Do NOOBs make you mad?!?!

there are people who love the scene and there are people who think they like the music because they are way into the scene. i just like people who are interested in the band, what theyve done, and the music. 420 in an hour and 5 min LOL AHAHAHHA!!! but really.

There were no better n00bs then the n00bs who n00bed it up when i was a n00b!

Take that n00b!

I get what you mean. I’ll wear a phish shirt and people will be like “I love them! farmhouse rocks”. Or, people want so badly to be a “hippie” (not like they exist anymore) that they want to get absorbed in the phish scene even though the only albums they have are billy breathes and farmhouse.

It’s annoying, I’ll admit it, that people say they’re such a fan but they don’t know the half of it, compared to how much time you spend thinking and listening to your favorite band. But, everyone’s entitled to their own music selection and whenever I see the phish posers I just think to myself about how much phish means to me and I know that I am a true fan.

I think phish, and the music they’ve created, is up to interpretation and whoever wants to listen to it and I don’t think we should judge that.

thats my two cents

And that was really poorly written.

Yesterday I watched the Sunny in Philadelphia where Dennis puts on the Phish shirt and has the “kind bud.”

Funny stuff.

I love that show.

He was being a pretend newb just to bang Sage’s chick. Well played.

^The best part in that episode is when Charlie comes flying down the mountain of garbage waving the sword around. Fucking classic.

I don’t really have a problem with noobs. If they want to listen to good music, more power to them. Whether they get it or not is not my problem, I only know that I get it. What I do have a problem with is the difficulty of getting tickets. I can’t wait for all of this to die down to the point where maybe I have a good solid couple minutes to try and order tickets.

If there has been one thing I’ve learned over my 45 Phish shows over 10yrs time it’s that every show is your first show, just when you think you know what’s going on with Phish BAM, they prove to you that you know nothing, which makes loving them even better because the Phish rabbit hole simply never ends. I love this place!!!

WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER AND WE LOVE TO TAKE A BATH!!! (NOOBS TOO).

^^my favorite Always Sunny episode is the one with Jack Bauer the cat…where Charlie pretends to be Serpico.

Everybody has to start somewhere, I have no problem with Noobs, just with tough guy frat kids who go to shows just to get fucked up. Of course that was 5 years ago, not sure how I’ll feel this time around

When I was younger (15 or so years ago), Noobs did have their uses. Especially when my budget was tight. Who’s going to help when you make a bad investment? NOOBS! Who brings their wallet on tour? Noobs. Who is innocently looking for guidance when they are spun and can’t drive their Father’s Rover back to the Marriot? Noobs. They are a lubricating oxygen to the whole scene. Chocolates! $25

Circle of life, anyone?

Christian Slater wears a Phish shirt in an episode of My Name is Earl.

What a gneub.

good stuff on here, fellas

in my opinion, the only true noOooOOOobs are the ones who get black-out drunk, eat more drugs than they can handle and/or talk loudly throughout the whole show, all while bumping into people uncontrollably. they’re clueless

otherwise, everyone’s gotta start somewhere. more power to’em for turning their mind onto good music and a great community

p.s. always sunny is a helluva show

The only reason that these types of noobs make me mad is that when people see me, an 18 year old at a show, they are going to be grouping me with them, I’ve encountered several characters over various sites(none here) who have already done so. So when I’m at my first show at (hopefully) Great Woods, I’m gonna have to be extra cautious to make sure I’m not crapped on for being a “noob.”
And I am in it for the music, my collection is small compared to most here on the boards(most is about 20 for 95’ and other shows sprinkled in from other years), but I think that to get as into the whole scene as I have, you need to love the music, I feel these types of “noobs” will lose interest eventually, if they really are in it for the drugs, and what not. I for one plan to go sober(I have never smoked) and just have two hours of sheer musical bliss. I’ve said it before, if I picked my music to seem cool to the “in crowds” around my school, phish would not be the band of choice. I just love the music, plain and simple, and there isn’t gonna be a damn poser that will detract from that experience.

Oh they are certainly playing longer than 2 hours.

Holy Shit! You’ve never smoked? That’s pretty cool actually!

Going to a show sober is a great experience. I always plan to go to at least one show sober per tour. To quote Mr. Miner, “Sometimes the sober shows are the trippiest.”

By the way, 2 hours? This proves that you’re not bullshitting about never seeing a live show. You’ll get AT LEAST 4 hours hours of musical bliss. Especially if you get a couple of long jams like a YEM (if you are lucky)

Also, its people like you that make the Phish live experience so fucking great! Here’s to your first live show!

I, for one, am not opposed to noobs. I mean, we were all noobs at one time or another. I mean, I “got” them back in ‘96. When I saw my first show, I was all about "Bouncin’", “Fee”, and “Wolfman’s”. Fast forward to today, and they are, in my opinion, the pinninacle of the live music experience. So this summer, I know that there are going to be kids there who are there to see “Bouncin”, or “Fee”, or “Wolfmans” and that’s all they know. And I’m alright with that. Basically, if I can hold an intellectual conversation about the band, and their music, and not have to listen to “Dude, I was so wasted at this one show that I totally puked on this asshole in front of me, and then I pissed on his leg”, then I’m all good. I think that you can usually tell if someone is there for the band or for the scene withing the first couple of sentences of the conversation. If they are there for the latter, then I just don’t see the need to engage with that person.
So yeah, noobs don’t bother me. We were all noobs at one point or another.

Oh, and I have seen 1,558,231,000 shows, so I am WAAAAAY more heady that all you noobacious gneubs on this board!

this about covers it i’d say.

“in my opinion, the only true noOooOOOobs are the ones who get black-out drunk, eat more drugs than they can handle and/or talk loudly throughout the whole show, all while bumping into people uncontrollably. they’re clueless”

This happened to me once. I think it was my 75th show.

I am officially a noob.
