed every year as well? They’ve been just as good as Boise these last few years and Utah even beat frickin Alabama.

I just wonder if they’ll further the insult by once again having Boise and TCU meet in a bowl game to prevent them from making a “BCS Conference” school look stupid.

Auburn is Fucked…This Cam Newton story is not going to end up pretty.

^I’m SO sick of the Cam Newton thing. I don’t care which agent or which random due from Miss State got some random text message or from whoever. I just don’t frickin care. ESPN has jumped all over this and not a single thing has been proven and it’s quite possible not a thing will be proven…and they can’t prove that Cam knew about it which is the heart of the whole matter.

Even worse, I’m ESPECIALLY sick of the “how will this effect Cam’s play on the field” debate that seems to happen after EVERY one of these types of scandals and it NEVER effects the players on the field. It’s the dumbest debate ever.

In the end, I think I’m sick of any NCAA investigation…they’re such hypocrites with their rules that I don’t blame anyone for trying to make money off their stardom in college.

And MSU against Purdue…hopefully their offense will look like it did against UofM…if they could have gotten ANYTHING going against the Wolvies, they could have won that game…I was frustrated and I don’t even cheer for them. And Iowa could do us all a big favor if they can upset Ohio State. It’s unlikely but it would be nice.

Gotta say we’ve had about three straight weeks of pretty lackluster college football. Usually only one or two really good games each week and lots of lame blowouts and extremely questionable games being put on primetime. (How did OSU/Minnesota become my ABC 8pm game of the week!!!???)

^ You can be sick of the case all you want, but it’s not going away. Something is going to come of this.

^Yeah, the NCAA making millions is going to slap down on some athlete who’s trying to make a buck off his talents. Heaven forbid. My point is that when “something comes of this” THEN they can let me know. It’s just the constant reports of this person saying this and that person saying that and there being no hard evidence either way that’s bugging me. I don’t care until something actually HAPPENS. And even then I don’t care because it’s just the NCAA being hypocrites once again.

And, yeah, thanks for choking away the game Iowa. You can pound my Spartans by 30 points a few weeks ago but can’t put away a shaky Buckeye team. That would’ve put us in the driver seat for a Rose Bowl. Oh well…the Spartans have to win in Happy Valley this week and we’ve never won there so it’s not like it’s automatic anyway. Sweet comeback against Purdue though…we were making that offense look like all-stars on some of those drives. Win or lose, it’s been a sweet season for the Spartans from a team that’s shown a lot of heart despite getting behind in a lot of these games. Pretty awesome. If we’re frauds then I’ll take a 10-win fraud every year, thank you.

^Problem is while Cam Newton is making Millions of $$$ in the NFL years down the road, the poor Auburn Football Team will be on probation and sanctions…This assuming the allegations are true of course…

His dad seems really shady…

Just go ask those kids at USC right now what they think of Reggie Bush…

None of this matters, Bama’s gonna beat them this weekend anyway… :shh:

Well, this is of course another problem with the NCAA. It’s always lame probations like taking titles away and almost never anything done against both coaches, ADs and boosters that are almost always the root for these problems. I don’t blame kids who don’t have anything and aren’t even allowed to have a job for taking a few thousand bucks if someone offers it to them. There’s nothing worse than being at college and seeing everyone around you buying stuff and partying every week and you have to sit at home because you have no cash.

And why never any regulations against schools for not graduating their kids? No one cares about that. They only care about something that could disrupt a team winning lots of games. It’s pathetic. The NCAA is a money-grubbing corrupt piece-of-crap agency and yet they expect the students to be perfect angels.

I agree somewhat but if you could seriously make 200 thousand frickin dollars for your kid to go to a certain school, wouldn’t you try it? I think I might, especially if you’re from a poor family. That’s a lot of frickin money even for someone in middle class.

I still don’t think Reggie should have given back that Heisman…he made USC far more cash than he got back from boosters. And once again, why blame Reggie Bush when it’s USC’s boosters who should take the blame? They’re the ones who gave the damn money! Reggie just wanted a nicer house for his family. I don’t blame anyone for taking compensation for their talents.

