Creamfields

I figured I should continue the trend started by our good friend Phishinsky, that is posting details of events that there aint a snowball’s chance in hell of anyone else attending.

I’m going to Creamfields!

(in the unlikely event that any of you uk-okp’s can make it gimme a holler)

Check it (acts i’m really looking forward to in bold):

Creamfields 2006
Cost/Time:

so, it’s a DJ festival??? is there camping? do they serve english rolls and jellys in the morning?

^that would be nice…i went 2 years ago and you’re pretty famished by 6am (although surprisingly not very hungry ;))

yeah, it’s a super dance fest. like rave style. but totally awesome. big outdoor stage, lots and lots o tents…there were mushroom stands last time i went but alas they are no longer legal :frowning: they’ll prolly still have NOs stands…as if that’s a consolation

no camping required as you get there late afternoon and dance all night long, get the train/bus home in the morning with a bunch of fellow laughing strung out dancers.

^ i like it, sounds like a good time to me. mushroom stands? i didn’t realize they were legal in the UK up til recently. hmmm…

NOs stands? NO2? nitrous? if so, lame, i can’t stand that stuff.

I would love to go to Creamfields. Musically right up my street! Hell, I wish I could have went to 10 DAYS OFF in Ghent Belgium as well. And The Big Chill. And Cropredy. And Global Gathering.

You guys have the best festivals in my opinion.

^yeah man, there’s plenty of them…you’d LOVE it over here. and Glastonbury is KING of the festivals. full stop.

^^and yes, boomers were legal over here (as long as they weren’t dried…which was a bit of a sketchy loophole, because as soon as you pick them they technically start to dry…but anyway, you could by them at stores) up until last summer, when all of a sudden they becaem illegal for some bullshit reason…

they’re still legal in Ireland though

What a great lineup! I am jealous.

Looks like something totally different then whats offered in the states. Pretty sweet!

Techno dancer all nighter, I am game…

Looks good, but my dollar’s been going towards Reading - now there’s a festival.

Apparently Killers, Springsteen and Kylie are headlining Glastobury next year.

Should be teh_tic.

^don’t you mean glastonbury 2007? …that one will be teh awesome

^yeah twas a silly mistake Jamphan. I’ve modified it.

damn!

well my mind was blown once again in the middle of a field smack dab in the middle of nowhere…

however, the day started with some madness of a not so enjoyable variety. we bought coach (bus) tickets to/from the thing, thinking that this would be the most efficient and safe manner to travel. the coach picked us up in my town, about a 5 minute walk from my house. good stuff. little did we know that this coach would drop us off at a service station about 8 miles from the actual venue, along with about FIFTY other coaches carrying similarly excited party-goers from around the nation. we entered a queue (ie line of people) thousands of heads long…it’s progress was not very promising. we soon noticed that there were about TWO double decker coach buses available that seemed to be shuttling people to the venue. soon the line started moving at a steady pace, which at first was a little more encouraging, but we soon realized the pace was far outreaching the amount of transport provided. once we rounded the bend we realized people were just fed up with standing in line and a large herd (of what seemed to be about 10k strong) had formed. this wouldn’t have been THAT bad if coaches were coming and going, but the TWO full coaches that seemed to be taking people to the fest hadn’t even left yet…not so good. ANYway we end up watching as those two buses leave and then two more (presumably the same two) trickle in some time after only to be blitzkrieged by the now impatient yet still massive herd of wannabee ravers. eventually we realize we need to stand in a better strategic position and literally fight our way into a MOVING bus through the BACK door…this was not pretty. we only managed to stay on the bus by begging to squeeze half an ass cheek onto already full benches. about an hour later we were dropped off at the festival site. lets just say we left my town at 2pm, it took 40 minutes to get to the service station, and it took another 4 hours to travel that last 8 miles…

ugh.

i’ll save the good bits for another post to follow…for now i’ll leave it that the ensuing good times made the above a distant memory until 6am when the same herd of people (minus the smart ones who sorted out another form of exit) were waiting in a ‘line’ (more of a vacant mass of swaying meat between two chain link fences) to catch a bus back to the same service station to get on the same coach that brought us there in the first place…after about an hour of shuffling up 2 feet every 10 minutes we were back on a shuttle, and after the final obstacle of locating the appropriate bus to take us back home (with no labels on the coaches or any direction as to what was going on) we were on our way to some much needed rest.

Hah…I also saw some great ‘nu rave’ music at Reading…you must check out Klaxons and Hot Chip…

OK, now the good stuff!

we started the day off right with some funky house by Radio1 DJ Annie Mac to get us in the mood to dance. And that she did. I was dancing to remixes of songs I’d usually find cringe-worthy on the radio (e.g. the new song by that ‘Milkshake’ song girl).

The Scratch Perverts kept the booties shakin shortly after we had a burger to make sure we don’t froget to eat anything all night.

This was soon followed by Mylo, who I’d been wanting to see for some time. Muthafuckas came unda presha!

We had to leave Mylo a little early to make sure we caught some of DJ Shadow. I was really looking forward to his set, and was thrilled to hear ‘The Box’ as we entered the tent. This guy is extremely talented and twists beats to the point where most would have no idea how to hold it together. I was a little disappointed that he kept bringing out guest vocalists…they were ok but seemed to detract from showcasing his skills.

Again, we had to leave a little early from Shadow so that we didn’t miss too much of Prodigy on the main stage. This was the only main stage act that we found time to go see, as the intensity of the smaller tents was pretty hard to pass up…that is unless it’s the Prodigy and they’re intense enough to fill the entire field with their madness. we got as close as we could considering we got there a little late and the boys did not disappoint. I heard all the classics I wanted to hear (ie Diesel Power, Outer Space, Smack my Bitch Up, Firestarter etc. etc.). Mind blowing intensity.

At this point my timeline of events becomes somewhat hazy…but we rushed over to catch some of Eric Morillo and he kept us goin after teh Prod. I then made us all go back across the field to catch Pendulum. WOW! they are the real deal…a bit heavy for the mrs…i could have stayed in there all night, but the pounding and swaying bass lines got a bit much for her, and understandably so.

We stumbled next door for 2 Many DJ’s who made things a little more funky once again, which was a nice way to boost our spirits and keep us moving. I believe mark EG came on next and although he was pretty intense and very climactic, the scene in there was getting a bit ugly as apparently this guy is THE underground dj for all the hard core druggies…i hate to make that presumption, but it was pretty obvious.

We wrapped up the evening with some Tiesto and a last hurrah with Eddie Halliwell.

All in all I haven’t danced so much, well, since i went 2 years ago. Bangin good time and i’d recommend it to anyone in the UK for the last summer bank holiday weekend…just don’t get the coach!

Sounds like a blast!

I haven’t heard good electronic music in a while.
I think I might go out this Labor Day weekend now.
Great review.
