Donovan McNabb TRADED To Redskins

I don’t think whether McNabb didn’t “want” to go to the Raiders entered into it. The fact is that the Raiders and the Bills were offering us a 2nd round pick for this year’s draft and we ended up getting a 2nd round this year plus a 3rd or 4th next year. The price was better, otherwise they wouldn’t have sent him to a rival.

I’m kind of torn on this. On the one hand, I don’t think McNabb ever would have won us the Super Bowl. On the other hand, I always had the feeling that if we let him go, he would easily lead another team to a championship. And I really don’t like having to play against him twice a year.

I love McNabb, he’s done a lot for us in the last 11 years, but it was time. I just hope he doesn’t rape us twice this year and make it look like a stupid move.

So, wait a minute… he’s a black and Irish? And he plays basketball?

This is fascinating…

I think he nails Philly in the first game… Not sure about the Raiders deal, I think Philly also wanted to be respectful to McNabb and not send him to that cesspool of a team in Oakland… Now watch Washington sign TO or trade for B.Marshall!

Okay…NOW it’s okay for Philly fans to boo him.

^ haha…as a die hard Eagles Fan…it was always OK for us to Boo him.

I am a fan of #5, but I am happy to see him go. Not so happy that it was to the Redskins, but it is what it is. I do think Big Red took McNabb’s desire to play for a somewhat quality squad into consideration when making this deal (I can’t believe I just referred to the Skins as a 'somewhat quality squad").

I welcome the Kolb era, and hope he is what the Eagles Brass thinks he is.

Birds go 8-8 next year, get their asses whopped by Dono and the Skins at Philly.

But after that, we will be right back there in contention, as long as Kolb is what they think he is (cues Dennis Green Clip).

Kolb, McLain, Jackson, McCoy, Celek, & Avant. Nice young players who will grow and develop together. The future is bright Birds fans, the future is bright.

I would not be so sure Kolb is your man…

Pesky isn’t it that they are keeping Mike Vick around… One bad game and I can see it now…

Which actually might not be so bad…

I agree that Kolb is not a tested entity in the NFL. I mean he had two good games (first rookie to throw for over 250 yds in first two starts), but that si just two games and an entire season is another thing.

However, one thing that people can not shit on Big Red for is his ability to evaluate talent. He really hasn’t had any, or many, busts as far as draft picks.

Kolb was their 1st pick 4 years ago. he has had the time to watch and learn. And I promise you, if the Eagles Brass didn’t think he could win in this league, he’d be gone, and McNabb would have gotten an extension.

But, you are right…he may not be the answer. but, i am ok with finding out this year. And will follow that statement up with, I hope they are able to wait til mid-season to extend his contact just to make sure he at least shows glimers of what they hope he will be.

^I can probably name about a dozen of shitty andy reid top picks off of the top of my head; but i digress…

I figured McNabb was gonna get traded, but to a division opponent? That’s 2 more wins that you’re gonna have to fight that much harder for. I think the main problems with the skins the last few seasons has been lack of good, steady coaching and qb play. Now they’ve got both sured up. Watch them make it to the Superbowl in less than 3 years while the Eagles will still be letting their fans down. As an Eags fan, I know that it doesn’t matter who is at qb because andy reid will never run the damn ball enough. That lack of balance, and gaping needs on the defense that need to be addressed via the draft, will shoot them in the ass year after year. Especially now that the division just got that much better with Shanahan and d-mac in Washington.

Fuck-a you Eagle. Fuck-a you Reid. :imp: Let’s go Phillies!!!

McNabb told the Eagles he would retire before being traded to the Raiders. He has his money, if he is going to play ball it’s going to be on his terms. I get trading him, but why trade him to a team you face 2x a year.?

I personally couldn’t believe the stupidity of this trade. The Eagles are expecting Kolb to be the next Aaron Rodgers, but I just don’t see it. Rodgers was much more acclaimed at the time of the Favre debacle than Kolb is now. Rodgers could’ve been the No. 1 overall pick but fell to late first round. Kolb is a 2nd round guy, and the Eagles are handing the team to him over Donovan?

Also, from what I hear, Andy Reid was one of the few people in the Eagle’s organization pulling for Donovan to stay but the Eagle’s front office wanted McNabb gone.

fuck Favre. he’s a complete choke artist.

T-JaCK for prez…

:problem:

:silent: :silent: :wtf:

::files under things to throw back in Hank’s face once Farve comes through for him::

^

Ug, we had a whole discussion on this in the NFL thread. To sum up, I say it wasn’t OK. Thus I say that now it IS okay since he’s on another team.

