Creativity: Color in music and art

Just wondering if you guys ever saw/heard music in colors. Take the key of Gm (G minor) for instance, and i picture a dark green.

If you play an instrument i’d enjoy hearing your take on this and if it affects how you play and where you take tunes that are a specific color. If not, i know everyone here knows a lot about music so please give your input as well.

I picture Am as a metallic dark blue…you could extend this out and find a substitution for Am…Fmaj7…which is a metallic dark red.

thoughts

This might as well be in Spanish…or German…or Italian; I don’t understand a damn word of this.

But alas, it is my civic duty to vote, and I did!

I’ve always kind of thought about this. Am is really more of a dark red for me, but I voted light red (which I usually associate with AM). Dm is dark blue, DM is a brighter blue. Gosh, I guess you have to be pretty high to talk about this stuff, 'cause I am fucked up.

There are definitely some keys that I associate with certain colors. For example, F for me is usually orange or yellow, C is dark red, D is a lighter red, and E is green. Am for me would be dark blue.

It’s interesting that I would never associate any particular song with the color of its key until I already know what key it’s in. For example, when I first heard Simple, I didn’t think of any particular color. When I tried to play the main riff on guitar, however, I found that the song is in the key of F and now I always associate an orange-yellow color with that song.

Am = burgundy or maroon.

there are certain songs that are purple. FEFY is one of them.
Simple is blue with white shafts of light.
Piper is RED.

good day.

i always thought of simple as red.

fuck you guys.

He is also a worm, what are ya trying to say?

:stuck_out_tongue:

I haven’t been that high in a long long time. A long time. or I could say Obiwan? Obiwan. Now thats a name I haven’t heard since oh before you were born.

However to try to contribute when I tried to play guitar for a year or so I never associated colors as much as feelings. D is all happy and Am is solemn… Gm is solemner… so that would be like… yellow! …blue… gray-blue… respectively. May the force be with you.

So a song like Black Peter uses A7 and Am and some F’s etc and its a very somber song that elicits darker tones in my subconscious psyche except for the break where it gets a little happy with some lighter tones like yellows and oranges. No lemons tho. oh wait their yellow, okay lemons then.

China Doll is somber too like Lifeboy but wouldn’t Tweezer be a great green alligator?! The meatier and nastier the version the meaner and vicious the gator?

Now I used to hand drum much more than guitar and drumming is a very earthy instrument. Typically the drum sits on the ground between your legs and you pound on it with finesse drawing energy from the earth or into it or whatever. Its very rich in its organic soil type feel and connects with the basic beat of the heart. So like… what color is that? Ain’t no rainbow. Brown tones I guess but I never associated colors with drumz. I associate movement. Wind. A pallet where colors can be placed and then put to canvas. Yesh rhythm is the pallet. Without the structure of rhythm the colors have no context in which to be drawn. I have a headache now.

i agree with Tweezer being green. Antelope is another green one to me i think.

i agree also with Nigel Tufnel that C#m is the saddest chord of them all.
