Does anyone here jog?

Awesome, thanks for the tips!

Is the Sorbathane a preventive measure or to counter-act the effects of SS once you happen to get them?

Welp, I did it. 6.2 miles on the treadmill in 52:10. Then pulled a Forrest Gump and kept on running until I hit 8.0 miles at 67:00.

Now I realize that a treadmill is certainly not equivalent to running outside in an actual 10K. But at least this gives me the confidence that I can sustain a decent pace for the 10K.

I’m going to start jogging tomorrow. I have gotten waaaaay outta shape. I plan on running like 2 miles tomorrow and then working up from there.

we had a new member recently named angrymobofjoggers

i think it might be the best username on the site.

except of course for “hank”

Esther rules.

Bought some new Asics yesterday. Can’t wait to try 'em out tomorrow!

I also finally am getting an armband that will hold my iPod…running with it outside in my hand is too cumbersome. Can’t get in the flow. And setting it in front of me at the Y is disaster waiting to happen. I’ll catch the headphone wire, watch it fall and then watch it shoot back behind me.

I only run if I’m being chased.

actually thats not entirely true I just like saying it. I suppose I might run if I was chasing something or someone myself.

besides that I’ll stick to the bike

Asics are great. I have gel Nimbus. Love 'em.

I got an iPod shuffle that clips on to anywhere. You may want to consider one of those, Neil.

Wow, I think I just saw one for like $50…1GB or 2GB.
That’d be perfect!

We’ll see how the armband works out.

How’s your training for the half marathon going?

I’ve finally hit the 40-45/week mark. Not LSD’s, per se, but a run in the morning and then a longer one in the evening after work. I’m in the same boat; it took me 2-3 months to get comfortable and find a nice groove to get to the point I’m at now.

going out for a 5K in 94 degree heat and 40 mph winds. w00t!!!

aforementioned jog turned into a 5K walk.

Dust bowl, much?

22 days until my 10K. I watched coverage of the Indy Mini last weekend. Good stuff. There was a freakin’ TIE! Last weekend was also my second “long run,” which ended up being 11.1. Since I was able to do it, I’m convinced I could probably do a mini-marathon. I think Indy has one in the fall!

I know Nike has a shoe that syncs up with the iPod to record data. Did I see where they came out with a bracelet-type thing that does the same thing? Bueller? I measure out routes with my car and use a stopwatch, but this sounds like it would be more accurate.

Good luck with the run, what kind of time are you aiming for on the 10k? My friend did one last week wearing a duff man costume and did no preparation and came in on 54 minutes which I thought was really good considering.
My jogging has suffered lately, I’ve been completely tied up with my last week at University and writing papers but I handed the last one in today so am going to start up again next week

The Nike bracelet thing was something I posted on the other page. http://www.collider.com/entertainment/news/article.asp/aid/7788/tcid/1 I actually saw a review of that one and a few other ones on the market too. If you have the cash and don’t mind wearing all sorts of instruments, there were some that had gps positioning and heart monitors and music playing according to your heart beat etc etc, pretty crazy stuff.

Yeah, I went to the Nike site and saw the SportBand. Cool stuff.

Shooting for a sub-49:00 on the 10K. No Duff Man costume, though.

Nike+ will only help you improve as a runner.
The SportBand is nice if you don’t have a Nano.
It pretty much does all the same stuff as the Nano sensor (doesn’t give audible feedback throughout your run, obviously).
I highly recommend getting one of the two Nike+ deals.

My half marathon went really well this past Sunday.
I’m training for another in September and have to insane 10K’s this Summer.
Super hilly, yo.
a

I don’t have a Nano, and don’t really plan on getting one, so maybe I’ll look into the SportBand.

Thanks!

Welp, tomorrow is my 10K.

My first “road race” since 5th grade and my first “timed/organized” race since 6th grade.

I’m stoked! I’ll continue training over the summer then sign up for the Indy 1/2 Marathon this fall.
