Come Here to Relax

^Concur about this being a great thread.

And here’s one I just posted to OKP on fb. Seem to really be into Schmilsson lately…

And here’s another “without” song (this guy’s songbook is loaded with sad songs, stemming from father abandonment issues) from a somewhat older, portlier Nilsson. Actually think this was lip-synched, but hey, it’s still a great little tune.

^Yeah, I love old clips of dudes from the 70’s but it’s always a bummer when almost all of them are lip-synched. Sadly, it’s often the only footage of many of the old stars, especially from the early 60’s and such. Stupid record execs. Great Nilsson stuff…his voice sounds great on the high notes. I’m a sucker for a beautiful voice. Without You is a Badfinger song, yes? I always thought they sucked (and never got the “they sound like the Beatles” hype) but that’s a great song.

Probably been heard before but I love this one:

And say what you want about Sinead but this is a gorgeous song:

Nothing more relaxing than being ONE… And I am serious, sometimes some well constructed metal by oneself is as relaxing as a hot bath!

Enjoy! Just a great song and Vid!

^Relaxing? Uh…I GUESS so…except I’ve nearly driven off the road while head-banging to it. Perhaps Hero of the Day?

LOVE this one. You’ve all heard it before:

After a really beautiful ride into work on a clear, crisp Winter morning in central NJ, I walked into my office and before I even took my coat off, I switched on the portable CD player I brought into work. Didn’t care what was in the player, just wanted some ‘theme’ music to start the day, the week.

I knew within the first few recognizable notes of Cast Your Fate that I had put the Vince Guaraldi disk in there late Friday, but never got to hear it. The song was written/recorded by him in 1963, and although tagged as a ‘jazz’ piece, it showed up on all the am rock stations of the time, and people liked its easy feeling. But most people who remember it from back then, also remember tiring of it quickly, especially when everyone was just tuning in to the Beatles.

In any case, this song is all about relaxing.

Well it’s the Day The Music Died today so I’ll put this one out. There’s a version involving the Crickets but I LOVE how simple this version is. Just gorgeous.

Love the use of the xylophone. Why aren’t there more songs with xylophone? Only songs I can think of are this one, that Cascades song I posted above and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. I guess Springsteen has a few with it but they’re hard to hear over the other instruments.

Though that reminds me of this AWESOME version of Thunder Road from the Live 1975-1985 album. It’s basically just Bruce and a piano and has some nice xylophone in that one also. I like this version a lot more than the normal version…it just gives the lyrics more meaning with the toned-down version.

^ where is like… the whistling. geez!

On the Patriotic-but-maybe-not-so-relaxing note, I’ve gotta post this. THIS should be the national anthem. Kate Smith crushes it.

And if that shouldn’t be the national anthem, then this should be. Just gorgeous:

Also been meaning to post this for a while. Probably my favorite piece of composed material by my favorite composer. I’m no expert but this brings me close to tears.

^Finally got around to listening to this. Just beautiful…what the heck do they call that crazy contraption he’s playing? I’ve obviously heard it before…just don’t know the name. One of the nice joys is waltzing into an Irish bar and getting a live Irish band there. Doesn’t even matter who they are…they never disappoint.

Serenade me to sleep, Miss Debbie:

i’d never heard this song, its an otis redding tune which, we all know, one can’t get much more soulful than mr. redding. I’m certainly no connoisseur on soul or blues or whatev but i kinda seem to know it when i hear it… this has “it” all over it. Def one of those songs that become Mr. Garcia. Garcia did this and another track? for the moive “Smoke” which came out in 95’… so this was none to long before his death. Never heard of or watched Smoke either but apparently it’s a good flick if rotten tomatoes is to be believed. Nifty slide show to go along with it, well done. Anyhow this is vintage. I prob listened to it half a dozen times in a row lol.

this is so relaxing it’ll take the starch right outta the most viagra’d rager there can be. haha not that that’s what your going for :exclamation:

srsly beautiful song, beautiful vid.

Finally got caught up on the sweet tunes here. Love the Jerry run of course. King Crimson is always a bit weird to me but the flute at the end is sweet. Nick Drake, I’ve heard a little bit from him before and that song reminds me of a lot of his other work. Seems like he just puts out entire albums of relaxing stuff.

Always loved this Beach Boys tune…can just imagine chilling in my room before going to sleep with this on. And holy crap, those harmonies. You just don’t get bands that sing that tight anymore.

One of my favorite Beatles tunes…almost TOO short. Figured I’d use the footage from Help. Love Ringo on the tambourine. Good effort buddy!

One of the sweeter Moody Blues tunes. Just gorgeous.

tears for fears cover… never saw donnie darko, guess this cover was done for that. this version is a bit smoother than the original, cool vid, a bit emo but the song was written when emos weren’t even suckin’ on their moma’s teets.

AAAAA Fuck! Double post but this is just so fucking good! Only regret is I never saw them live…

A waking world of innocence
So grave those first born cries
When life begins with needles and pins
It ends with swords and knives

Oh dangerman, oh dangerman
Your blade fits like a glove
When forged in steel
Time cannot heal
That blood red bond of love

In times of trouble youre an open book
With the change in the way you look
And its sad loves not enough to make things better

Turn the tables, well burn the fables
Lies beneath the visions and daydreams
Fooled by now, we mystify the past
Like a dream, like it never happened

When life begins with needles and pins
It ends with swords and knives
God save those born to die

That part of the movie damn near brought a tear to my eye.

ICC, I love any of that Irish-type female singing stuff…I wish I had a better description of it but it’s great.

And Mad World…I remember they actually used that for the commercial for Gears of World 2 and it was pretty sweet…I got the whole song after seeing that…had no clue it was a Tears for Fears song. Swords of Knives is impressive…had no clue those dudes had that in them but I was never that into them.

I really dig this one. The guitar is awesome and Chris’ voice sounds excellent. Backup singers complete the package.

Ya’ll will laugh at this one but this one is REALLY soothing. Just get past the Madonna dirty talk throughout and just listen to the background music…I LOVE the backup singer who’s kind of just singing her own thing through the whole song…really subtle but really nice…I find myself singing along to it as it goes…near the end it’s a dude singing it but it just works. I can’t explain it. REEELAAAX.

Gotta add this one. Absolutely beautiful. Fiona’s got a wonderful voice. Maybe my favorite tune by her.

an old childhood friend just tickled my “relevant nostalgia” receptor with this gem that I haven’t heard in years. Twas a favorite of mine in like 8th grade and still dig it tonight.
