Disco Biscuits or Sound Tribe Sector 9

I don’t understand tDB at all. They almost come off as a joke band for some reason. I can’t take a band seriously who’s drummer plays only one beat (the “disco” beat, the one with the open hihat on the upbeat) over and over and over and over again with only minor variation. I get that people on a bunch of mahldawg want to dance to the same beat over and over again but to the sober ears, it just sounds meh. To me, their peaks only seem to be defined by the volume and amount of moving around they are doing on stage. The guitar player is pretty good, but everyone else in the band is mediocre city. And the vocals are worse than Phish, which is saying something.

STS9 I can sort of dig. Not much to say about them. They have great grooves.

But for me, Lotus beats out both of them.

Sure man. I’m taking longer than expected, though… trying to find a reliable file hosting site now that Megaupload requires registration. I’ll put you on the list, though.

And Adam, good call about Lotus. They put on a killer show and have managed to define their own sound in this so-called “jamtronica” genre. (I agree about Bisco too btw)

if I have my choice, neither!

I’ll take “Neither” for $400, Alex!

well i can now say i have seen both of these bands…at the same show nonetheless…i think my overall attitude towards them is ‘meh’ as many of you have said…let me start by saying i’m not really familiar with any Bisco, I was more familiar with Sound Tribe goin into the show and they were the real reason I got my ticket…I listened to some of The Wind At Four To Fly the day of the show which actually got me a little pumped to be seeing the Biscuits, but I can’t say they really delivered, early in the show I was actually enjoying the jams quite a bit, but after a while i did start to think this is all starting to get repetitive…

As for STS9, I think I’ve decided, yes this will sound weird, I enjoy blasting their music in the car and stuff more than I enjoyed the show itself…I don’t know if their sound is powerful enough for me in an outdoor amphitheater, I wish I had caught them at the Tabernacle cause I think I would’ve enjoyed it much more, also I was at the very back of the lawn, by choice kind of, not because of a sold out crowd or anything…it seems to be true you need to be  to enjoy it from beginning to end, which isn’t really cool with me…and something that i’ve told Jay is that I don’t understand how exactly they make some of the sounds they are making on stage which means i can’t necessarily fully appreciate the talent involved, so sometimes I would just think how is this really being made? nonetheless, I really enjoy Murph’s sound…so when he laid something good down i was all good…

I am the same way with pretty much all electronic music that I like. Really, that consists of two main artists: STS9 (2007 and older) and Emancipator. I would not go see either of them live, but it can make for really good driving music if I’m in the mood for it.

beams with pride

And yeah Levi, indoors is the way to go for Tribe.

But fwiw, I’ve never been anything more than stoned at a Tribe show and always enjoy them from beginning to end. Like i said, they’re definitely not for everyone, but kudos to you for giving them a shot.

That’s EVERY Disco Biscuits song.

Worst version of Shakedown ever? :wtf:

Yeah, someone posted another video of that… not a fan.

I’ve never been able to get into TDB but I love me some tribe. They are super talented and they are doing their own thing. Good grooves and songs. I’m going to see them in a few months.

But whoever mentioned lotus, i fully agree. One of my favorite jambands hands down. Seen them multiple times and they represent the nonexistant Pennsylvania jam scene. Always a great dance party. For those who haven’t heard them, find their all good 2010 set on archive. It was absolutly amazing.

I mean check out this song. They are pretty sweet you must admit. I can see how those who don’t like the electronic sounds wouldn’t like it but still. Yeah, but sometimes you need to be spun .

That Shakedown isn’t all that bad…I mean I’ve heard many worse Dead covers over the years…such as any time Warren Haynes covers a dead song, or Keller Williams for that matter.

^Haha… yeah, I hear ya about Keller… but still… this shouldn’t have even been called Shakedown Street. If Sector 9 had called it “Electronic Jam inspired by the Grateful Dead’s Shakedown Street and Isaac Hayes’s Shaft” I may have bought it. But to say this was a cover of Shakedown Street is a stretch, at the very least.

Not a bad band at all. Cut out the electronics and they are great and talented musicians.

haha wow, I dont log on here very much at all any more and I was SHOCKED to see this on the first page of this forum!

And yes, 4+ years later… I am still ALL about STS9 and really dont care to much about the Biscuits, although I dont mind listening to certain songs, I usually preffer the studio versions of those songs.