Heh. Very possible. I still love me some Nick Saban from his time at Michigan State so I still pull for him even though he’s quite weasel-like. Plus this will throw the whole BCS poll stuff into chaos which is always fun every year. And I don’t buy this stuff about Nevada being a big opponent for Boise…they’re going to demolish Nevada like they do every year. Sadly, TCU will probably get screwed in this like they always do.

Wow, quite a turnaround by the Alabama team. Even worse was how close they came to just putting it away in the 1st half. There was the fumble by Ingram that rolled into the endzone for the touchback, then the dropped pass by Richardson for a sure TD and they settled on a field goal and then the fumble on the sack on the Auburn 5. A possible three more TDs wiped out there. Great work of Auburn to completely shut them down on offense in the 2nd half. Still, I question Bama punting from the Auburn 40 at the end…I know their QB went down and it was 4th and 10, but what good is a QB if you can’t expect him to throw a dang pass? They should have known Auburn would kill that clock and by the time they got the ball back, it was basically over. And give some credit for Auburn to go for it on 4th down twice and one of them on their own frickin 30 yard line. PLAY TO WIN. We had I think 4 4th down tries in that game alone…we’ll never see that from fraidy-cat coaches in the pros and I never know why.

And Boise State…holy crap, what a disaster and way to man-up by Nevada. It looked like a typical rout of Nevada like they have every year and then Boise did almost nothing in that second half. I question yet again where Boise had a 4th and 2 late in that game and then looked like they would go for it had the QB do a short punt. That’s not Boise football!!..what a strangely conservative move by Peterson. And sure enough it took Nevada maybe three plays to get back to where they would have gotten the ball had Boise gone for it and failed. And I also question having the kicker out there in OT after that horrible miss at the end of regulation…given it was SO quickly after his last miss, I would have wondered about where his brains were. Obviously the football Gods are cruel at cowardly punts. Great moment for Nevada and Chris Ault. On the bright side, Boise would have just been screwed out of the Fake Title game anyway.

And time to bust out King Leonidus for my Spartans against Penn State:

GO STATE!!!

Michigan State Spartans: Big Ten Chapions.

Never thought i’d live to see the day.

^Too bad MSU will not go to a BCS Bowl!!!

And Boise States kicker had to have been approached by the Mafia, you DON’T miss FG’s from that close THAT BAD, it was like he was trying to miss them!!!

That is not funny

Well, I wouldn’t say they beat their ass, but a win none-the-less. Actually pretty boring up until the 4th quarter.

Almost makes up for yet another mediocre season for the Irish.

7-5 and going bowling! (well, some 2nd tier bowl game, but whatever…)

I think its fitting for the Spartans…

Have fun at the “Insert Generic Company Name” Bowl!!!

GO BLUE!!!

Hell yeah. We’re the CHAMPS!!! It feels good. We haven’t won at Penn State since the 60’s and it was pretty cool to see us manhandle them for most of the game. Of course we had to make it interesting at the end, especially when we picked them off and then promptly fumbled it but, oh well…the way this season has gone, I guess we couldn’t have it any other way.

Whatever. I don’t really buy into this prestige that a “BCS Bowl” is any different than any other bowl game. The only people who care about the BCS is the school itself because they get more money for getting a BCS bowl game…but as a fan, I couldn’t care less.

The one thing I DID want was a Rose Bowl bid, though. The tiebreaker for a three-way tie is the ultra-retarded concept of using BCS rankings to determine who goes. I don’t get why a national poll should be used to determine the fate of one division. This is the exact same problem that Texas had a few years ago…they beat Oklahoma early in the season and then by the end of the year, they had the same record, yet Oklahoma got in ahead of them because they were ranked higher because they ran up the score on crap teams just like Wisconsin has done for the last month. It makes no sense and never has but, of course, it’s just to keep the big-time schools at the top and the small-timers at the bottom. In fact, when they did the vote among coaches to include BCS as a tiebreak in the Big Ten, it won 10 to 11. The one coach who didn’t vote for it…Michigan State’s Mark Dantonio. He knew this would happen.