You had BETTER hope he’s good. We’ve still only seen bits and pieces of Kolb and he’s never had it where defenses spend 100% of their time gameplanning for him. I haven’t been blown away by what I’ve seen from him so far. I gotta feeling that this will be one of those “don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone.” I mean, seriously, what is that Donovan DIDN’T do for the Eagles? He did absolutely everything for that team except win the Super Bowl (and a lot of guys haven’t won the Super Bowl)…what else was he supposed to do?

Not to mention, I’m really curious to see how Donovan does on a team that won’t require him to throw 50 times per game. Shanahan’s going to make sure he has a run-game to support Donovan, something Andy Reid never cared about giving him. It’s no secret that when the defense KNOWS you’re going to pass, it becomes harder on the QB. Reid was so obsessed with passing that McNabb rarely had a solid run-game backing him up. If anything, I’ll probably be cheering for Donovan to smoke the Eagles this year, if only to spite the ungrateful fans.

Sadly, with Shanahan and McNabb together, the Redskins future is brighter. And yeah, the trade was retarded.

And yes…Vick getting into the starting lineup IS bad. That dude is done. He was never a good passer and his speed is quite average right now. I don’t even know why he’s still on their roster.

And don’t worry…even if Favre don’t choke, Childress will botch it somehow.

We shall see, I am not a phan of Chilly, let that be known, but I am a fan of Favre and would take him for one year over 50% or more of the current NFL QB’s as starters on NFL rosters…

Well, he was supposed to make it to 4 of the 5 Super Bowls he had a chance to get to. meaning, he was one game away from the big dance.
He should have lost, and did, against the The greatest show on turf. He should have won, and didn’t against the Panthers. he shoudl have won, and didn’t, against the Bucs. He shoudl have won, and did, against the Falcons. (only to show ZERO enthusiasm for a 2 minute drill). He shoudl have won, and didn;t, against the Cardnials.

For the record. I am nto an ungrateful Eagles fan. I supported McNabb all the way, even through last year. But, looking at it from my seat, I’d prefer to trade him and get the 37th pick, and a 3/4 rounder next year, rather than keep him another year and get nothing when he rolls in FA.
I thank him for giving me somethign to root for past week 17 so many years. But I have read the Reid/McNabb book so many times, i am ready for the change.

I really am only commenting to say that i agree with you. Reid’s obsession with passing has driven this city effeing nuts for a decade. Esp when the QB you are asking to pass so much has accuracy issues. Any, if someone wants to argure that point, go back and watch his games. Hell, just go watch his playoffs games. Hell, just go look at the last series on the NFC Championship game against AZ. Historically, McNabb has come up short when the game was in his hands. Low passes, behind the receiver passes, over the head of a reciever.

I don’t know what Kolb is going to be. I am looking forward to finding out. I know this year will be tough, but 2011 should tell us what we need to know.

And for the Vikings fans…Favre is coming back. He and Chilly already know that, otherwise, Brad would have been all over bringing McNabb to MN. But, the lack of interest from #5’s former Offesive Coord tells me that Favre told brad he is coming back as sooon as the team breaks training camp.

  • 11 draft picks in a good draft.

Kolb will be fine. Mark my words all you’d like. Kolb will do just fine. He’s a badass, whether you want to believe it or not.

^Bad ass? Now you might be overstating it a little, no? I think he might be ok, but that team was being built over the past 2 years around McNabb…

And YES^^ Favre is coming back, this we know.

Really? And this had NOTHING to do with that fact that he had virtually no run-support in all of those games and a head coaching staff who insists that this west-coast crap will eventually win it all for them? After losing game after game due to the offense knowing that you’re going to pass on pratically every down, would you think they MAYBE change things?..Nope. No way. Donovan looked bad in those games because at that point in the playoffs, he was playing a good defense and when a good defense knows exactly what you’re going to do, it’s easy to make your OB look bad. And there’s no way he “should have won” against any of those teams. Once you get that far, either team can win.

Yes you are. I would kill to have the success that the Eagles have had in the last decade. Appreciate what you have. I understand the reasons why they traded him now but that doesn’t mean that everything he did in the past was one long choke job. The dude was not a West-coast QB in a flawed west-coast system with a coach whose clock management at the end of games has killed them multiple times and he took it as far as it could go.

I’m NOT a fan of Favre but I agree with this. Who else are they going to get?
