I hate Bill Maher and especially that movie. Like I said, I am by no means religious, but he is such a disrespectful prick. Who the hell goes around and just insults people and laughs at what they believe in? What a self-righteous, pretentious thing to do. Like I said, I am not biased, because I am not religious myself, but I just find that whole thing to be so incredibly ignorant. If people believe a certain thing, that is their business, not Bill Maher’s. Whose mind does he think he’s changing?

I 100% believe in God. I know your learning a little bit Adam and I want to teach you a little more. The Christian God, The Hebrew God, and The Muslim God are all one in the same. They are the God of Abraham. This is the God I believe in so I can’t really vote in your poll because I belive in the Christain, Hebrew and Muslim God as they are the same God.
You find fundamental differences in Jesus. I believe in Jesus. Hebrews believe in Jesus, but don’t think he is the savior (son of God) rather he was a prophet. Muslims believe that Muhammad was a prophet and they follow his sayings and beliefs. Fundamentally we all worship the same God though. I believe that Jesus is the son of God that was sacrificed for our sins.
at this point in human history i think that it would be ridiculous to make any assessment on the matter one way or another. fee is right about all those religions. they are all basically the same story told in different ways.
I cannot and will not lose my religion message to the page break.

Ah it’s not blindly to me. I have faith. Too many things in my life have pointed this way. I’ve had spiritual awakenings. Hey I respect each everyone’s beliefs though. Might not agree with them, but I’m not going to preach to anyone.
wow, fee, I can’t believe that you blindly believe all that, based on the writings of ancient zealots who no one can fact-check.
to me, it’s pretty easy to take a broad look back on history and see how religion has been used as a tool to control humans…it’s true for all of these groups of people who think their group has found “it.” I’m very turned off by the whole group mentality of religion. Think for yourself.
^ Dude now see this is the kind of thing that just kinda pisses me off, and nothing against you Hank, you’re cool in my book, but seriously, if people believe it is usually a very deeply held belief, and telling them to “think for yourself” could come across as very insulting. Religion is a very spiritual thing for people, it has nothing to do with logic (which is the problem I have with religion personally). Trying to apply logic in an academic way to something so intangible and spiritual is not possible. I think religion helps a lot of people find guidance in life, which can be very difficult to do in a world like this one. I myself often feel like I don’t have a set course, like I am unguided.
Also, how does Christianity, in the context of the modern world, control anyone? Some religions, especially Islam, do control all facets of people’s lives, which is cool with me if that’s what they want to do, but Christianity (along with many other religions) leaves room in people’s lives for personal expression and fun along with their religious beliefs. I mean, look at Fee, he believes in Jesus, but he goes to Phish shows, which are clearly instruments of the devil ;).
Anyway, if this was TL;DR for a lot of people, whatever, but I have been thinking about this a lot lately, and I felt like posting something. Religion interests me because I have been exposed to it in many ways, and its effects on people can be profound, not just in bad ways, but also in extremely good ways. One of the best men I’ve ever known is a Christian minister. Anyways, just wanted to say my piece on religion.
I believe in God. I was raised in an Irish Catholic house hold, and went to Catholic school.
I went through a period of a few years where I stopped believing in god, 16-20. I was very skeptical about the idea of god, and was very vocally an atheist. I was too smart to believe. Looking back I was very narcissitic, not believing anything out there was greater than me. And God was fequently the subject of my jokes. I don’t know what made me start believing again, but i do.
also you’re a douche.
Also, I can see this thread becoming ugly. So how about we all try to avoid belittling other peoples beliefs. Frankly I don’t care if you believe the universe was created by the cum shot of a great cosmic Stay Puft Marshmallow man and we are all just spooge on a mermaid tits.
Agreed.
Good luck.
No…

One does not believe in the idea of a God. That being said, One does not denounce it either.
Not very concerned with beliefs. People have been fighting and killing each other over beliefs for thousands of years. And it divides us. (which is ironic because the center point of many religions are very similar)
It’s not wrong to have beliefs at all. If only we could all have our beliefs without conflict or division.
^It’s funny that you choose to say you don’t believe in the idea of a God. On one level I feel like I understand why you would use those words, like you are saying that people’s idea of God can not be real. But in another way, it is undeniable that the idea of God exists.
I said this earlier but I think a lot of spiritual discussion comes down to whether or not God is “real”. I think this is stupid debate because just on a conceptual level, God can not be accurately defined within the context of physical matter as we know it. So I see a lot of people freaking out about whether or not God is an actual guy that takes up space and has weight sitting on a cloud somewhere in another galaxy. Well, if that’s what you think God is or isn’t I think you’re missing the boat.
You make a thread become ugly when you call someone a douche. I saw this one getting ugly when this was first posted. Some people simply cannot have differing opinions w/o getting nasty.
My feelings: I think Jesus’ powers were a bit exagerated.

^ It was a poll option.
aaaahhhh
I consider myself agnostic, so I voted I don’t know… because I don’t. I mean, it’s clear that some sort of energy is keeping things moving along, but I don’t pretend to know what that energy is. I think books like the bible, koran, torah, helping phriendly book, etc… are fascinating tales, often with great lessons, written by very imaginative and respectable story-tellers. But, in the end, I do believe they are just stories. Personally, I don’t need the threat of hell to keep me from murdering or raping… I try to be a good person just because it makes me feel better than being a bad person. If that’s not good enough for the powers above (assuming any exist in the first place), so be it.
I do really hope we’re are all just spooge on a mermaid tits, though. That would be awesome.