Plus, if it went by the old system of tiebreakes, MSU would be in the Rose Bowl. We had the best strength of schedule amond OSU and Wisconsin and we have the “team with the biggest Rose Bowl drought” as another tiebreak. Frankly, I wouldn’t have even minded has Ohio State got in because MSU never played them, but we frickin beat Wisconsin and beat them pretty soundly…that’s the part that is the worst.

In the end, it’s always about WHEN you beat teams. What if things get reversed and MSU loses to Iowa in their fifth game and instead it’s not until Week 10 or 11 that we beat an undefeated Wisconsin team…would they have ended up the season ranked ahead of State? Of course not. As always, this is why I don’t worry about rankings much and I never worry about who ends up as the Fake National Champion. It’s a farce and it’s always a farce. Even when MSU was undefeated, I fully expected some sort of screwjob so this is no surprise. I don’t care. We’re the Big Ten Champs. We’ll still likely be in the Capital One Bowl on New Year’s against Alabama.

Spoken like a true bitter Wolverine who doesn’t know how to take losing and just came off a 37-7 ass-whupping by their so-called rival after losing to them for the 10th out of 11th time. And what are doing talking smack about bowl games?..you weren’t even IN one for the last few years. And you’re projected to be in the “Insert Generic Company Name - Insight Bowl” which is so bad that it’s on NFL Network so nobody even sees it. I guess it’s just as well since no one will see UofM embarrass themselves on national TV once again. (And I hate to tell you…basically every bowl is the “Insert Generic Company Name” Bowl…sign of the times). But that’s okay, UofM…we already own you in basketball and will for eternity and now we own you in football and we’re the Big Ten Champs…and, oh yeah, we won a National Title in hockey a couple years ago too if you care. Actually, I kind of hope you win the bowl game and maybe they’ll stupidly keep Rich Rod around…he’s my favorite UofM coach ever. I love watching him blame media and his own players whenever he loses…good times.

And here’s my favorite clip of your coach crying a year ago against Ohio State. Kind of like you now. Heh. Go State.

Yeah, I almost always cheer for USC in this game but it’s just impossible to cheer for that weasel Lane Kiffen. Nice work, Irish. I gotta agree though I was pretty livid that ABC gave me this game instead of the ultra-exciting Oklahoma/Oklahoma State game. Even worse, both Notre Dame and the ESPN game ended with about 7 minutes in the Okie game and they STILL didn’t cut to the end where about four TDs were scored in the final two minutes. Once again, thanks for blowing it again ESPN.

^Wow, you take College Football WAY too seriously dude…

I was making a friendly joke to my buddy Doug and you take it the wrong way …

I’ve been a Wolverine fan since 84’ and I take it with a grain of salt, it’s just a game when it all comes down to it, not my life…

:problem: And I thought you seemed like an alright guy…

:stuck_out_tongue:

Sorry bro…

Trust me, I have watched every (almost every) Michigan game since the early 90’s…I’ve been there through the Good Times (Fuck you Nebraska, we were the TRUE National Champs in 97-98’) and the Bad Times (See the last 5 years)…I know how bad UM is now and I did not support the hiring of Rich Rodriguez, he’s lucky the Gators did not get Shoelace Robinson or they would be 0-12 this year…Rich Rod is on his way out soon anyway…

I feel bad for the Spartans, they had a hell of a team this year and that Iowa game was a fluke…The Big Ten was pretty strong this year in my mind and it’s a shame the BCS wants these 2nd Tier Schools who play NOBODY during there Conference Schedule, get a free pass to play in Big Bowl games because the BCS feels sorry for them…They schedule 1 or 2 “Semi Tough” Non Conference Games and then get a Powder-Puff Conference Schedule to run through…

What would TCU’s or Bosie’s record be if they played MSU’s schedule???

Or even better, what would those 2 teams records be if they played Alabama or Auburn’s SEC schedule???
