Well I had my fingers crossed for 5/8/06. But you can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you’ll get what you need. I definitly needed to rock out to some Dead tunes this weekend, and I’m happy that I got a chance to see these guys.
In the beginning I wasn’t exactly feeling it, mainly because I know that the Grateful Dead didn’t play The Weight much in the '70’s, and I wanted to hear a setlist from then. I was still enjoyin it though, my friends that I brought along, however, were pretty bored, so I kind of strayed away from them and found other dancing people. It makes me sad to see my friends not having fun.
Anyway, once they busted out Me and My Uncle, that’s when the party really began! Then that string of songs afterwards was a huge dance party. The setbreak was a little odd with my friends, I took along my friend’s coworker who likes to go to random shows, and my friend, Lauren who I met when I was travelling across Canada- I gave my extra free ticket to her since she loves them and her parents met a Dead show, however, she decided to leave at the setbreak, which broke my heart a little, is that a litttle rude to leave early when someone nicely gave you their extra free ticket?
But anyway, the second set was awesome and I even dug the Drums/Space, which i’m never very into. But then I thought back to the whole beats and frequencies thing. (see Bisco 11/24 review)
I ended up running into a friend I had met a year ago, but we didn’t recognize eachother until we introduced ourselves after rocking out during Aiko Aiko.
Such an amazing show though. I have never seen the Grateful Dead, but Dark Star Orchestra is as close as you’ll get to bein at a real Dead show, the jamming was tight and pretty authentic. Go see these guys when you get a chance!
