I love this…
Anyway, remember when I broke a door handle while trying to open my door? Well, you’ll love this.
Anyway, yesterday it was like 10 below with the windchill in Michigan. I go to my passenger-side door (the only door I can get in) and try it to go to work…it was a little stuck…but it opened! Hurray! Anyway, it was real icy so I was only able to barely scrape my windshield. I started driving to work and I couldn’t see a thing out of the small amount I had scraped off my windshield! So I turned into a side-street about a block away from home and pulled into the first driveway I could so I could quickly scrape the windshield more.
I do it and I scrape some more and try to get back in…and the door sticks!!! It opened no more than five minutes earlier yet now it was stuck for good. Even worse, I was BARELY tugging the handle and IT BROKE TOO!! So there I am, with my car parked diagonally across some random stranger’s driveway with BOTH door handles broken and no way to get in my car or move it. What a disaster.
Anyway, I had to call into work and called a tow truck and all that (which took forever since it was icy and I’m sure they were quite busy that morning) then I drove back in a van I borrowed to put a note on the car for the poor owners of the house who found a new car in their driveway (it wasn’t TOTALLY blocking the driveway…they could have gotten one of their cars out).
Anyway, this happened at 7:30am and I didn’t get a tow truck until 1:30 in the afternoon!! Amazingly, I’m not sure if the people in the house were home or if they even noticed…I never saw any lights on and the note I left wasn’t moved. Anyway, the tow guy jimmyed the door open in about two seconds (nice to know that it’s so easy to bust into my car) and I was able to drive it to an auto-shop for repairs (and I didn’t close my door once the whole time I was there). It’ll be about $500 to repair both handles.
Holy crap…it was stressful at the time but turned out to be not that big a deal. Gotta love this Michigan weather.
