does anyone here listen to stephen malkmus

stephen malkmus is a brilliant songwriter and an amazing guitarist not trey amazing but amazing like hes brilliant compositionally i highly reccomend him to all

some of you might know him from the band PAVEMENT

I saw him open for someone a few years ago. My mind is a little fuzzy, but I think it was Radiohead. Never really searched anything out of his afterward, he didn’t ‘grab’ me and make me listen. He was sort of their, and kind of reminded me of early Weezer (which I like, or used to). Any suggestions on starting points timbermule?

And then again, I may be thinking of someone completely different

I didn’t see him, but he opened for Radiohead a couple of years ago at Alpine.

I like him, i have all of his CDs. i think Face The truth is great, but i like the self-titled one a lot more. i think he’s a great songwriter.

i’d start off with the self-titled one, then move onto Face the Truth (newest one)

I like Pavement. I never heard the solo albums. I’m sure they are quality. He also has played with the Silver Jews, who have made some nice records.

I saw Stephen open for Radiohead at Blossom in Cleveland. I liked him before that, though.

Pavement, Silver Jews, and Stephen’s solo stuff are all some of the best music of the past 15 years, no joke. He isn’t a main member of the Silver Jews even if he did help start it, but his work on the ‘American Water’ album makes it even more of an utter classic. In short, he is brilliant and I have a man-crush on him.

What’s “Radiohead”?

That’s who radiohead is.

That was the show I was at/was talking about in this thread. That was a great Radiohead show, probably my favorite that I have seen.

Anyways, thread steal over.

Stephen used to live in the same Brownstone apartment-building as I did back in 1996, in Portland Oregon. I once played a pick-up basketball game with him at La Luna without even realizing who he was! I have every Pavement album, too. When I finally realized it was him, I approached him the mailroom and said hello. Really affable guy.

I think he’s a songwriting genius. Love his tunes!

Bah! You lucky ducky. Next you’re going to tell me you shared a drink with Robert Pollard, right?? Some guys have all the luck.

im happy im not the only one who thinks this man is a fucking genius

^^you’re definately not alone…
